has anybody seen the movie ghost dog? there's a scene in it where they're trying to describe who the 'ghost dog' character is, and they use the N-word repeatedly. i found that scene to be really funny, but the white friends i was watching it with didn't. they got uncomfortable and didn't want to see the rest of the movie. i turned it off, but was kinda disappointed cos i wanted to watch the rest of it.
has anyone else been in a situation like that?
then i remembered watching 'goodfellas' and how they used the N-word several times in that movie. no one asked if i wanted to turn it off, i just got questioning looks as to see if i was ok with hearing the word. people are funny i guess...

I've seen both movies
I watched ghost dog by myself numerous times and have encouraged my white friends to watch it as well, I think it's a very good movie, but anywho
I remember the scene your talking about, and it doesn't really bother me, in the movies "most" of the time when they're depicting some "Mob" type Italians they use alot of racial slurs, not just towards black people but towards almost every other race.
But yes I have been in situations when a movie has used the N word alot while im in a predominately white crowd, It wasn't to awkward I think all of my close friends know not to use it around me, but it's silly to think they omit it from certain things like rap lyrics and direct movie quotes..etc.

it's not that i thought my friends would use the word after seeing the movie. i thought it was weird that they asked me to stop the movie all together. it's like they didn't want to give the rest of the movie a chance cos of one word, which is dumb cos it's such a great film. like they were being overly cautious cos of the word. instead of stopping the movie cos they were uncomfortable, they could've asked if i was uncomfortable, you know. it kinda makes me want to stop their activity the next time an offensive word comes up...
