"It's never any fair...Lucinda has all those silly stallions to hang out with, Tanzer hangs out with that stupid basket, and the stupid basket is a basket! No one ever wants to hang out with me...just because I'm green...and different then them. So I'm smaller what difference does that make"
Leap had been complaining as he walked his way through a clearing, it wasn't the first time since he had been found had he been miserable when he was alone with the others. He was a smaller horse...with green markings, he looked like a frog. At least thats what he had overheard one day. It wouldn't have bothered him so much if it wasn't for the fact that he was small. And no one in his herd seemed to care or want to hang out with him. He hadn't found anyone that was the same size as him, and was doubtful that he was going to find company on this lovely day as well.

"Hmmmm... that will not do at all." Ostara surveyed her handiwork with dissatisfaction. She had been attempting to trample the mess of wildflowers down into something a bit more organized but she was starting to think it a hopeless endeavor. They were too tangled. When she stomped down one unsightly weed one of her favorite yellow blossoms went down with it. Further experimentation hadn't yielded any better results and now she was starting to think she just ought to quit entirely.
"There has got to be a better way of spending my time," she sighed around a mouthful of her formerly precious flowers. She had only recently started to range into this area, hoping to find somewhere new to settle down and maybe have some adventures. So far she had trampled some flowers and almost fallen into a river. It wasn't her idea of excitement.
Her ears pricked up as she heard the sound of hoof beats coming towards her. Maybe the day could perk up a bit. "Hello! Who are you, then?" she called out before she could even see who approached.

Hearing a female voice call out he looked about not seeing anyone he called out in response
"Hello? Who's that?"
Coming around the bend he saw another horse, one his size oh perhaps this day would be better after all. Slowing down he walked out in to the clearing and bowed as best he could since he was so full of energy,
"I'm Leap..."

Ostara cocked her head slightly at the bow. They did have strange customs in these parts. She wouldn't fault the male showing her respect even if it was a little over the top, though. She looked over him keenly before responding, taking note of his unruly hair and interesting markings. He was one of her own, too. She hadn't met any other usdia in this new area yet... not that she had met anyone else.
"Well I'm Ostara," she pronounced after her thoughts had concluded. "Do you live here? If so..." She blew a lingering flower petal off her nose. "I'm afraid I ate your flowers and made a mess of the rest of them."

He smiled, she was pretty, and she had a pretty name, and she seemed to be nice. Shifting from foot to foot he finally responded,
"It's nice to meet you Ostara. And...well I kind of live around here."
He laughed slightly at the flowers,
"Oh I'm sure the flowers were happy to have had some fun, they don't really get to see much of anything out here and now they've met you...however, mangled you might have left them."
He watched for her reaction not wanting to offend her.

"Do you think that's really what flowers find fun?" she asked, a look of amused consideration on her face. "Really now. If someone did to me what I was doing to those flowers, I wouldn't find it fun at all."
She chattered on happily, seemingly unconcerned with her appearance to the stranger. "If some giant came up to me... which I suppose they could do considering how small we are... and stomped me flat before taking a big bite out of me, I'd be pretty mad."
As a slightly more serious afterthought she added, "I really do suppose it could happen. Just meet a hungry kalona one day and we're just a pile of bones the next day." She smiled brightly again and plucked another flower neatly out of the grass. "I don't really think that flowers have much of an opinion about anything, though, so I think I'll continue eating them."

Leap laughed at her reasoning,
"Well I guess it couldn't be very fun...I suppose those bigger ones could very easily eat us...that wouldn't be fun at all...but I'm sure these flowers don't mind. They really do taste very good."
She seemed nice enough let alone pretty enough. He was hoping that he wouldn't make her think he was weird too, he already had enough of that and it was nice to finally be out and able to talk with someone that was on the same level as him.

Wasn't he a pleasant sort. Ostara had met many that would have tired of her chattering by now. It was nice to find someone a little more hardy for once. It was nice to find anyone, actually. She had been in such a state of boredom that she had taken to arranging flowers, after all. It was just in time that this small stallion arrived by.
"If they minded being eaten they'd find ways to fight back... by being poisonous or otherwise unappetizing," she replied pragmatically. "Some plants do that and we don't eat them." She hung on this thought for a moment before eying Leap with renewed inspection. "Is Leap a nickname? A good bout of leaping can be very impressive, especially for someone our size."

Shaking his head,
"No Leap is my name...however it is fun to frolic and leap about."
Looking over at the patch of mangled flower he chuckled once again,
"Perhaps I could help you in your quest to flatten the greenery around here."
Winking slightly,
"I can after jump fairly well."

Ostara couldn't help but be amused by her new companion. She smiled and looked at his legs speculatively, as if sizing them up for jumping ability. "I'd accept your kind offer to flatten plants but I was only doing that because of massive boredom, you see. Now that I have company I no longer feel the need to haphazardly destroy natural beauty."
She looked back at the flowers in consideration. "They are fairly mangled, though. I'd say that eating the rest would be fair game, since they are in such a state."

Laughing slightly,
"Oh I see, you just don't want me to show you that I can jump. Well I understand"
He was actually glad she decided not to frolic since he was so out of practice int he first place. Looking at the mangled state the flowers were in he nodded slowly,
"I suppose eating them would be doing them a favor. What do you think?"

"I think that sounds like a very good course of action." Ostara happily moved back to the destroyed flower patch and nipped off one at the stem. She chewed contentedly, stem, leaves, and petals eventually disappearing into her mouth. This way, no one could say that she wasted flowers. Eating them wasn't a waste at all!
"So..." she started between gulps. "Wait, no, nevermind. Start eating first and then we can get to conversation." She smiled, pleased with herself. There was no use in rushing things.

Leap watched her smiling softly as he leaned down to eat some of the flowers. They were actually quiet good. Not like the flowers he had the other day, maybe smashing them was a good way to make them taste a lot better. Hearing her speak he looked up.
"Nevermind? Oh I see the flowers are that delicious that you can't talk"
He joked with her.

Behind her, Ostara's tail swept from side to side with amusement. As if to confirm Leap's statement, she took another mouthful of flowers and munched them down before replying. Those flowers really were quite tasty. These ones were not only beautiful but had good nectar too. Ripe for the eating!
"Well, talking is important but so are activities like this." With a hoof she propped up a trampled bloom so that she would have an easier time reaching it. "Eating is very sociable too. Almost as sociable as talking. Some people make great friendships merely by eating with one another... or so I've heard."

"I agree merely eating these flowers here in the company of one such as yourself has completely made my day. I do admit I was bored until I stumbled upon you"
Smiling as he leaned down to get more flowers, not really watching the flowers more watching her he didn't notice the weeds he picked up instead. Making a face the minute he ate the weeds he grimaced that wasn't an attractive look for sure, but then again the weeds were hard and woody and very much NOT as appealing as the flowers he was just munching on.
