I reenact the Ohio frontier period from about 1770 to about 1815. I portray a son of a Scottish indentured servant who came to the colonies after the Battle of Culloden in 1745 and went out west after his servitude had ended. My portrayal has to deal with the son becoming a trapper in the Ohio Appalachian wilderness.
Oh and these pictures of me? I've hand made everything in my costumes except for the hat, the breech clout and the shirt (not the vest. i made that)

Me looking cool outside of the tomahawk block area (they were smart and put a porta potty there knowing us reenactors could stay there ALL DAY)

A tomahawk game called, "Handles" where you try and throw the tomahawk at someone else's hand from a tomahawk for points. Pretty damn fun and REALLY addicting.

Me reading on the last day of the rendezvous. Just to relax and such.

Oh and BTW. The guys who are looking all scottish and stuff? That's a common portrayal around here due to how many Scottish indentured servants continued their way of life from the homeland in Ohio on the frontier free from British cultural oppression.

There's even an instance of Colonel Patton in the French and Indian War during a Shawnee raid in what's now west virginia taking his family's claymore sword and running out to fend off the attacking tribesmen from the settlement with it.

Wow, that looks like fun. Especially that tomahawk game.

I've never done it though, I don't think there are many places around me that do such things, but I'd probably be surprised if I had a look about.

I saw some stuff about the black powder clubs doing some frontier reenactments in Australia in a shooting mag so you'd have to look into a few of them to make sure.

It is really fun. Handles is a fun game. But it's always good to have a blanket trader in the camp so you can buy more handles in case you have yours split.

And it's interesting I should bring up trading. I've traded for most of my gear. All of it would cost upwards of 2000 dollars but I don't think I've spent more than 100 bucks on all of it.

Awesome, what does your gear/outfit consist of?
PostPosted: Mon Mar 24, 2008 6:34 am

Well I've got my trapper's beret.

My buckskin vest and leggings. I have some elkskin moccasins. I also have my possibles pouch where I keep some supplies I may need on a trek or something (extra bandages, medicine, trail mix, jerky, fir starting kit). Then there's my elk and buckskin leggings and my breechclout. I have several of those but my red and black one's my favorite because I sewed in some buckskin to make it easier on the groin so it's a bit more comfortable when it's all you have to wear for a few days. I have a wide brimmed cowhide belt with a cast iron buckle that I've had for about 8 years now.

Also I have a trading knife (used historically to trade with the Great Lakes region Indian Tribes) and my bowie which is hand made and all. I also have a trunk where I keep all of my extra things such as my canvas shirt and some cotton knee high socks (trust me they may sound girly but they save your knees and legs from being rubbed raw from my leggings.). I also keep some books and stuff in there too. I have a buffalo skin as well which you can see me sitting on in one of the pictures. Buffalo skin's expensive as hell but I worked a guy down on a really good trade knife for it.

Oh wow, putting that up along side the price you said you paid for it all is really good value.

How long do these reenactments last for? What do you do for food?
PostPosted: Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:25 pm

Anywhere from a weekend to two weeks.

And we pack food with us before the trip like a normal camping trip. Just cook it over a fire and stuff. All of it being period foods as well.

The picture in the first post however. I'm like dead tired from being up late the night before and getting drunk and then having to go out early in the morning to chop wood and get water.

WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THIS GIANT THOUGHT OF A FIRE HAZARD!

Okay this may be just me but most of the Viking Reenactors in the states seem like the kind of guys who stay in their mom's basements and play Dungeons and Dragons and World of Warcraft all day (not knocking either cause I play both). Is it like that in Sweden usually?
