From within a tree a beak opened wide in a yawn, and a wing appeared, stretching from within and popped out of sight. Soon after a head appeared, red eyes blinking out the sleep, and the whole body walked out onto a limb. Orion had heard some noise nearby that had woken him from his nap. He heard it again. Seemed to be some kind of metal sound of some sort, not really loud but it had caught his keen Sentinel hearing and he wanted to know what it was.

Tune was still asleep on a branch, and he didn't want to wake her. She'll be safe, hopefully her patterns will signify a companion to anybody hungry. He thought to himself, quietly launching himself from the branch and taking flight.

It wasn't a long one either, the sounds were coming from nearby. A neighbor perhaps? He had moved into this territory more recently, the tree he moved from, his parents home, was a little ways further from his own territory. He didn't know many in this area as they had kept to themselves most of the time.

Orion landed softly upon a nearby branch, and heard the sound again. "Hello? I hear you but, I don't see you!"

A grey chirop opened one beady eye and blinked it twice before dropping from his branch and disappearing into a large hollow tree. Only the pointed, brown markings on its wings marked it as a Companion, but Companion it was, Cassiel by name. The winged mammal dropped into the depths of Thorn's tree. The thing was a miraculous find, really, a large oak tree with a very deep hollow, perhaps burned out by lightening or fire. Whatever did it did it well, and Thorn had a solid platform deep within the oak to work on. It kept him dry, warm, and protected, as well as provided great storage for his various equipment and resources. The only problem was that the long, hollow body of the tree made the sounds of the metal being beaten echo horribly. Currently, Thorn was hammering out a thin sheet of silver to be cut into strips to make the ever-popular spiral covert bands. Rika, his Mus, was perched on a ledge, twitching her whiskers until she was needed. Upon Cassiel's descent, she chittered eagerly. "Thorn, visitors!" "Summat in th' branches!" the Chirops piped, and Thorn immediately kicked his tools to the side. Although he enjoyed being out on his own, he missed Sentinel companionship greatly. It wasn't the same not having Liam and Hazel around, and he was more than happy to investigate the guest, even if it was only a customer. He swiftly took off, Rika clinging to his back, and climbed up the massive column of air inside his home. He popped out the hole at the top, swooping around and landing neatly on the branch opposite the visitor. He eyed the male Ghost inquisitively and bobbed his head in greeting. "Greetings, friend! Thorn's the name, metalwork's my business. What brings you out here? Need a new covert band, or perhaps some talon-rings?"

Orion tilted his head as he heard more noises emitting from the large tree nearby. He gave a small shudder, hoping he didn't startle whoever was in there, causing perhaps an accident. It would be his fault for wandering off onto another Sentinel's territory, and if he had caused a big upset he could get in trouble. Yet he didn't seem to think that was the case, he was over imagining things.

Quietly he waited there, until he saw another Sentinel, deep woods from his colorings, emerge swiftly from the tree, Orion's eartufts flattening from the startle.
They perked back up as soon as he landed and he gave a small head bob, returning the gesture of greeting.
Ah! A metalworker! Makes sense now.
"Hello there neighbor, name's Orion." he said with a grin. The name Thorn sounded familiar, he might have heard it in passing once, something that tended to happen.

"Sorry if I'm intruding, I heard you working...." he paused, considering the merchandise. "Oh I wasn't originally intending to buy but, perhaps if you have something that sparks my interest?"
He knew how it felt to have somebody interested in your goods, it was a pleasant feeling and he intended to share that.

Thorn beamed. It wasn't often that he got visitors to his workshop, though he imagined that it was partially to the newness of the place. "Certainly! Lots for the looking!" He was eager to show off his newly-honed abilities. The walls were decorated with sample wares hanging from twigs or laying on rough-hewn shelves gouged into the side of the tree. The familiar shapes of covert bands and tiaras were the most obvious in the darkness of the tree, thanks to their ease of recognition. "Coverts and crowns. I'm waiting on the stones, though. I'm not much of one for them, myself, and I'm always afraid I'll lose one of my Companions by making them dive. So I don't have them do it!" He chuckled, aware of how silly he sounded. After all, Companions really weren't that important. But he'd picked up on a respect for and friendship with the littler creatures. And he really did think Rika and Cassiel were irreplaceable. As he showed off his creations, he talked. "One of the problems with metal is its lack of true utility. I've been hoping to change that a bit. These," he said, indicating a row of tiny metal bands with a delicate sweep of his wing, "are something new. I've been working on them recently. They're metal bands that go around the paw of your Companion. They're all fit individually, and snap on nicely. I've been meaning to make them for those who feel that their Companion is irreplaceable; that way, if it goes missing, it's truly obviously marked, and if it's eaten, you'll know who did it. I'm not sure how popular they'll be, or if they'll ever catch on, but they're easy enough to make out of scraps, and they make fine spacers for other things."
