Soft hoof beats thudded announcing the arrival of a small mare to the river. She bowed her head to take a drink from the fresh water with a smile. Somehow she felt satisfied being out here even doing such simple things. Perhaps it was because for the last few weeks she hadn't been allowed outside of the teepee even for a little while. She knew there was a reason for it, Lunathiel hadn't wanted the young mare to take any chances with the children growing inside her. Remembering that Lunathiel was the one that kept he inside brought up a rather painful memory.

Dark had found out about her being pregnant and had run off. She shut her eyes her smile fading. She had thought Dark would have been happy with this news. Apparently not.

Lucario was a wandering soul. It was easy to keep to himself as he went from one place to the next. He had seen all the lands; the mountains, the south shores, the lush forests, and from a safe distance, the villages. Along the way, he had meet two soquili....two. One of which, he knew by name now. The other, not so much. He had seen many more soquili, but never felt the need to strike up a conversation. A little anti-social, perhaps, but more a stallion of purpose. If there seemed a reason to talk to someone, then he would. Reason just seemed far from him when it came to most all strangers.

Today was no different than any other. Lucarios hooves beat along the river paths side, aimlessly searching for a destination with no real intent on finding one worth anything. He would wander most of the day away, stopping to graze and nap. He didn't sleep much, even at night.

A flat mouthed expression didn't change one bit, as the steel blue stallion saw another soquili on the path in front of him. His crimson eyes looked at the mare from a distance, only briefly, before focusing his eyes behind her. She didn't seem like a threat, so he wouldn't change his course. He would just continue on past her, not making eye contact as he did. As it went, most would stand in silence when he did. Occasionally, one might call out to him, but his closed ended answers tended to halt the conversations quickly.

As he approached, his only thought, was whether to pass to her left or right.

Tan ears swiveled as the distinctive thud of another horse's hooves reached Scarlet. The young mare's head lifted to see who was approaching, her brown eyes were sparkling with hope that maybe just maybe it was Dark. As her eyes fell on the steely blue stallion, however, that shine all but vanished. She was a fool for getting her hopes up like that but she was not a rude fool.

With a small, almost unnoticeable, smile she gave her head a small bow to greet the other horse. Just because she was disappointed and upset didn't mean she could just ignore the manners she had been, painstakingly, taught. "Good day." She said softly taking a few moments to get a better look at the stranger.

He was rather odd looking. His tail was shaped almost like a lightning bolt and didn't seem to be made up of mostly hair like hers was. He had an odd ruff around his neck that looked to be made out of thick hair or fur and he had a few strange black things coming from behind his ears. She did not even know what to compare them too for they were like nothing she'd ever seen. Finally her eyes fell on the spikes on his forelegs and the one on his chest.

Her pulse quickened fear taking hold of her mind as it always seemed to do when she encountered new people. This time, however, it wasn't just fear for her own well being. No, now she had to worry about the young ones growing inside her as well and perhaps it was this added pressure that put the new look of terror in her eyes even though the stallion had done absolutely nothing to show he was a threat.

To her right, that would be the path he took, as he walked around her. Side stepping silently, he prepared to make the pass without much effort. His ear swiveled as sound of her voice broke the silence he had been in for days. He took a few more steps, then stopped to look at the mare, debating whether to respond. Was it a good day? What would make any day for that matter, good or bad?

His head slowly lifted to one side as he observed her next reaction to him. He watched as her breath increased and fear spread over her eyes. How quickly her kind greeting had changed when she saw how different Lucario looked. It didn't offend him, rather, he understood.

"You have nothing to fear." he offered, as he turned back to look past her, willing his hooves to continue on their way. She couldn't fear him if he just left. An easy prize he gave to any soquili with such a reaction. He would leave her be. She would relax once he was out of sight, he was confident of this.

Scarlet watched as he continued on his way past her, accompanied by his words it manged to calm her down. She was a little surprised though, that he didn't even really pause to talk. Everyone she had encountered so far had at least taken a few minutes to exchange greetings with her.

Soft brown eyes looked to the ground as she was suddenly overwhelmed with a feeling of guilt. "I'm sorry." She said thinking that it was her reaction that had driven him away. She couldn't help it. Fear was the driving force of everything she did. She did everything she could to stay safe so that she wouldn't panic and still every time something new entered her life she would panic no matter how small the thing was.

She wanted to say something else but the words kept sticking in her throat. It wasn't time for her to speak. Not yet.

His hoovesteps stopped abruptly. His eyebrows barely lifted with a hint of expression in his face. He was pretty expressionless most of the time. His eyes looked in the top corner direction, away from the mare, as he took a split second to process this. She was sorry??

His eyes fell back the other direction and his chin swiftly followed their lead. He looked at her for a moment, shifting his eyes forward and back inbetween thought. "There is nothing, you need to apologize for."

He waited, feeling a need to pacify her at the moment by lingering. How odd that one would apologize to him. It was something he hadn't expected from the delicate mare.

She shook her head. He was wrong, there were plenty of reasons for her to be apologizing. "I...don't mean to be scared..." She said finally lifting her head to look at the stallion. He had stopped and she was both surprised and glad that he had. Surprised because she was certain she had offended him but happy because she really missed being in the company of others.

It was a bit strange for her to want to be near large numbers of people as she was practically terrified to meet anyone new but it was something she wanted anyway.

"I...I just...am..."Her voice trailed off and she let her eyes drift back to the ground again her head following. It wasn't right for her to be talking so much, she reminded herself. She was in new company it was her place to be quiet and answer questions until she was familiar with him.

His eyebrows raised slightly again. She was openly admitting her fear to him. He didn't mind that she had be afraid, but didn't expect her to feel sorry for it. He was the way he was, and with that came odd reactions from others when they saw him. It neither bothered him, nor made him proud. He simply was. That was his view about it.

Now here, is a perfect stranger, going out of her way to aplogize for feeling such a way. It really wasn't her fault.

He kept his eyes on her face for the most part, but when she dipped her head down again, he did notice her abnormally large belly behind her. Had he any sense, he would of known she was pregnant, and what's more, than pregnant mares are fickle.

"Being scared isn't a sign of weakness. It's instinctive for survival. As such, I take no offense at your reaction." He didn't turn to face her all the way, neck still craned around at her. But rather, he stood like a statue, in the same exact stance as each moment passed.

An instinct. She sighed, yes it was something she knew all too well. It was, after all, what kept her shut inside the teepee most days. It was what kept her mind locked away most days. Fear was something she knew all too well but she was thankful that he wasn't upset with her. It was one less thing she wouldn't have to worry about.

"I'm glad." She said a small smile finding it's way onto her face. "That you aren't mad at me..." With that said she fell silent again awaiting the next comment or question. She was odd for waiting like this still. She had been told on numerous occasions that it was okay to ask questions to keep the conversation moving. For some reason, though, she could remember being told long before coming here not to speak unless she was spoken to. That rule seemed to stick with her better then the newer ones. There were only two exceptions to this rule and those were greeting others and asking how they were doing.

"Oh!" she lifted her head looking rather upset with herself again for some reason. "I'm sorry. I forgot...how are you?"

His lip twisted up slightly on one side. Why would he be mad at her? He could see no reason for this either. He was equally as silent as he contemplated her reaction. Her forced question sticked him as odd too. It seemed as if she was a little hard on herself. He wasn't accustomed to this way of thinking at all, but wasn't bothered by it.

He didn't take concern in others. But for some reason, he was humoring himself by the odd mare. Of course, any mare would be odd to him, but more so that this one was actually trying to guard his feelings. Any that he had met either ran off, or had nothing to say. He surely wasn't going to start up a conversation, so it was always a short meeting.

"As you put it....I am." was his reply. He couldn't express it more. He was neither happy, nor alone, he just was.

Turning to the side, to face the rose dust mare, he dipped his head to the side to look in her eyes. He was a tall fella, so it was a small reach to be at eye level. "My question is, how are you?" his voice held a strange air of concern. Like he was delving for a deeper answer then normal formalities would permit.

She did not know what to think of his response. It was a very odd answer indeed and she didn't know what to make of it. "You are...what exactly?" It seemed like he had finished his thought but she wasn't sure she had heard everything. She didn't want to offend him by not knowing what he had said. It seemed necessary to ask.

"I am..." she paused trying to find a good way to respond. "A bit round right now..." It certainly wasn't a normal way to answer but then, his answer hadn't been normal either. She wanted to say that she was stressed or upset but it didn't seem right. She couldn't just go about troubling people with her problems.

"Hmm." He thought a bit as to how a better answer could be made. He had to really think about it. "I am, exactly, me. I can't complain, nor praise my existence." He said with equal neutrality.

"You appear to be more, than just a bit round." he said, paying no mind to her belly, watching her expressions cast feelings of truth. She seemed troubled, but he wouldn't tell her that. If she wanted him to know so, she would say. He gave her his full attention, in case she did just that.

She nodded to show that she understood. It was odd, what he said, but it made sense. If he wasn't happy or sad then that would leave nothing to be really other then his self. She was a bit sad to hear this, though. It was much nicer to hear that others were happy but as long as he wasn't upset she supposed she shouldn't worry about it.

Her eyebrows knitted together in confusion. She didn't know what he meant by that. Did he mean that she was a bit fatter then she thought she was or had he seen through her and wanted to know what she was really feeling?

"I'm not sure what you mean..." She said quietly shifting her weight slightly, she hadn't expected the weight from carrying children to be so much. "...but...I..." her voice trailed off as her mind began to tick slowly. She wasn't sure if she should say it. In a way she wanted to but she did not want to burden others with her worries for more then one reason. First off she didn't want to see others sad and second it often caused her mind to basically shut down.

Lucario wasn't used to being in a conversation that required a little more out of him. He pondered that briefly, thinking about the possibility of the conversation not moving on, if he didn't help will it too. If he would of thought simply to ask what was on her mind, things might of gone a little smoother. But, nothing was ever easy with the steel blue stallion when it came to talking to others.

"Hmm." was all he could muster at first. She still seemed like more was to be said, but cut herself short. He parked himself in front of her, lowering himself to the ground in a heavy heap. Maybe at this level, he would be a little less intimidating. He had pride, but if something as simple as this could help, it didn't hurt anything.

Giving her his full attention, he waited a moment, large leathery ears turned forward.
