I was just curious to see how many violinists also played mandolin. I've been playing for about 6 months and the fingering and notes are basicly the same as he violin, you just pluck it instead of using a bow biggrin So yeah, if you play mandolin drop me a line and tell me about it. Has it affected your violin playing? any horror stories? share! heart

A good friend of mine plays the mandolin. He plays violin on the side just because his parents want him to. He's pretty good. Have you ever heard of Brian Wicklund? He wrote the American Fiddle Method books. My friends (both the mandolin player and a violinist) take lessons from him.

I play my cousin's mandolin from time to time. I'm planning to buy my own at some point. =]

I play mandolin a little. I prefer fiddle, although one thing I really love about mandolin is how easy it is to sing while playing. I can with fiddle too but it's difficult.

yay, I play mandolin, 'tis fun. I like to carry the mandolin on my back and carry the fiddle for bluegrass festivals and such. When I'm afraid that I won't do well fiddling, or if it's a new song I'm trying to learn, I can just case up the fiddle and pull over the mandolin. It's much quieter, so I can figure out the song for the fiddle part, without messing up everyone elsel.
