That morning Karma had awakened to a world shrouded in white. An early spring fog had rolled in overnight and when he had first opened his eyes to it he had thought that he was still asleep. The fog was so thick that the light was dimmed into a hazy dullness. It was a strange sensation, walking through that fog. He had flown into this area the night before and didn't have a clear idea where he was going. He wasn't going to dare trying to fly when he couldn't see the air ahead of him so had no choice but to walk and squint at the blurred outlines of the shapes in front of him.

Maybe I just ought to rest for the day instead.
It was a thought but not one that he particularly wanted to fall back on. For one thing, he didn't think it would be very interesting to stay in one spot all day with no one to talk to. He could entertain himself with his own thoughts for a while but those would grow dull without fresh stimuli to provoke them.

Also... He thought he glimpsed movement ahead of him but couldn't be sure if it was anything but the swirling of mists. Also, while he wouldn't call himself being emotional by any definition... he couldn't help but feel the effects of the eerie silence that surrounded him.

A misty morning, was a normal morning, at least for this mare. The mist seemed to follow her around, wafting like a sweet scent, attracting others, yet shrouding herself in a cloud of mystery. It didn't bother her really, but sometimes, it was like she had no personal space, and that she was trapped.

Aside from that though, this large, crystal blue mare was a beauty to be admired. She was elegant, serene, and was the kindest thing one could ever hope to meet. While she was rather somber and locked up within her own thoughts most of the time, she strived to meet others and learn about them. Yes, she was an Angeni, but that didn't mean she was better than all other Soquili. Each and every life form was special and unique in its own way, or so she believed. Therefore, meeting others was definitely something on her to-do list.

While she was trotting along though, with the mist surrounding the area, she didn't pay much attention to basically anything. With her crisp, red eyes glowing softly and her giant feathered wings folded at her sides, it was like she was sleep walking, looking beautiful, but not completely there.

Karma decided that he would try to make his way through the fog. It could be that it cleared just a little further ahead and he wouldn't know unless he went forth to find out. As he walked the silence seemed as thick as the mist. His feeling of unease intensified as he strove to pick up any sound of life. Part of his mind wondered if he could be imagining this entire scenario in his sleep. It wouldn't be the first time he had dreamed so vividly that reality seemed to elude him afterwards.

He blinked moisture from his eyelashes but then stopped still. Sensation was returning to him, sound, movement. He thought he could hear soft hoof beats and the blurry outline of what was making the sound. What was perhaps the easiest to make out about the figure were the eyes, showing red even through the mist.

Something was out there that sounded like a soquili but had a pair of glowing red eyes. The strange feeling of this day just got stranger. What could it be?

The crystal blue mare felt no need to stop or retreat or anything of the sort. She generally couldn't feel or tell whether anything was around her. Yes, she spent all her time in mists and such, but when she zoned out and just kept walking, it was like the world didn't exist to her anymore, and she was walking on a cloud. Whether good or evil lurked around her, she didn't mind, for she knew that if anything were to happen suddenly, she'd snap right back into reality and be able to defend herself.

Her red eyes looked around some, seeing mist, mist, and more mist. It was always that way. It was never any different. She sighed some, just wanting a little more.. Color.. And umph! in her life. Still, she couldn't complain too much. She was, after all, an Angeni, and most Soquili would kill to have the powers she simply walked around with.

The red eyes weren't growing any closer. In fact, they seemed to be moving away. Soon they would disappear into the mist entirely and Karma would probably never know who or what they belonged to. Karma was ordinarily not one taken by bouts of curiosity but perhaps there was something in the aura of the day that made him want to know... want to see anything except the foggy whiteness.

That was why he told himself he increased his pace, moving to a faster walk to catch up to those eyes. As he got closer he thought he could make out more of a form. It was definitely some sort of soquili and... were those wings?

So, whatever it was, it had a form similar to himself. It was this connection that gave him voice.

"Hello?" His voice was soft but in the silence he knew it would carry. He hesitated, waiting to see if the other would respond.

Stopping in her tracks as a sudden, but gentle voice echoed within the mist, the large mare looked around, her crisp, red eyes peering through everything, trying to find what it was that had called out to her. She could see almost nothing... Except for.. What was that? She squinted her eyes a bit, staring at... What ever she saw. It was like a shadow.. But it had a form to it. It held the shape of... A soquili. She blinked some, not believing that one had gotten so close to her already without her finding out about it.

Stressing out, but only a little bit, she stretched her wings out far and wide, and then quickly brought them back in towards her body, making them look similar to regular wings on a wind soquili. Now though, she stood there, waiting for it to come, as it had long been doing before.

"I am here...", she spoke softly, some of the mist having been blown away when she had stretched her large wings out.

Suddenly, the silhouette grew in size with the unfurling of wings. Though unclear, Karma could see enough to know that they were far larger than his own. The shape of them reminded him a little of his father's wings had they been fuller. As he was thinking that thought the wind from the wings cleared away some of the mist allowing Karma to finally get a better look at the stranger as she was refolding them at her side.

She was...

What was she?

He stepped forward, still hesitant. He couldn't name the emotion that held him back. "I am here as well," he said after his silence, the words meaningless since he was obviously close enough to be seen by her now. "I am sorry if I have disturbed you." Her hair was long and flowing, but so was the hair of many in his family. What was it that set her apart so? Feathers plumed behind her instead of a tail and grew in tufts along her body but he knew that even they couldn't be the cause of the aura about her. It was something else... something deeper that his heart seemed to know even if his mind did not yet grasp it.

It was indeed a soquili, and one of the wind background too. Now that the mist had cleared away some and this stranger had taken the few steps forward to her, she could see him much more clearly now. He was a bit shorter than she was, but she was pretty used to things like that. His body was adorned with what looked similar to floral patterns, and his body was speckled with spots that reminded her of the stars. While no smile appeared across her features, it was present in her voice and her eyes.

"You have not disturbed me. Tell me. Who are you? What is your name?" She spoke in a very wise manor, her eyes searching him over. He seemed nice enough and no threat to her, so she didn't try to protect herself as much.

Something about the strange mare made his heart feel at ease though he couldn't say exactly why. The air of restrained wisdom about her reminded him a little of his mother though it was there the similarities ended. Where his mother was in motion and active, this mare seemed as tranquil as the glassy still waters of a lake in winter.

"I am Karma," he said in response to her question. Those few words seemed too brief, but what else could he say to a being such as this? Looking over her almost ethereal form, a realization came to mind unbidden.

"You are angeni." There was no question in his voice, for what question could there be? All of the rumors and the myths allowed him to recognize her but could not have prepared him for this reality. She was more beautiful, more everything than he could have imagined.

A soft smile quietly appeared across the muzzle of this large mare, her crisp, red eyes becoming a bit more gentle. She nodded her head some, still not feeling any threats from this smaller stallion. "I am. I hope this does not bother you in any way."

She stayed quiet for a second, unsure if she should introduce herself or not. It would be most polite to, but she was so protective of who she was... And the mere thought was not something to be tampered with. Still, Karma.. If she remember right, seemed nice enough. He was probably more in shock right now than anything else, and to this mare, that was no surprise.

"Articuno. It's a pleasure to meet you, Karma." She bowed her head some, showing him respect. At the same time, her large and feathery wings expanded out at her sides, rising up when her head rose, sparkling in the little bits of light that captured them.

Karma instinctively inclined his own head into a bow when she did him the same honor. Articuno. The name with it's sharp syllables was softened by the angeni's voice into something as beautiful and foreign as she was. Looking over the simple yet shimmering colors in her wings and mane tempted his mind to pull away and become lost in contemplation... but he wouldn't allow himself that quite yet.

"It is an honor to meet you. I..." He took a breath before continuing. There was no point in holding back. "I have been seeking the wisdom of the angeni race on behalf of my father. He has different wings from myself but cannot fly strongly with them. We have heard tales of the angeni that fly over the mountains themselves and wondered if you might impart the secret of this so that he could fly higher upon the wind as myself and my sister do." Karma rarely spoke so many words at once and even more rarely was he so hesitant about speaking. He had nothing to fear from the beautiful mare. What could be causing this reaction?

Articuno looked away for a second and then back at the winged stallion. His question was one that anyone knew the answer to, as long as they thought about and believed. Yes, Angeni could fly higher than any other Soquili out there, but that didn't mean that other winged Soquili could do almost just the same. She smiled some more, trotting towards him, the grass under her hooves bending in the slightest of ways.

"It is not the how large your wings are, or necessarily how strong they are. You can have such gigantic wings, but not be able to get even a few feet off the ground. Wings come in many shapes, styles, and sizes, and they are bound to not all work the same. However, what the true key to flying is, no matter what type of wings you may have, is believing that you can."

She stayed quiet for a moment, and then started up again, finishing her 'wise statement'.

"As long as your father can believe, Karma, and I mean truly believe... Then he will be able to soar just as you and your sister do. If that belief dwindles, then so will his ability to fly. He just has to keep it strong... Stronger than his wings and stronger than his body. Only then will he succeed."

Belief. Could something as simple as that change so much? Karma shut his eyes in quiet contemplation for a moment. It didn't make sense but still seemed correct. Hadn't his mother told him similar things as a foal? But if she knew that... why hadn't his father found within himself the belief to fly yet? Perhaps that was what was special about angeni... their capability for vast and profound belief strong enough to carry them beyond the reach of wings alone.

He opened his eyes again and a rare depth of emotion glittered with reflected shine off Articuno's wings.

"It is a wonder to me that a solution so simple would nevertheless be so obscure in the hearts of soquili. In truth, I had expected..." He trailed off, suddenly unsure of the finish to the sentence. What had he expected? Much of him had expected that it would be a natural gift of the angeni's wings or some inherent magic that no other soquili could hope to harness.

"I had expected a different answer," he finished quietly, expression almost lost in the swirls of mist between them.

Articuno slowly turned around, long hairs and feathers dragging on the ground as she went. Her red eyes watched Karma, slowly trailing off to the world around the two of them, her wings flexing at her sides a bit. She had been so focused on the stallion that she hadn't really paid much attention to the brightness that thrived all around her. The morning was slowly passing by, leading into the afternoon with the sun held high in the sky. It's amazing just how much time had passed already.

"You'll find that things are not near what they appear to be, Karma." She spoke with a gentle tone, her eyes still gazing around the two of them. "Because they appear as so does not mean that they are meant to be."

Soft chirps from a nearby bird caught her attention, a smile adorning her sparkling muzzle. "So sweet and beautiful..."

"Yes, you are."

The words were out of his mouth before he even had time to realize he was thinking them. Once said, they brought about a sudden quickening of his heartbeat, a flush of heat to his face.

Never before had he reacted to a mare like this. Used to living his life unemotionally and distant from most of the things around him, he didn't know how to react to this sudden... fervor? Devotion? Awe? What could he call an experience like this?

Emotions flashed quickly across his usual still face but he still couldn't take his eyes off the angeni before him. He was almost holding his breath while waiting to hear her response to his surprising statement. What would she do now? What would he?
