Witches. You've seen them around. Oh? You haven't. Too bad, cause they're neat.
Since you already know the basics of WHAT they are, time to get down the nitty gritty.
Every witch is only born with one power. That seems to be different from what you thought about witches. Witches don't have powers! They have books and stuff and they LEARN magic. Each person is born with one power, as I said. You are born a witch. You don't become one.
Powers can be anything, but what power you're born with is considered your specialty. There are several specialties which are sorted into three categories, and within these categories are the actual powers. Mental, physical and spiritual. Spiritual powers are incredibly rare, but they do exist. Only 1 person of every generation has these spiritual powers though. Mental powers are less common that physical.
Physical magic is the most common type. It is also what mortals think of as magic. You frame what you want in words. It often requires a conductor of magic. These are small things that a physical witch carries with her at all times. Wands were common in the old days, but they were hard to find the right wood for. There used to be plantations of wand trees for witches, but making a wand took 90 days. The process was timeconsuming, tedious and all around troublesome. Many witches turned to sentimental objects as their conductors. A small locket with a lock of a lover's hair is the most powerful, but a small childhood toy would be second best. One looks very silly carrying around a teddy bear in this day and age, so many settle for a piece of a 'security blanket'.
Examples of powers for physical witches:
Superstrength and flight are the most common and limiting abilities. While powers like spontaneous growth. the power to make yourself and other living things grow at will, is more useful.
Mental magic is the second most common type. To cast a 'spell' you control your thoughts and focus on a single idea. This is extremely difficult, but many succeed in the end. Mental witches are the easiest to integrate into normal society. These powers are subconscious at the beginning, causing chaotic problems during childhood. Luckily once a child turns five these chaotic problems disappear.
Mental witches have creatures called familiars, although some physical witches have these. Humans have heard of these as well. These familiars are magic conductors. Except that they breathe. It is old fashioned to obtain a black cat as a familiar, but many find these are not loyal. They prefer canines for familiars.
Examples of powers for mental witches:
Pyrokinesis and hydrokinesis are the most common. These allow for expounding abilities into other elements. These are incredibly useful and easily controlled.
Telekinesis is uncommon, but a very desirable power.
Spiritual witches are the rarest of all three. Spiritual witches are physically frail and mentally unstable. The only thing that one can depend a spiritual witch for is emotional support. Spiritual witches affect a person's soul and subsequently their emotions. All spiritual witches have the same power, empathy. This power grants the witch the ability to 'see' other people's emotions as an aura. They can also tamper with the emotions, bending the person towards a more desirable feeling. Some spiritual witches desire more, and take control of a person's emotions like a marionette. When this happens the person's soul is ripped from the body, leaving a zombie. Fortunately this has only happened once. The process leaves the witch brain dead, and she was put out of her misery before she could cause anyone harm.
The next generation of witches has come, only a few decades after the zombie incident. Now the spiritual witch has been found, and many people believe she will follow in the footsteps of the predecessor. Many hate her and just as many fear her. She is now attending a boarding school for witches and warlocks, and the scrutiny of her fellow students might affect her future use of powers.

Witch Education is odd. Instead of several classes in different rooms, they have one classroom for each group. There is only one textbook for each student to use. This textbook is very thin, for each subject is simplified and condensed to fit in the book. The subjects are: mental, physical, and spiritual magic along with the history of witches and a list of the greatest and worst witches of all time. In the front there is usually a warning that magic shouldn't be used carelessly.
The History of Witches has just been recently written down. In early years it had been passed down through generations by word of mouth. This means it's been condensed, changed, and rephrased several times. The written format has been used in many textbooks, but should not be depended on for accuracy.
The first witch was born on All Saint's Day. When she was born she immediately split into three young babes. Each was a master of a certain branch of magic. They fought continuosly throughout their childhood, causing many catastophies.
These witches eventually banded together to create the coven. The coven soon evolved into a sophisticated society. The three witches each married a human and had three children, and so on and so on, until we have the witch population today.
There have been no official wars between the witches, although they have assisted in mortal wars. There are many witches that have contributed to science and the arts.
While I won't go into the contributions of the Coven to society, I shall name one calamity.
The Spiritual Witch Alena.
Alena was the most promising witch out of the most prestigious witch academy, Lobelia's Academy for Witches and Warlocks. She was a beautiful young lady with impecable taste in the arts, both magical and mortal, although her taste in company wasn't. She surrounded herself with suitors, leading them on and pushing them away. She easily slipped into a person's soul as if it were a glove. In her later years she began to test her limits. She grabbed the soul of one of her lovers and forced him to fall helplessly in love with her.
Her lover was in love with someone else, so the turn was dramatic and horrid. The body was smitten with the beautiful witch, but the soul belonged to a human maiden. The soul went to the maiden as a ghost, leaving his life filled body behind.
The body and Alena both became brain dead. Alena lost control of her powers, but her desires to be loved remained. The entire hall became soulless bodies, and their souls became ghosts.
The Coven leaders arrived soon after tragedy and killed the zombies before they could cause any harm. They attempted to salvage Alena's mind, but she didn't last. They soon put her out of her misery as well.

On his left hand he wears two rings. On his ring finger he wears a ring with three moons, on his index finger he wears a celtic ring.

The Dorms:
Witch dorms and Warlock dorms are kept in one building. Co-ed dorms are common in these schools, although some separate the sexes. Lobelia Academy is one such co-ed academy. Thus the sexes aren't separated.

Several students have been bringing laptops with new technology in them. Whether or not this will distract them from their studies isn't know as of yet. Confiscation may be required. The denial of entropy has to be studied.

Perily was sitting on her bed, petting Gryffin. She looked around, making sure her roommate wasn't here yet. She looked down at the little fox, who was sleeping soundly. She smiled and gently moved him onto the bed. She stretched, and flicked her finger. The candle in the room instantly lit up. The school was old, as in no electricity. But there were candles lit along the hallways and gaslamps as well, so it gave it an almost romantic air. She picked up the candle, and poked her head out. It was almost night, so now was the time most of the new students arrived. Even in the daytime the dorms were dark, so people usually carried candles around, just in case the gas lamps went out.
She gingerly stepped out, making sure not to knock over any candles placed by the door, and looked around. She smiled. She loved the dorms before the rush of students came. It was a gothic feel, purely witch-like. She set about the hallways, holding her candle out as a guidelight. She enjoyed the peace as long as she could before sitting down outside, watching the sun set.

Destany was sitting in her room glad she had a room to herself. She pulled out her headphones and blasted motion city soundtrack in her ears. She pulled her laptop and started to write an online journal of everything. She hated writing and she hated school. She was a rather gothic/emo kid. She was entranced by the candle light. She was always happy to be alone. She then put her laptop away and grabbed a candle and went outside. It was almost all dark outside so she was pretty happy, well on the inside she was. She never showed it though.

He walked down the hall book-bag in hand, with a darken sly smile on his face.
He made sure that before he got into the school his demon wasn't awake. He not like many others was a dark Warlock. The gift was passed down threw his family only to the eldest son. He was the chosen one, the only one that knew about the demon was the headmaster at the school.
He didn't think of this place as a school though, more like a prison, for witches and warlocks. He saw a dim candel light shining and moving towards his genral direction. His smile fadded and his face had no emotion. "Do you know where room A1 is?"

Riley made the candle brighter so she could see the boy's face. "Yes, I shall." She turned, beginning to walk towards her room. Her steps were deathly quiet, and the candle wax dripped onto her fingers.
