- Bamboo Forest -

User Image

One of the few seemingly untouched places left on the island was the Bamboo Forest. Not as big as it once was due to the destruction of the island due to the Black Spring events, it is still located towards the north east of the village. The stalks are strong and good for building. They also prove as good training ground where students can practice running at full speed through the stalks without bumping into them, or using their chakra to climb to the top of the stalks. The lush scenery is calming and seems to help students meditate and reflect on what they have learned.

Shuga was used to cubs being playful and nipping at her heels. The Tategami clan leader was such a beef cake that not even her Achilles tendon was vulnerable! She let Kore jump and play for awhile until they reached the edge of the forest. Then she squatted down and put one of her scruffy hands atop Kore's softy furry head. That soft fur would eventually thicken and become thick and gruffy, but he was only a kit now so the fur was still baby soft. "Sh," Shuga said quickly and audible for the little lion to hear. She would get him accustomed to motions along with sounds as baby, but as he grew, he would have to become aware of what his partner would be wanting him to do; be stealthy, act normal, be aggressive, etc. The Lions of the Tategami clan did not need commands like most dogs. They were proud beasts that would not be pets to their owners, but equal companions. Shuga would teach this to the human that would be fighting alongside and training with Kore.

Walking down in a low crouch, Shuga stayed low and scanned the bamboo grounds. They were hunting now. It was the time to stay silent and watch for their prey to come into view. Once their eyes would spot a herd or a singled out animal, Shuga would give Kore the singal to attack...

Kore followed the large lady the best he could while using his small teeth to n** at her heels. It was hard to not get his teeth caught on he skin but he got them loose. As they entered the forest the large lady instantly became more cautious and quiet. She turned around and "Shh" at him. He felt the gust of air and scrunched his neck back and shut his eyes. Stopping he looked around. He didn't see anything so continued to play. It was hard for him to not get distracted. He was having fun and the prey probably couldn't hear him anyway. Still gnawing on the Busty womans heels he found it much more enjoyable then being quiet at the moment. His eyes remained focused and so did his ears, but at them moment he seemed to be highly distracted. It was almost as if he was a new born child playing with their favorite toy. He was in his own little world.

Kore rolled away from the large womans feet and began to lay on the ground. He was only quite for a few seconds when he noticed a bug. It landed perfectly upon his nose. It was green with a horn growing from its face. It seemed to glow almost with the setting sun. Wanting to catch the bug Kore began to skim on the right time to pounce, but remembered that this target wasn't like the birds before. It was much smaller and closer. Watching it spread its wings and pull them back in Kore began to raise a front paw. he was going to strike perfectly in time to crush the beetle under his paw. It would be his second kill and the smallest. It was also going to be the easiest.

Kore's paw was now above the bug. It was dangling just before the kill. Not playing with the prey for lack of respect for his kill, but more as if he was admiring his prey before destroying it. Ending its life before the time and tossing it aside like a worthless scrap only to feed another species lower on the food chain then himself. Of course not knowing this information or even caring in his own selfish naive self. He was just a young lion who happen to come across a bug he would rather destroy then knock away. Slamming his paw done he roared a pathetic roar as he felt the pain squish into his nose. Not feeling any liquid he lifted his paw to see the bug land on a near by blade of grass. Now it seemed that tag was the name of the game and the young lion was it.

Ignoring completely what the large women had said he was still focused on the silhouette of the green beetle. Much like his first hunt his target had gotten away from him the first time. The birds were cautious but waiting he learned he could strike again. Taking the same approaches he tucked his legs under his body and began to wait. When he saw the battle tuck its wings back into his back he pounced not giving a second warning but the disturbance in the air. The beetle however was tuned in with the air around it and took off again leaving Kore with nothing more then a mouthful of grass. Kore was young and knew nothing of senses. One day maybe he would learn that he was much more in tune with his surroundings then most creatures. Today he was just a cub who found a bug.

The young lion was discouraged as he began to scratch the surface of his tongue on his front teeth. The taste of grass and dirt were not as pleasing as the blood and meet of a bird. The beetle was faster then him but smaller then him. Kore could not grasp the concept of why the beetle was so quick. He was bigger when made him stronger. The simple nature of the bug eluded him. He was nothing more then a simple cub. Looking around it seemed the beetle had flown away to live for another day. Sitting down for a second to ponder his meeting with the bug he swished his tail slowly back and forth. Looking he turned towards the large woman maybe she was doing something more fun. Maybe he could learn something like he did the first time from her. He was still young and needed to learn.

Kore slowly walked to the large lady slinking his shoulders with every step. His head hung low skimming the grass. One thing that did not shift where his golden eyes. They were focused heavily on the woman. It was easily seen that the lion was switching personalities from cub to lion quicker then anything. He was stilling personalities and mixing them. Yet to fully intertwine them like he should. He was learning slowly but surly. Baki's playful attitude had left. He was back to being Kore. Circling around the large womans feet his tail wrapping around her legs he stopped at her right side and laid down. He would wait like he did the first time and listen for his command to attack. Whatever it was they were taking down he would enjoy the thrill of the hunt just as much as the kill. His golden eyes seemed more sinister with the dark ring that surrounded them staring out into the forest.

Shuga stared at Kore with disdain until he finally slunk his shoulder and hung his head low. The blades of grass contrasted highly with his darkened fur. It had taken him longer than she had expected for him to quiet down like that. It was good that he was finally in predator mode. The quieter they remained the quicker their prey would come out. Shuga didn't like the idea of eating bugs that the kit would smash under his paws... What she wanted was meat! And Kore would want the same. Shuga didn't say anything or move for quite some time as she stared out into the stalks of bamboo. She stayed low to the ground near a bush as she waited for something to show itself. Then, suddenly, there it was! A pair of two pheasants darting through the stalks of bamboo.

Raising her alert state up a bit, she waited for Kore to pick up on her hightened stated before moving forward just a little to get a good look at the strange birds that were rather quick with their large busted bodies. In a way, they were similar to Shuga: All breast. Shuga moved quietly as she stalked the prey, staying low and looking back with her golden eyes to check on Kore to see if he was advancing just as quietly.

((Damn dice mad ))

Kore was laying next to the large when he saw the birds enter his line of sight. They were bigger then his prey before but that just meant a bigger reward. Looking up at the woman he knew she was going in for the kill. It was going to have to be quiet the way she took her first steps. They were like her normal strides which were filled with power and strides. She walked with a more cautious step, not of fear but awareness of what was around her. She was one with the ground and every step showed it.

As she moved Kore soon followed staying very low to the ground hsi soft baby fur rubbing the tips of the grass. His paws spreading as they hit the ground, but suddenly a snap was heard, and the too birds ran for their lives. Kore's paw had snapped a small branch in half. Standing up he sat down cocking his head to the side. He was ashamed he had let them get away. If his mother was her or even Baki they would have caught them no problem. It was going to hard living in such large paw prints.

Shuga let out a little grunt as she turned to Kore. Her golden eyes met those of Kore's cocked head. "Let's go lie in wait again," Shuga grumbled, knowing that the lion wouldn't be able to keep up pace with such a fast moving prey. Lions were fast, but as kits they were clumsy. Those pheasants were a fast running bird since they couldn't really fly. Going back to the bush that they had been hiding in before, Shuga took hide and let her tension fall low. Animals could sometimes sense the rise of tension in the air when they came close to an area of danger. Shuga had to remain as relaxed as possible. Kore would have to do the same. "Sh," Shuga shushed again quietly as she waited for the little lion to come back to the hiding spot and repeat the first steps they had taken...

Repeat Hide and then Spy check.

Kore felt the rise in tension as the large lady began to walk back to where they were before. He couldn't move from the grassy spot. He was to ashamed that he had messed up his first strike again. He was starting to realize that sometimes you were only given one shot. So far the two hunts he had gone on his first strike was always a failure. He started to feel as if he was nothing more then a lucky cub. Laying down he began to whine. It was not the ideal thing to do but he did not feel like much of a lion at the moment. He didn't know what he was doing wrong but at that moment in time he just needed time to think.

Kore flashed back to his short time on the island and realized something very important. Baki was his leader now and he seemed to go with the flow he did not look at everything as pass or fail. he just enjoyed playing the game. while Kore had never seen Baki in full action he could tell from the way he held himself he did not do everything perfect either. Rising from his spot he strolled over towards Shuga was. While he did not stop whining he was moving closer to her. he still felt like she would be upset with him for scaring off the prey she had so patiently waited for. Circling he wasn't sure weather or not she was ready to start all over again.

Kore figured eighted himself between the large womans legs wrapping his tail around her with each pace. He was beginning to calm down and he could feel the tension that had risen earlier had faded away. With that gone his little mind could concentrate again. Once again lying down beside her he began to focus this time walking out his path to make sure he would not repeat what happened before. Pushing his head lower into the grass his eyes began to widen scanning every possible route and every possible scenario ran through his mind. He was becoming more in tuned not only with his current abilities but the land he ran on as well. Waiting he noticed that the former prey had come back. Licking his black lips he began shimming onto his paws still crouched low for a perfect take off.

Without a word from Shuga, Kore was already inching his way forward. Not knowing it he was following on of the many paths he had laid out in his mind. He was moving around fallen branches and avoiding breathing to heavily. he stayed low to the ground and shifted his weight when needed. If the large women wasn't following Kore would most likely get caught up in the moment and attack without another command. As he got closer his eyes began to narrow and his nostrils were filled with the smell of the prey. He was inching closer and closer the prey unknowing of the closing gap between them and the unknowing hunter. Why he was hunting them he did not care he just knew he was going to enjoy taking them done.
