They'd been on her mind.
Cubs. Not because she wanted to experience motherhood. It was far from that. Rather, she'd promised Roho that she would gift her with something to help her pride grow. And if she was successful, perhaps Katavi would train fierce warriors that would make her mother proud, and bring further pride to the name Tononeka. Despite her hesitance, she could never back out on her word; not one that she had given to Roho, at least. She respected her far too much for that.
But there was the little issue of him. She would need to get Uovu to agree to this, and the idea gave her even more hesitance. Because, really, would Uovu agree to this? The dark lioness stared at her glimmering reflection for a long time, watching as the stream water before her broke with each sway of her paw. The face staring back at her almost disgusted her. She was hormonal and girly, thinking of cubs. And yet.. not.
Finally, she took a deep breath and twisted around from where she rested by the water's edge, scanning the landscape behind her. Surely he wasn't too far. Then again, he had been wandering an awful lot lately...
"Uovu?" she called. "We need to talk."

“Coming, Katavi, coming!” yelled back a voice, “Hang on a minute, would you baby, I have a feeling I'll be able to sink my claws into the next one that crawls my way…”
The raggedy lion was crouched behind a thick cover of twisted reeds further downstream. His steel eyes were fixed patiently on the water, unblinking, waiting intently for the right moment to spear any occasional careless fish that had the misfortune to swim before him. Uovu had little experience with fishing - although he'd seen many lions go in for the kill, Uovu himself had never quite attained a proper knack for the skill. He usually preferred to take his meat off the more familiar, fleshier land-dwelling creatures. As far as Uovu was concerned, hunting required less effort, and its rewards were much greater. But Katavi was a woman, his woman, and Uovu, being a frivolous and foolish young man, would put himself in just about any situation to impress her.
This was perhaps not one of his better attempts.
“Ah, dang it!” he cursed, as his claws sliced harmlessly into the water, missing their target, and a very lucky and flustered fish swam off to safety, “I just can’t get the hang of this. Man, I was so close that time! Seriously, you should have seen it, Katavi!”
With a heavy sigh, Uovu gave up, and confidently marched over to his girl's side. He grinned at her fondly, and at once felt immensely good about himself. Ah, now, he was a lucky lion. At first, he’d always thought Katavi to be a fierce and nasty; a furious demon of a woman. It was ironic that Katavi’s dangerous personality was the exact thing that had made Uovu, over the following months, so attracted to her. She was both mentally and physically strong, and her image was gorgeous – the way her hips swivelled when she walked, the way her silky hair fell about her face, and the way her tail curled, well, it had all been too much for Uovu in the end. He’d been charmed, snared, seduced and entranced by her beauty. It was a strange feeling for Uovu, as he had never really been the romantic type, but he knew a quality lioness when he saw one, and as far as Uovu was concerned, Katavi fit the bill perfectly.
Of course, he would not openly admit that to Katavi. It was not Uovu’s style to come across as desperate. It was better to have the girl wanting him, than to reveal that he wanted her.
But then again, there was that pretty brown lioness he'd met while patrolling the borders...
Uovu shook the thought from his head. Katavi was almost his now, wasn't she? And he was almost all hers. He consciously made the decision to bar himself from thinking any disloyal, impure thoughts. Their relationship, after all, was of the utmost importance. He couldn't muck it up now. Katavi, after all, could call it off at any time.
“Okay, so what’s wrong?” he grinned toothily, not feeling quite game enough to give her a lick, “If you’ll make it brief, Katavi, that would be wonderful. I’m really keen to have another go at that ‘fishing’ business. Perhaps I’ll catch a big one to take back to Roho tonight, eh?”
He took a seat, plodding down merrily upon his rump. There was something about the riverside that relaxed Uovu, and for once much of the formality of his speech he was used to using in the Aali'Makabila was dropped. Not only was he slowly warming up to his pride mates, but he was a lion on a holiday, and he was enjoying himself.

The tension all but bled out of Katavi at that moment as she watched Uovu flounder in an obvious attempt to impress her. Her dark face melted into an expression of content, with half-lidded eyes and a saucy smirk about her lips. She couldn't say she was in love with him, but there was just something about Uovu that made her feel more lighthearted and carefree. It was like he was this bug that crawled up her skin and distracted her from the bad things, the important things, if only for one moment like this. It was sickening, truly sickening to Katavi to feel like some bimbo girl with a crush ... but it was also undeniable. She'd tried to reject him in the beginning, but to no avail. The step forward, step backward game of seduction had been too desirous, too addictive for a siren like Katavi to pass up. She had complete control over him, whether he knew it or not. With just the flick of her eyebrow and the quirk of her head, he would be hers completely. It was invigorating, yet maddening, this game they played.
"Oh, poor boy, you almost got it, didn't you?" she cooed with a taunting smile. "That's some tough luck." She'd take any opportunity to put a blow to his pride, just to be another step ahead in the chase.
She frowned at being asked to 'make it brief', but decided to let it go. At any other time, she would have loved to jab at him some more, but she figured that would not be the best method of persuasion to get him to agree to this... this plot of hers (because clearly it could be nothing other than a well-devised plan. Not those silly hormones, of course). But perhaps seduction, which she had grown so masterful at, would.
"Uovu," she purred, closing the distance between them to nudge affectionately at his cheek. "I have a much better idea of how we can please Roho, if you're game," she breathed against him. "You know how the Tononeka must grow in size and strength in order for the pride to gain more respect and authority. And you also know that, aside from our dear leader, I'm the best fighter it has."
She moved away from Uovu and began to circle him slowly, though she took care that her eyes never broke contact with him.
"And you're worth keeping," she dismissed, though in truth she knew he was far greater than some lion she kept around because he brought in the occasional rabbit. "So, I'd say it's our duty, as a fit couple under Roho's rule, to help contribute to her pride. What better people than us? We would create a force to be reckoned with. There would be no better way to get in my mother's good graces."
She paused, giving his shoulder a subtle brush with hers. She leaned towards him and murmured against his ear, "Do you understand?"
