I'm in the process of writing out an essay and the question is how the myth of Hercules and Cacus as is portrayed by Livy's The Rise of Rome book 1-5, Virgil’s Aeneid and Ovid Fasti in an indo European myth. So far I can prove that it is a foundation Myth. I was wondering if I am missing something else so far I have an outline but it feels as if I am lacking an idea or aspect which will lead to an essay that is lacking supportive evidence of indo European ties.

So I was wondering if anyone else has noted similarities of this myth in other myths that may make it indo European
.

I might have to read the books, and I'm only in Latin I, but if you send me a copy of the outline, I may be able to help.

>.< I cannot find the paper outline at the moment.
but I think i have figured it out. The thing was we could only use the resources that we have in class. so we have to rely on our text books and notes. so teh Hercules and cacus myth appeared in three different books. so now we need to compare and contrast. So for that we cannot just states the similarities and differences of the stories. So i decided to also use my comparative mythology book and use the outline of indo-european myths to show taht this story / myth fits in with and indo European foundation myth. But i think i found the last piece that iw as looking for. In virgils telling of it Hercules tears open the mountain with a rock or boulder. This can be seen as a rape motif as he penetrates the earth which is femine with the rock. This is significant because rape occurs at almost ever major turning point in early roman myth to achieve good for the land.
