I know how people speak of physical pain and how it's real. I'm a sprinter on the track team, so I know about it. Still, I've had shin splints and muscle aches in the legs recently. Every time I take a warm-up run with the sprinting team, it hurts. But then I start thinking about how in The Matrix, they let go of fear, doubt, and all that other stuff. I tried doing the same thing for my pain, and it felt distant. It's got me thinking...is physical pain real? Or is it an illusion of the mind? I know what a lot of people are going to say for an answer...but still, I can't help but wonder about it...

Just a matter of personal opinion, i think pain is a matter of decisioun..o whether or not you will feel it.Kind of like what monks do..they dont want to feel hungry so they dont... ^___^ hehe..But it is a reality..its still there, you just have to decide whether youll be ignoring it or accepting it...

The electrical impulses are absolutely real, though your ability to mentally supress the pain's intensity is argue-able.

Pain is sent to your brain by electronic impulses. But if your brain is being distracted by other feelings and/or thoughts then its easier to ignore it.

Everything that happens is an illusion of the mind, that's proven. You cry when there's shampoo in it because your mind tells you that somethings wrong with your eyes and the tears come out to wash it out. Same with pain.

Many things are structures of the human mind. In fact matter is not as we perceive it but simply immeasurable energy contained in attoms. Indeed, we cant be sure about alot of things. As for youre question, people are able to supress pain during surgery without anesthesia through hypnosis, and some monks in India can will theyre hearts to stop. Adrenaline also reduces pain and even completely numbs it when people are shot, so under certain circumstances pain certainly can be supressed. However I am not sure whether a normal person could supress pain by will or not.

First we must consider the process of focusing your brain on something else. For example, a lot of times when people get hurt they bite their finger, because of the new sudden pain te don't feel the first worst pain because their brain focuses on that. Another thing is when something big happens or when you go into shock. For example if you have a broken arm and you don't have the cast yet, your sitting on your porch and you see a little girl run across a busy street, she about to get run over. So the adrenelin kicks in and you run into the street, grab the girl at the last second, and just barely reach the other side before the brakes squeel and you see that if you didn't save her, she'd be dead. Another thing you realize, your holding the 60 pound girl with both your arms, the broken one balancing most of her weight. But why don't you feel anything? This is mostly because your brain's focus was abrubtly pulled towards something else, and you picked her up so eaisly because of the adreneline. The bad thing is the girls safe and slowly your brain re focuses itself, now your arm hurts even worse. Dose that tell you anything?

my personal opinion is that pain does infact exist, but it is your choice to feel it or not. then there is the other side to it. some people just dont feel pain because there mind is so focused on depression or even the smallest anxiety. this topic could even cause problems with peoples feeling towards the gift of life. i wont explain that, but i think everyone understands what i mean.
