While waiting for his new guardian to return with some food, Amadi decided to explore the area around where he'd met his new friend. It was a delightful experience, finally having somebody to talk to besides the wind, the stars, the moon, and occasionally the trees and water at an oasis. For one thing, he'd almost always get an answer back, whether it was a funny comment or some sort of correction to whatever he'd said. It certainly was more pleasant, he figured, to here another voice aside from his own.
So he hopped, skipped, and ran here and there, poking at funny looking things and waiting, sometimes, for it to make some sort of move. At one point, he'd run into a hairy-looking thing, that looked a bit like a bug to his little red orbs. So with a curious smile, Amadi approached it and crouched low so what it was sat right in front of his nose.
"Whooooaaa..." he said in awe, swatting wonderously at whatever it was. "I wonder if it'll move on its own..." he said. And with a small poke, he waited, eyes focused on it, and it alone. Again, whatever it was.

She had been napping. It was always nice to just lay in the shade of the rocks. She still got to enjoy the warmth the sun provided...but not its full intensity. It made her sleepy...so, she'd dozed off. She hadn't really meant to, but a lot of things happened that Ekundayo didn't mean. Seemed part of being a cub. She vaguely registered something messing with the tuft of her tail, but paid it no mind...until whatever it was didn't go away.
She woke with a muffled yawn, slowly moving to turn around and peek around the rocks at whatever had decided her tail was a toy. Well...now that she thought about it, it did make a good toy. So did her grandmother's, and her brother's, and sisters'...
She was met with something bright yellow and black. Ekundayo blinked. It looked kinda like a lion. Kinda. She tilted her head to the side and blinked sleepily.
"Hullo?"

His eyes widened when he heard it speak, and then he smiled and crouched playfully at it, an ecstatic look on his face. What luck! Something else he could talk to and play with! The young cub laughed aloud and swatted at the thing, paying no mind to everything else besides this funny talking tuft of hair. "Hi! I'm Amadi," he answered back, sounding very much like the cub that he was. "What're you supposed to be?"
When no reply came (he only waited for a second, mind you), he started to lose the smile and feeling of excitement. Was it just his imagination? Was he that lonely without his big friend? Amadi took a seat and bore his eyes into the tuft, wondering if he'd broken it with one of his swats. He'd only been playing though...
"H...hello?" he asked, his voice slightly sorrowful and immensely shy. He was still looking at the thing curiously, wondering why it wouldn't talk now. It could talk, so why wouldn't it? Was it scared of him? Maybe...it was just him? So, questioning what he'd heard with his own ears, he poked at the thing again and waited.

Ekundayo stared at the almost-lion-cub, her curiosity once again getting the better of her. Why was it talking to her tail? Was it really that interesting? She thought for a moment, then decided to play along. It must have been a game after all! She twitched her tail so the tuft moved.
"I'm Ekundayo! I'm a...uh..." She thought again. What would a tuft call itself? "Ya know...I dunno." She smiled, not letting her lack of imagination currently get the better of her. "Nice ta meet ya, Amadi! So...what're you?"
Ekundayo giggled. This was immensely fun, pretending to be just a tuft. Though she did kinda hope it would figure out there was someone attached to the tuft and talk to HER. It was always nice to look someone in the eye...well, usually.

"Ekundayo, huh?" he said, testing the name on his tongue. It was strange, but he decided that he liked it, and smiled. "Well I'm glad you decided to talk again, Ekun," he continued at last. "I thought I might've scared you." Amadi laughed, then tilted his head in even more curiosity. It could see him? But...well, where were its eyes? The cub blinked once, twice, and a third time.
"I'm...well, my momma's a lion, so I guess I am too," he obliged, then saw how the tuft moved. It was attached to something that looked...vaguely like.....a tail! AHA!
Amadi followed the tail to a black pelt, where it attached where...tails attach, and he flushed. Here he thought he was talking to a mystical bug, where in fact he was just talking to another feline, much like himself. Only...differently colored and stuff like that. Embarrassed, the cub ran around to the face-end of the lioness and frowned.
"Uhm...I'm sorry...I thought your tail was....well..." he tried to think of the word, but he really didn't identify the tuft to be anything more than...a tuft, so he cleared his throat. "Well, I thought it was something else.."

Ekundayo grinned at Amadi, glad he'd noticed quickly. "It's okay. It was kinda fun pretending ta be somethin' else!" She looked the other cub over, seeing where he was like her and her siblings...
"Ya must be a new kinda lion, cause ya look kinda like me and my sisters and brother...but diff'rent too! Cool..."
She swished her tail behind her as she crouched playfully. "Hey...ya wanna play? I know lotsa games! Or we could make one!" It was always nice to find someone else to play with. Someone new, and interesting, and...well...Bright! Ekundayo thought his coat was the coolest thing, colored like some kind of flower.

It was the first time he'd heard himself be called 'different', probably because he assumed that everybody knew that he was a lion cub, much like his mother. His father, though, he'd never seen, so in a sense he could never be too sure. With a smile he brushed the idea aside, preferring to stick to his original idea that he was a full-blooded lion.
Amadi's ears perked at her suggestion of playing. It'd been a while since he last saw any one of his littermates, so he hadn't really played in a long while. So the little leopon cub's smile widened again. "Sure!" he replied excitedly, though one could tell that behind his huge grin he was already getting tired, though he'd only been walking and looking around for several minutes.
"I don't remember any of the games my brothers and sister and I used to play together though. But..." He paused and sat in thought for a moment or two. "Well, you said you know a lot of games right? Well what'd you have in mind?"

Ekundayo danced around a bit in joy. She'd found another playmate! She turned back to the other cub, tail swishing about excitedly. "Well...there's hide and seek, or tag, or leapfrog...but you look kinda tired, so tag and leapfrog might be bad ideas..." She nodded, seemingly to herself. "Yeah! Hide and seek might be good! The lion who's 'it' closes their eyes so they dun see anything...then they count. The other one goes off to find a hiding spot. When the 'it' lion is done counting, they open their eyes and go looking for the other! When the other one is found, they become 'it'!"
It was one of her favorites, and she was fairly good at it. When she wasn't distracted. There had been many a time when she'd gotten caught because she'd bounded after some shiny or interesting looking thing. "If ya want, I can be 'it' this time! And I'll count slow, so ya can find a good hiding place~" She stopped being hyped up for a moment. "Unless you wanna play something else...I know more games!"

"Hide and seek sounds fun!" he said excitedly, tail beginning to sway faster with anticipation. "I am a little tired...but I can play! It's probably a good idea if I hide though, like you said." He turned and was just about ready to bounce away to find a good spot to hide, but he paused again. He started trying to think of how long she should count before starting to look for him. There was bunches of places to hide where they were now, so 20, he thought, would probably be the best number.
"So how 'bout counting to 20?" he asked, turning his head around so he could see her. Part of him thought that she might've start counting already, so just to be sure he turned to look.

She hadn't started yet, but nodded quickly when Amadi mentioned 20 as a good number. "Alrighty!" She turned around and lay down, covering her closed eyes with her paws. "One....two...three..." She counted slowly, to give the other cub a good chance to hide. She wanted a challenge...it was never fun if you found them quickly...unless you combined tag with it. But that could be done another day!
She couldn't help but giggle at one point while counting, tail swishing wildly in excitement. Mama Phye'li and her siblings wouldn't believe that she'd met another type of lion!

Amadi, at the start of the count, laughed aloud and ran off to find a good place to hide. He silenced himself, of course, when he finally found a good spot. It was underneath a stone that was leaning oddly against another large boulder. It formed a sort of cave-like structure, but very small. Just barely big enough so that the small cub could fit snugly within the small space, if he wrapped his tail around himself and huddled close to the walls of the boulder. He hushed and waited for the other cub, eyes dancing with delight.
But soon his eyes began to droop, and he tried his hardest to keep them open. If she didn't find him soon, he'd more than likely just...fall asleep.

Ekun finished counting with a shout of 'TWENTY!', and took off to find her new friend. She looked around and frowned when she saw no sign of him. Strange...She huffed and started running about, looking up this tree and behind that rock...And not finding any sign of him. She sat down on top of a big boulder, tongue out in thought. Where could he be hiding...
That's when the half familiar scent hit her nose. Wait a sec...Amadi? She slid down off the boulder and sniffed around the base...finally coming to a little space where another rock leaned against it. And was rewarded with the sight of a bee-colored new-lion!
"I found ya!"

He heard her count to twenty. Then some movement here and there, a loud and frustrated sigh now and again...and finally a gentle plop nearby. Amadi's eyes were now half closed, his breathing slowing steadily as he started to fall asleep. He was about to call her...but..
She was just a tad too late when she'd found him. The cub had, in fact, just barely fallen asleep. And it was a deep sleep at that. It was at some point between the last ten seconds of her count and the moment she'd taken a seat just above him (and he managed to sniff her presence just before that). It wasn't something he could control...he was just naturally weak. He needed lots of sleep..more than what could be considered normal for even a cub.
He was sorry...really, he was! And as soon as he was awake, it would probably be the first thing that would come to mind.

Ekun giggled and curled up outside the little 'cave'. "Silly Amadi." She would wait until he woke up. Surely Mama wouldn't be too upset if she was back a little late? After all, it was rude to just abandon the person you're playing with just 'cause they fell asleep. They gotta know you went home! And they certainly couldn't know if they were asleep. She smiled and yawned.
Maybe a nap was a good idea. Yes...a very good idea indeed. With that thought, ruby eyes closed and the little half-purr that served as Ekun's 'snore' started.
