Phoenix Wright Ref: {Linkie}

RP for Phoenix Wright and Vash the Stampede. Spikey-haired Kitsu FTW!!

-----------------------

Phoenix Wright, Defense Attorney, and spikey haired Kitsusagi, was in a positively low mood and bored out of his mind. Currently, he was in the Kitsusagi Realm HQ, and standing against the backrest of one of the warm soft lounges in the main room. He pressed his snout to the window pane, idly staring out the window, fogging it up slightly as he breathed onto it.

"Well, this sucks..." He said aloud to nobody in particular, or perhaps to himself. Outside he saw nothing but white, white, more white, and the occaisonal fleck of green. The winter had been a particularly long one and he would be glad to finally see it go. While the weather outside didn't do anything to lighten his mood, it certainly wasn't the reason he was down in the first place. Just why was he in such a low mood? There was a couple of very good reasons he could think of, but right now, he wasn't even sure if he was ready to admit them to himself. If anybody was to ask, he was in a down mood, and that was that.

With a heavy sigh, the spikey haired lawyer Kitsusagi moved off the window, sitting down on the lounge properly. He began to hum to himself, as if debating something. Within the next few minutes, he was off the lounge, and in the kitchen area, pawing through the supplies.

"Canned peaches - yuck. Potato chips... hmm. Sometimes good, but not today. What else is there..." He said aloud to himself, and he began to curiously twitch his nose in the same manner as a rabbit, sniffing everything very carefully. "Tomato paste, barbaque sauce, no..." He shut the cupboards and began looking through others. When the sharp smell of cleaning supplies under the sink hit his senses, he quickly banged those cupboard doors shut again. Where was it...

"Ah, here we are." He said happily as he finally found what he was looking for - a bottle of sake, hidden amongst a stash of old newspapers and other supplies. There were other bottles of liquor as well, but all he was interested in today was the sake. He held the neck in his teeth and dragged it back out with him into the main resting room of the HQ, kicking the cupboard door closed with his hinds as he went. Once seated on the lounge again, he wedged the bottom half of the bottle in the cushions and then began to pry open the lid. Which... was quite hard without thumbs.

"Damn it." He sighed. This just wasn't going well.

Had Phoenix been paying attention he would have noticed the slash of red that bounded through the snow at an alarming pace. There was no sound, just a flash of red, streak of blonde and flash of red again as the figured bounded through the snow. At one point, it even disappeared completely into a snowbank for a short moment only to burst out with a faint cry again.

Snow. That's what this was. Frozen little water droplets all bent on killing the plant. Vash was convinced of it. It was fun, yes, but only for the first oh... five minutes before he started to feel the chill in his toes and nose. He'd been out and about, visiting Dante to discuss Men in Red things and when he'd returned, the relatively mangeable layer of snow had somehow multiplied! It had been with great alarm that Vash had started running - the sooner he was out of the snow the sooner he could thaw his poor poor paws.

Thus, a few minutes after the HQ had come into view, Vash the Stampede very litterally stampeded through the door and pressed himself against the nearest warm thing like a man starving for water. How he missed his home in this weather! Desert and no water he knew how to handle but snow and cold and prolonged dark? It was hard!

When he'd finally warmed up enough that he figured he could move without breaking, Vash started forward with only two things on his mind: warmth and food. Specifically that great big useless fireplace and a few trays of those yummy donuts he could find in the kitchen. Shaking off some of the snow, he headed there.

Phoenix raised his head, blue eyes focussing on the newcomer with curiousity and interest as he came in through the door with suddeness. He watched his next activities with the same air of curiousity, then hopped down off the lounge to follow him into the kitchen.

"Hey there," He began, grinning. "Good luck finding food in here. There's not a lot of interesting things. Trust me, I already looked." He nodded towards one of the cupboards he had gone through earlier. "Unless canned peaches takes your fancy."

He grinned. "I'm Phoenix, by the way. Phoenix Wright - Defense Attorney. But, ah...." He trailed off, going silent, a frown meeting his features. He shook it off and grinned at Vash once again. "Who might you be? And what are you looking for, specifically? I might be able to help you out."

Vash started when Phoenix spoke to him, bumping his head before he could completely pull it out of the cabinet he'd zeroed in on. Damp, his hair kinda drooped from the moisture as he looked over at the lawyer. "Gotta know where to look~" He grinned, pulling out two trays of miniature donuts he'd hidden in the back of the cabinet that help cleaning supplies. "There's always something there. Besides, if you turn your nose up at it, who know when you'll get your next meal?" He spoke with an air of experience, having learned this lesson well over the years.

Vash paused, tilting his head to the side, "What's a Defense Attorney? Vash!" He nudged the cabinet door closed before answering the question, "I was looking for these. It's really cold out there! I don't know how anyone can live in this freezing nitemare! My poor toes." He frowned as he looked down at his paws.

"Hrm... Got anything to drink? And do you know to make that hole in the wall, the fireplace, work?" He'd never used it before, only marveled at it's uselessness. Now, however, he understood it's purpose and was all to eager to make use of it.

"Hmm..." Phoenix began, humming at Vash's statement about food. "I guess you're right. But there's a lot of food around here, so you can afford to be a bit fussy. Especially if you find something you really don't like. And I really don't like peaches, so go for it."

"Ah... you don't know what a Defense Attorney is?" Phoenix frowned at that. "It's um... well." His ears lowered slightly as he pondered how to explain. "I'm a lawyer. Or, at least I was once. There's two sides to every story, right? Well with the legal system, there's a defense, and a prosecution. I represent the defense side. A Defense Attorney is somebody who stands up for somebody being accused of a crime they didn't commit - they help find evidence to prove a person's innocence. I'm basically somebody who stands up for those who can't stand up for themselves. But..." He sighed, pausing, looking unhappy. "There's no legal system here. A guy like me isn't really needed any more. And to be honest with you...” He sat on his hinds, tails still as he spoke his next sentence. "... I'm not even sure I believe in it any more."

"Ah, donuts." He grinned again, tails wagging. "You have good taste. Those go pretty good with coffee. So do danishes and croissants. Somebody I know would rather drink tea with them, though." His laugh continued, though this time it was softened, and his ears pinned back slightly. He was glad for the change of topic, however. When Vash asked if he had anything to drink, his ears rose high on his head. "Oh, yeah, of course. I have some drinking saké, it's usually pretty stiff stuff to drink. But it's good. I was having trouble opening the bottle, though. If you can help me pry open the lid, you can have some with me if you like. Getting completely inebriated sounds like a pretty good idea right about now." He began to chuckle softly, grinning. "Oh, follow me. You don't know how the fireplace works? That one is pretty easy. At least I can be useful there."

The spikey haired Kitsusagi walked back out into the main room, and began to sniff around the cupboards next to the fireplace. Inside, he found several nice pieces of dry wood, ready for burning. "Good!" He said happily, and dragged them out to set down into the fireplace. After sniffing around for some matches, he struck a couple before managing to get an uneven fire going on the underside of one of the logs. He stepped back to admire his handiwork, grinning.

"Once this gets going properly, it will be good. Trust me. I just hope the flue isn't blocked. Otherwise it's going to get smokey in here pretty damn quick."

"Now," He wagged his tails, turning back to the lounge, retrieving his bottle of saké from earlier. "How about you help me get the cap off this?"

Vash listened to what Phoenix had to say and shook his head, intrigued by the other's choice of profession. Though he frowned when the other seemed to deflate, "Hey... You're a Man of Law then, right? There's always people to help. You can't give up." Vash smiled broadly as he followed Phoenix, nodding when asked to help with the bottle of sake, "If you defend innocence, there's got to be some way for you assist people. It would have been nice to have someone like you around when I got thrown in jail..." He trailed off, watching the lawyer work. Oh! It was just building a fire? He knew how to do that.

"Oh! Sure." Vash was an old pro at this by now. He and Wolfwood drank together on a regular basis and had learned how to open up the various bottles with efficiency. Taking the bottle from Phoenix, he flopped onto his stomach and wedged the bottle between paws. Then he clamped onto the cap with his teeth and twisted a little, working it loose some before letting go, repositioning, and turning again. Soon enough, it came off, "There you are~" Vash looked up, eyes bright and cheerful.

"You shouldn't lose belief in what you work for. If you do, you won't be able to accomplish that end." He nodded sagely, tone one of someone who spoke form experience, "Why not shape a system where your skills are needed? Defending those who can't defend themselves is a noble pursuit. I'll help!" Cheerfully he tilted his head to the side as he sniffed the sake. Oi! "S'good stuff! Mind if I try some?"

Phoenix watched with curiosity and happiness as Vash managed to pry the lid off the bottle. "You opened it," He grinned suddenly once the cap was off. "Yeah, of course you can have some. Check the label, you're right - it is pretty good stuff. I'd say you just earned yourself at least three shots out of that thing."

After that, the spikey haired lawyer bounded back into the kitchen, sniffing around for some cups, or anything useful. He soon found some small wide-rimmed glasses, pleased with his find as he carried them back out into the main room. "Here you go!" He said happily as he set both glasses down on the floor. "Just don't drink it all, huh? There's plenty more where it came from if you feel inclined to drink a lot."

"Hmm..." He began to hum as he thought. "A Man of Law, huh? Yeah, I guess I am, in every sense of the word. I have an old friend here who prosecutes the guilty. So there's two sides to the coin and a probable means for a fair justice system.

But..." He paused, his brows furrowing. "You're saying I should shape an entire justice system here? Heh... This place doesn't really have one. I don't know how I would go about starting such a monumental task, either. This place is so big - what can I do? I'm just one guy." He picked up the bottle between two paws and then began pouring the clear strong-smelling liquor into the glasses, his voice becoming quiet. "Besides, I... I'm not even sure if I can do it any more. Or... even if I want to. Nobody needs me here. There's no laws, which means nobody has need to request my help. Folks around these parts seem happier to govern themselves." His wings slowly slumped with his shoulders as he turned his attention towards the floor. "Everything I've ever worked towards, everything I've ever fought for - it has no meaning any more. Everything I've done has amounted to nothing."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:39 pm

Vash tipped his head graciously then poured the drink out with caution, making sure none of the precious liquid was spilled, "Isn't that all the more reason to instill some sense of government? Where I come from, someone like you would be a very valued person. It only amounts to nothing if you let it. If you give in." Vash slid the glass over to Phoenix, "Have you looked around? Tried? It's peaceful here, yes, but I don't know how long that will last - Dante and I have formed a bounty hunting group. Our services have already been called on. I'm a gunman... 'The Humanoid Typhoon'," He laughed ruefully at that, "Your abilities and knowledge could be used there, I think. I don't kill. Won't."

He lapped at his own cup, watching the other. He seemed really depressed...

"Believe me, I've thought about it," He said as he picked up his glass, sniffing the contents for a moment before tilting his head back, slamming down the liquid. It was strong and biting on his tongue, and it made his tail fur momentarily bristle. But it was good. "It's a monumental task to undertake if you think about it. And I imagine some of the folk here would meet it with hostility - not everyone would want to be governed by law. And let's face it, if you're a thief or a murderer, would you want it? It seems peaceful enough here, sure, but you're right - it probably won't be for too much longer. I don't want to start chaos, either."

He sighed, leaning his back to the lounge behind him. "I'm not giving in, but I'm not sure if it's going to be safe. I've been in more than enough trouble to last a lifetime. My only girlfriend tried to poison me once, too. I just..." He shrugged. "I fear becoming the target of somebody angry, because I'm doing something they don't like." He began to mumble. "I know he would probably approve of it, but I don't really see him any more." His ears pinned back at this statement and he was quiet and thoughtful.

Not for long, though. Soon, he turned his attention back to the other, grinning slightly. "You're a gun-man? That sounds rather useful. I can't fire a gun to save my life. I wouldn't really want to pick one up either - I've seen enough of what they can do to make me decide against them." He nodded at Vash. "But... you said you won't kill people, huh? What's the point of a gun, other than to threaten and shoot somebody?"
PostPosted: Thu Mar 27, 2008 11:36 pm

He remained quiet as the other spoke of murderers. He was was one... he'd killed an entire city... An intense aura of anguish enfolded him for a moment before he forced the rising tide of sorrow and guilt away. He couldn't give in, there were things to do still. Then he could face the piper as it were.

"You'll let that fear stop you from doing something you know is right?" He asked, knowing all too well what it was like to be at odds with someone important to you. And heaven above knows how much Vash fears the harming of innocents to get at him but it only served to further motivate him. "To defend. That's the only use they have - the only way they have any meaning is when they negate another gun. Otherwise they're useless. You can't use a gun to teach people Love and Peace, it just doesn't work."

Vash sighed, "If I could, I'd be rid of it. But there's something I need to do before I can. He's still out there, somewhere." He wasn't even sure if Knives had come here too but at the very least, he had to find out. His twin likely wouldn't rest where ever he went which meant Vash would have to oppose him and stop him from destroying everything in his vengeful anger. Another sigh that gave way to a bright smile as he returned his gaze to Phoenix after drinking the shot as well.

Phoenix felt a pang of regret as he watched Vash's expression change to one of anguish, and immediately began to wonder what he had said wrong. He had determined that he liked this guy, and he didn't want to make him feel bad, and especially not after just meeting him so soon. It didn't seem to last long however, and he sighed in relief. "Sorry about that," He mumbled quietly. "I didn't mean any harm."

"Hmm..." He hummed thoughtfully, nodding. After Vash had downed the contents of his shot glass, Phoenix picked up the bottle of saké, offering more. "I know it's right. To defend the helpless and to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, that is." He nodded. "But... well, do you think it's possible? It certainly seems kind of possible to do here, I guess... I just don't know how to go about it. There's nothing stopping anyone from doing anything they want to - to anyone. There's no judge, no jail, no bench, no witness stand, no law. I'd be just one Defense Attorney against..." He flicked a paw at the air. "Well, whatever is. Anarchy?" He chuckled momentarily. "Hmm. Perhaps that's the best thing you can call it."

"Him?" He blinked, sounding confused as he turned his attention back to the taller male. "You have an enemy here? That'd be a really good reason to carry a gun around..."

"Have you been here long?" Phoenix seemed curious, filling his own glass with more saké. "I have, I guess. Everything here feels like a jumble of chaos and uncertainty." He pinned his ears back on his head, flattening them against his skull. "Some things seem normal, others are just weird. And, well..." He paused, seeming quite hesitant now. "I miss my friends. And what I used to have. I worked towards a lot before. I helped people, I helped somebody in particular. But..." He didn't finish his sentence and downed the next shot of saké, flinching slightly at it's harsh bitterness. "...damn, this stuff is strong."
PostPosted: Fri Mar 28, 2008 9:32 am

"Yeah. It's possible." Vash blinked, tilting his head to side, "You have to start from scratch, everywhere does at some point." Tossing back the glass as well, he smiled, "It only takes one."

He shook his head, "Don't worry about it. I don't even know if he's here..."

Vash thought that over a moment, unsure. "Since before the, ah, snows came. The weather here is so different." He nodded at Phoenix's comment, "Like having utterly useless wings. I miss those I knew too..." He sniffed, tears coming to the edge of his eyes as he slung a paw around Phoenix's shoulders, "But you know what? It's not so bad. I found Wolfwood again - thought he was dead. And there's so much water it's crazy. AND! I don't have to pay for food!" Not that he really ever money for food anyways.

"It's good though. Warms you up." He nodded happily.

Phoenix lowered his ears, blue eyes turning towards the floor, unsure of what his new friend was saying. Sure, in theory, it sounded well enough. But in practise, it would probably be hard to implement. Much harder than one alone.

"I'd need help..." He said quietly. "But... I'd like to do it. If it's possible."

He jumped slightly as the other placed a paw around him, his eyes widening momentarily. Phoenix really hadn't expected such a thing to happen at all, and it startled him. "I know what it's like," He grinned slightly. "To arrive and know nobody. Fortunately I found an old friend I knew before, too." He grinned further. "And yeah, not paying for food is good. I barely made enough money to buy ramen on bad days."

He sighed. "But this... legal thing. It's just one problem among many. It sounds good in theory, but," He lowered his head again. "It also sounds very easy to fix, compared to some of the other problems I'm facing right now..."
PostPosted: Fri Apr 11, 2008 6:58 pm

Vash smiled and bumped the other's shoulder, "I could help you to start. Could also who else I can grab support from. Just need to keeping trying." Ears fell slightly as Phoenix indicated a larger set of problems then finding some way to be of use.

"Hey... what's wrong?" He tilted his head to the side in a look genuine concern, "Maybe I can help with that too." Absently, he poured the lawyer another shot before he settled back down, sitting across from Phoenix.

Phoenix picked up his shot glass when it was filled again, happy to have it. He cupped the bottom in both paws carefully, not wanting to spill any. He gave the other a weak grin as he bumped his shoulder, also happy to have his companionship. This guy was really easy to talk to. And he was glad that he could share a drink with him. He just wished that it could have been during happier times.

"I appreciate your offer, but I really don't know if you can help me," He began. "I don't know if anybody can. You seem like a nice guy, right? I'm sure you've encountered love problems of your own. I seem to be facing some right now, but..."

He pinned his ears back. "Well, the other party doesn't know. At all. And there's probably nothing I can do about it. I'm... afraid to mention it. Because if I do, I'm probably going to lose that person's friendship. Do you know what I mean?"

"Thanks," He said, downing the next shot. His face was beginning to become mildly flushed now, and his head began to swim with giddiness. The alcohol was working. "I bet you could probably drink me under the table." He began to muse. "Well, at least you know where the good stuff is kept now, should we ever do this again."
