The winged soquili was exhausted as he finally made his way out of the forests and back onto the seemingly endless plains. He had been on the move for nearly three days now his mind to bothered to ever let him rest even for a moment. He had only taken a few steps before he gave into the call of the long grass and lay down to rest both his wings and legs.
With a heavy sigh Dark's eyes closed and he tried to relax himself to finally let sleep claim him. After drifting off a few times only to be snapped quickly back by one nagging thought he decided that his mind was still against his body. With another impatient sigh he lifted his head and glared at nothing in particular.
Why was this happening? He had always had such good luck, was it possible that his luck had finally run out?

It was an odd thing, to have a feeling of needing to be somewhere, when you were quite certain that you had nowhere in particular to be. The sensation had been plaguing the blond haired male consistantly enough during the last few days or so to be a pest. Krad was used to dealing with pests, namely a certain thief named Dark. Their last encounter had ended rather irritatingly, but such was just the way Dark was, always needing to get the last word or action in. Krad had become quite used to it by now, by necessity if not by choice.
Pacing through the long grass, Krad gave a rather wide yawn, snorting at the end and ruffling his wings. Cat-slit eyes flicked to the sky briefly, considering as he walked. It was late, the sun had fallen beneath the horizon long ago, leaving the stars and a sliver of moon to cover the black sky. Perhaps now would be a good time to find a place to rest. The odd nagging sensation had been slowly easing the longer Krad had traveled his weaving path, leading the blond to believe that perhaps he had arrived at wherever he was supposed to be. A rest wouldn't hurt much, he thought.
As it was, he was nearly within easy eyeshot of the thief, too caught up in his own ponderings to register the other's close presence immediately. Only the thief's rather loud, irritated sigh and shift within the grass halted Krad's soft steps before he could be seen. Tilting his ears back slightly, he peered through the grass, recognizing the back of the thief's wild mop of hair by the slim light provided by the moon. So, Dark was here. It was a curious thing, to find the thief so far from his usual haunts...and looking so worn. Even from this distance, the pale soquili could tell how tired and restless his counterpart was. Call it an odd sense of intuition he had for the purple haired thief.
Normally, Krad would have jumped at the chance to catch Dark so unaware, but the other's condition stilled the impulse. This time, Krad only made his way through the grasses at a wide arc around the resting male, not wanting to startle Dark too badly. It would be bad enough to have one's rival pop up under one's nose when they were least expected.
"Being troubled doesn't become you Dark Mousey. Yet you always seem to be that way whenever we meet." Krad said softly, voice tinged with amusement as he stopped a short distance from the black winged male, a smirk curving his lips.

That voice. That irritating voice was the last thing he wanted to hear at this particular moment. Blood red eyes rolled and the thief allowed his great head to drop back into the long grass from sight. "And wouldn't you know it's the same girl causing all these problems?" He said trying to keep his sense of humor despite the situation. He wasn't sure the attempt would go over well as his voice had decided now would be a good time to start breaking from a combination of lack of use and tiredness.
It was true, that both the times he had encountered Krad that his mind had been wrapped around the little butterfly mare that had wandered into his life. For a moment he wondered how life would have been if he hadn't decided to speak to Scarlet that first time. Probably much better then it was now.
With that thought his eyes opened again and he narrowed his eyes, annoyed at himself for thinking such things. "Consider yourself lucky Krad." He grumbled not really caring whether his voice would reach the blond's ears or not.

Krad tilted an ear back at Dark's admission, looking surprised. It was very unlike the thief to let a female, of all things, to plague his thoughts so entirely. "Oh? How...unlike you, to be stuck on a female for so very long." He chuckled, pacing closer and tilting his head as he studied the thief. The blond had caught the slight break in Dark's voice, as well as the sheer weariness there. It made Krad look just a bit closer at the thied, an inspection which confirmed his earlier observations. Dark truely did look worn out, his head lying heavily upon the grass, even his wings drooping slightly.
Unsure of how to approach the matter, he instead focused on Dark's last comment, giving a snort. "Lucky? And exactly why should I consider myself lucky?" He questioned, flicking his tail. The thief had better not say something along the lines of Krad's apparent dislike of females. While a true statement in the vaguest of ways, Krad might not be able to restrain himself from kicking Dark in retialiation. Something he was surprisingly not keen on doing at that moment, not when the thief was looking so dejected and torn.
To aid in his restraint, Krad folded his legs and settled to the ground beside the thief, an act which would serve a multiple purpose. One was that he could see the thief better, in addition to Dark not having to crane his head upwards to look at Krad...if he even chose to lift his head at all. And Krad wouldn't be able to kick Dark so easily from this position.

Instead of taking a cheap shot at the counterpart he went with what was really on his mind for once. "Because, right now you aren't me..." He said lifting his head to look at the other finding it much easier to do now that Krad was on his level. He was oddly glad to have some company even if it was from a sworn enemy. For a moment this thought made him consider that this was a dream, but then, a dream would mean he would be asleep and he felt far too tired to be asleep.
With a deep breath he retreated back to his thoughts. The question now was not what he should do or why this happened. No, now it was all about whether he should explain the situation to try and put his mind to rest and risk the mocking or stay silent and endure many more sleepless nights.
"She's pregnant." The words had spilled from his mouth before he had fully considered what he was saying. Perhaps this was one of the reasons creatures slept. To keep their thoughts safely in their heads until they should be spoken.

"There isn't a day that goes by where I don't consider myself lucky for not being you. Of that you can be sure." He chuckled, lips curving at his amusement, the soft tone of his voice taking away any sting that his words might carry. It wasn't meant to be mocking. It was just a wholly true statement. But then again, there were the times that Krad wished he was Dark...but those times were very few and far between.
But of all the things that could have fallen from Dark's mouth, those were not even on the list of possibilities. Krad blinked, eyes widening and ears flattening back against his head before he twitched them back forwards. Considering the statement, he eyed the thief. "Your Scarlet is?" He questioned, figuring that to be most likely, but wanting to make absolutely sure before he made any further judgement.

Krad's words simply drifted over him. He wanted to laugh or smile even but he just wasn't in a laughing mood. On a different day perhaps he would have found it a bit funny that Krad was being so unusually nice.
He nodded slowly in answer to the blond's question. He was a bit surprised that he wasn't being told something along the lines of 'tough luck' right now but he was grateful. That wasn't what he needed to hear. He needed help but he couldn't help but think that he was looking for comfort in the strangest of places.
"Yeah...she...she looked...you could tell..." He was at a loss for words. Everything he tried to say just didn't sound right. "Luna's pretty sure I'm to blame and Scarlet..." He shook his head, not really knowing what to say, before resting his head on the ground once again. The need for sleep was slowing his thoughts his body and mind demanding two completely different things from the black winged stallion.

'Tough luck' wasn't something Krad would say to anyone, much less to someone in Dark's current predicament. It was an entirely unhelpful comment and as such, useless to voice. But then, his next words were probly just as unwelcome.
"Then why aren't you there with her?" Krad asked simply, raising a brow and looking unimpressed with Dark's attempt at speaking. The thief was just too tired to function properly, so Krad overlooked the confusion and jumble in the other's normally strong voice. Knowing Dark, he had probly been running since he found out about being a father-to-be and hadn't stopped until his body was about to give out. It was just something Dark would do.

Dark's mind blanked. He couldn't think of a single thing to say that was both true and would prevent him from getting the beating of a life time. He wanted to blame the lack of sleep for this but he knew that it wasn't a cause. The reason he wasn't there was because he was too scared to be and that really wasn't something he was about to admit, brain functioning or not.
"It's not really a good place to be right now..." He said lifting his head once again to give Krad a look that was meant to say 'drop it' but came out looking more or less like Dark had been in the two-leggers fire water. It was true. It was not a good place for the thief to be at the moment. Earlier it may have been alright but after running off he couldn't really imagine going back without the older blue mare chewing his ear off before binding his wings to his sides for good.
He shuddered at the thought his sleepless mind making the image far too real for his liking. If he went back, Lunathiel wouldn't let him leave. She'd take away his freedom for good and personally he'd rather give up sleeping.

Krad gave a disgusted snort and rolled his eyes. A paltry excuse to give and Krad wasn't buying it. "There's never a good place to be Dark. Especially where it concerns you." He said, tilting an ear back in amusement, lips twitching before the expression fell from his face as he continued. "But you should be there none the less. This is your responsibility to help with."
The blond paused, considering his next words. "Your Scarlet...she must be in great pain, to have to go through this without you there by her side. She seems to depend so very much upon you, and must be feeling quite lost and ashamed because you ran away. You should be there with her to help her bear this unexpected burden. No matter if it's a good or bad place to be." He said softly, glancing away briefly before turning his head back to Dark and giving him a neutral gaze.

"I'm glad you find this funny..." Dark grumbled wanting to kick the other in the face currently. He wondered if this was how Krad felt all the time when Dark was cracking jokes at his expense. Oh how the tables had turned, unfortunately they seemed to have turned out of his favor this time.
He listened quietly, a big change for him, to what Krad said. He was rather shocked at what the blond was saying. "She's doing fine..." he said not wanting to admit to himself that all this was likely true. "She was sleeping with a big smile on her face last time I saw her and she has Luna to take care of her." He didn't bother bringing up the fact the Scarlet had never been awake to know that he had returned in the first place.
The thought of Scarlet being upset made his heart sink a little bit. She had never really ever seemed too happy with her life but he didn't want her to be sad.

"She was sleeping? So she wasn't yet aware that you'd run away..." Krad paused, lip curling slightly. "...I never thought you to be so cruel. How do you think she'll feel when she wakes up and finds you not there? Finds out that you have run from her in fear and shame of what you've done? Don't you think that will hurt her more?" He snorted, looking annoyed at his darker counterpart and just wanting to knock some sense into him.
The blond heaved a heavy sigh and shook his head. "Lunathiel may help in the beginning, but she cannot take the place that is, by rights, yours to fill. A place where a father should be to support both his children and the mother of those children."

It seemed he didn't need to say anything, Krad was as perceptive as ever. He sighed and shook his head not wanting to hear this anymore. He didn't need to think about how upset Scarlet probably was at this moment.
"Because you know so much about parenting Krad." He snapped getting on his feet with surprising speed considering how tired he was. He didn't need to hear this, didn't need to think about it, and didn't need to deal with Krad either. With a flick of his tail he turned about to head back into the woods where it would hard to find him.
Or maybe he did. The thought stopped him in his tracks.
Maybe that was exactly what he needed to be thinking about at the moment. Perhaps this was exactly what his subconscious mind needed him to hear so that he could rest. "How am I supposed to be there for her when I don't know what to do? It just...doesn't work like that."

Krad blinked, looking surprised before his ears flattened and his lips curled to bare his teeth at Dark's sudden aggression. That had been a low blow. But Krad didn't move to get up, just watched Dark start to storm off with narrowed eyes, scowling.
When Dark stopped, Krad stayed silent and listened as Dark voiced his unease. Giving a sigh, Krad heaved himself to his feet, shaking his clothing into place and pacing the short distance to Dark's side. "It's called a learning experience." He said gently, giving a soft chuckle. "No one knows everything there is about raising a child. You learn as you go." Krad gave another sigh, watching Dark. "You have to go back. Even if you don't know what you're doing...I believe you're smart enough to figure it out eventually." Krad paused, lips curving in a grin. "At least, if you actually use your head for once."

Somehow, despite the situation, Dark couldn't help but smile. He had known that Krad wasn't trying to kill him every second anymore for a while now but he hadn't ever really expected to see such a soft side of the white winged stallion. "You know...if I wasn't so tired I'd think I was dreaming right now...a twisted sort of dream..." Somehow, just the pathetic attempt at humor was making him feel better. He didn't know if he could do this though.
"You know that Lunathiel will kill me if I show up again, right?" He said after thinking over the situation in his mind again. It would be easy to get back in Scarlet's favors, perhaps a little too easy but he would worry about that another time. Lunathiel, on the other hand, could hold a grudge. He had heard her saying many things about events that had happened back in her childhood that she was still mad about. "It's not...really something I'd like to experience..."
