{The day was warm; sunny. The cluster of trees cast a little relief for those who disliked the sun; and a stream, leading to a small pond, was perfect for play.}
Kaali used his huge wings to slowly come in to land; his golden eyes roaming. Last time he had seen her, Friahna had been here with her foals. He stepped out of the air; his wings tucking into his huge back as his ears swung back and forth. He could smell them on the wind- but where were they? He shrugged and bend his head; lapping at a mouthful or two of water before walking towards the clump of trees.

Irene stood protectively by her Mother's side on the other side of the trees, nose to the sky while her tail swished animatedly from side to side in an attempt to amuse herself. She had not wished to join in her siblings' games even though she was nearly bored to tears, instead, she remained close to Friahna as she didn't want to risk anything happening to her. There was gentle breeze hanging over the area in which they stood and with it came a familiar, sweet scent that lingered for a few seconds before getting blown along by a strong gust. It was indeed familiar but Irene could've sworn she'd never smelt it before, to her it felt like déjà vu. Flicking her ears to locate whatever was the cause of the aroma, the youngster hesitantly trotted fowards, stopping every now and then to look back at Friahna.

Kaali approached the trees; but found himself reluctant to actually enter the shaded area. The sun was wonderful; he stretched out his sandy-coloured wings and let out a little whickering sound; it felt warming, down to his very muscles. He stretched his head around to groom said wings; ruffling then smoothing each and every feather, letting out little noises of happiness.

At the point where Irene was close enough to hear the minor noises, her body froze with fear and anxiety; her muscles ceased to work while her senses shut down. Her mind urged herself to move, that there was nothing to be scared of, but still, her body refused to advance forwards until she shakily kicked her back leg with her front one to give her body a wake-up call. There's nothing to be scared off . . . what you were expecting to be the cause of the scent? A flower? She hissed inwardly and crept closer, ears flattened against her mane as she neared the clump of trees. Through the leaves and branches she could just make out the hazy figure of a sandy coloured creature, from where she was standing it was impossible to tell whether it was Unisus or some deadly predator, not that she knew of any. "H-Hello?"

Kaali was settling down to his grooming; re-arranging his feathers, smoothing his fur, and making himself generally clean and tidy, when he heard the timid, young voice. His black-tipped ears instantly tilted forward; he took a step. "Hello? Are you okay out there?" He hoped his voice wouldn't intimidate the youngster, wherever he or she was; he was a huge pegasus, and his voice reflected that. It reverberated in his chest, building to a powerful voice capable of great passion. Right now, however, he was trying hard to keep it gentle.

Irene's pupils shrank with astonishment at how powerful and loud the creature's voice was, she had never heard such vocals before and to be honest, it frightened her. Judging by the fact he'd asked if she was okay, the foal could safely say he wasn't going to eat her, but on the other hand, harming her was a different matter. "I'm f-fine." Her voice was shrill and her pronunciation of words was faltering, coming out in little stutters that most likely didn't make any sense from where the opposite animal was standing. Slowly stepping forwards until her muzzle brushed against the leaves, Irene tightly scrunched up her eyes to protect them from harm, pushed through the branches until she broke through on the other side and kept her eyes closed. The sun was extremely bright, warming up her face the instant it touched her; she could tell it would blind her if she opened her eyes right now.

Kaali could see the tiny head emerge from the trees and bush. Her eyes were screwed shut; her expression... Terrified? Kaali gaped slightly and stepped towards her. "Are you... Afraid of me?" He tilted his head to one side; his golden eyes on the small foal. She looked like... Like she might be... One of Friahna's? They grew so fast, it was hard to tell.

Irene responded with a violent shake of her head, her dark mane separting into thick locks of hair. "No Sir. It's just the sun is very strong." She blurted out rapidly, her sentence coming out as one long word. Opening one chocolate coloured eye and then the other, she found herself staring up into the face of a large male Pegasus, his expression slightly puzzled. "Oh!" The foal gasped in surprise, she hadn't been expecting a Pegasus of such a big build. Nonetheless, she politely greeted him with a low bow and cocked her head to one side, her little eyes skimming over his body, tsking everything in.

Kaali smiled at her manners. So adorable... He returned her bow; stepping a little closer to her. "You'll get used to the sun, little one." He shook out his mane; relishing the sensation of the warmth on his sandy brown locks. He looked back to the youngster. When I was younger, my mane was that colour, he though, distractedly. For a moment he felt on the edge of some great truth; then it slipped away, and he returned his attention to her. "What's your name?"

"I hope so, I don't want to live in the dark forever." Irene smiled warmly with a flick of her dark tail, her eyes shining brightly as they reflected the light. Once he had stepped towards her, she raised her muzzle a little higher and breathed in deeply his fresh scent, savouring it for a few seconds before exhaling. A faint glimmer of remembrance flickered through her mind before fading away, she wasn't sure what it was but she knew it was something important. "My name is Irene. What's yours?"

Kaali remembered finally introdcing himself to Friahna; when he realised how femanine his name was. He smiled at the memory; he knew now that Irene was one of Friahna's little girls. "My name is Kaali. I know your mther, Irene- a small unicorn called Friahna? She's a good friend of mine." The little unicorn had kept him away when she was pregnant; Kaali had respected that, although he didn't realise how common it was. He had only seen Irene and her siblings- Adelaide and Narlen, he thought they were called- a couple of times. Maybe he could change that.

Irene looked a little taken aback at the fact he was a good friend of Mother's, what a coincidence that the first stranger she bumped into was a family friend. "Wow! How did you meet her?" She couldn't recall Friahna ever mentioning Kaali, or any other Pegasus, so now was the perfect time for asking questions. I better get comfy for this. Plopping herself downwards buttock first, she sprawled out her hind legs with her fore arms inbetween them and pursed her lips together, eyes widening to the size of saucers. "Also, if you know my Mother, do you know who my Father is?"

Kaali stifled his amusement at the little foal's plopping down on the ground; she really was so adorable. He pondered on her dual questions. "Hmm. No, I don't know who your father is, I'm afraid- I've barely seen your mother since you were born, and I've never really heard her talking of being close to another male." He frowned; wishing he'd been brought up with someone to explain pregnancy to him- or that he had the courage to ask Koochie or Friahna about it. He shrugged; if he knew he might be able to find out, but he didn't. "As for how I know your mother..." Kaali laughed; the memory was a special one to him. "When she- when we both were a lot younger- she was just a foal, and I was a young adult. I was making a pile of fruits for my friend; and before I knew it, the pile was disturbed. I kept an eye out, and caught her with her mouth around an apple, about to steal it!" He laughed; the look on her face was still imprinted in his mind.

Irene thoughtfully began to nibble on her bottom lip, trying to imagine the scene Kaali had described to her, she just couldn't imagine her Mother stealing food from an older Pegasus. "Really? I never thought she was the mischevious type." Shrugging her small shoulders with an untroubled look, she started to poke her hoof into the tufts of grass as she mulled over what to ask next. Talking about Friahna was all well, but this little foal wasn't entirely interested in facts about her, she was more concerned about her Father and who he was. "Kaali . . .would you be able to find out who my Father is? I would ask Friahna myself, but it might arouse suspicion with Adelaide and Narlen. You see, I want to ask him some very important things in private without those two mustling in." She continued to widen her eyes, the colour of her eyes glistening in the sunlight. If Kaali wasn't going to agree to her proposition, she might aswell start making herself as adorable as can be to butter him up.

Kaali was taken aback by the foal's opinion on her mother; but not as much as when she asked him to find out about her father. He gave an awkward little laugh. "I, uh. I'm not going to mis-lead Friahna; and if she wanted me to know she would have told me. But, I can play with Adelaide and Narlen for a bit, so you can ask in private...?" That was the best he was going to offer; he respected Friahna; and until she fell pregnant, they'd had some good times together. Actually, we spent so much time together, I'm surprised she fell pregnant with anyone's foals in the first place... Kaali frowned slightly; wishing again he knew how it happened. For a grown male not to know was... Embarressing.
