Many have crossed through this seeming "Neutral Territory" but not many have come away from the wood. It maybe neutral to the different packs and civilizations, but dangers are still clearly seen. Many rivers cross, and a large lake sits within the middle, it is the perfect habitat for animals to thrive, but that also means there are predators close behind.

Jack walked cautiously through the forest. He had been sent there to check on some unsubstantiated reports of lycans. Since this was merely a scouting mission, Jack only had his crossbow and his sword with him. Seems like werewolf territory. He thought. In Jack’s years of service to the Order he noticed a few congruencies in werewolf dens. They were always in a temperate climate and far away from civilization. This naturally made Jack’s job difficult travel wise, but the work of the lord was never easy. Jacks duster jacket moved in the slight breeze. He spotted a flash of white out of the corner of his eye. In a flash he had his crossbow out and discharged into the creature behind him. There was a “Whelp” followed by a growl, and then silence. He walked over to his fallen prey. It was a white wolf, fairly young. He had shot it in the abdomen and it wasn’t mortally wounded. It growled at him on the ground. “I have no quarrel with you, just the abominations that are our joined cousins.” Jack quickly removed the arrow. The creature growled and ran away from Jack. He smiled then continued to angle through the trees.

He knew to hide in the foliage when some strange scent entered his nose. Ruusk was in no mood to fight at the moment. His werewolf form blended well with the foliage, that is if he could keep perfectly still. Who...who was this that entered in such garments?

The 'pilk' of the arrow entering the white wolf's body angered him. The animal had done no harm; was just a beast. It was hard to keep in that instinctive, low, groaning growl that wanted to bubble from his fangs. But he knew it was for his own benefit. This was a hunter.

God's work? He knew very little about werewolf hunters, but knew that they thought they were doing "God's work." Shouldn't this God love all his children, even if they have the spirit of wolf within them? He pondered that for a moment. Wasn't his fault he was like this. Besides, was it not this holy hunter who would even shoot at a baby, be the babe something considered evil? Religion made no sense to him, so he pushed it from his mind.

So instead, he just watched. Waited. Wanted to know more about how this hunter moved, thought, spoke. Best be careful though. One wrong move and this could turn into a deadly confrontation. This time, he didn't have the protection of his pack.

Jack sat down on a log and took a drink from his canteen. Jack felt restless, like he was being watched. If there was a pack here Jack would have to run. Jack's current ammo was good for one-on-one duels. Not a whole pack. Jack was almost sure werewolves were or have been in this area. "God has given me the power to sense you demon! Show yourself!"
This was a trick Jack learned while on duty. Werewolves were vain, unless it's a smart werewolf, it would take a direct challenge without a thought. If it was a pack, Jack would be running or dead right now. If it was a smart werewolf, it would wait. Jack sat patiently on his log and waited for the threat to reveal itself.

Tsuki watched from where she hid in the safety the guarded her in shadows of an ancient tree. She watched and observed the human with mild curiousity. The wolfess less a long sadistic grin carve itself onto her face as she kept still, crouching and waiting.

Two scents in his nose now. One human...one unfamiliar female werewolf. The fur on the nape of his neck bristled slightly. There was definite danger now. Ruusk was not sure how quite to think this through.

Run away? Fight? He knew that if he did fight the hunter, he would surely be injured badly. And if he won, what? Would this strange werewolf take advantage and become agressive? No. Neither way would work.

His eyes grew intense as he became ready to leap out. Okay hunter. Wolfess. Make your moves. I'm ready for you.

Jack stood up. He may not have had heightened senses but he knew when he was being watched. He drew his bow and had it armed in a plit of a second. Ready to discharge it at the mere suggestion of an attack. " I am the hammer of god. He will not let me fall astray." He prayed under his breath. The words of his god giving him a sense of power. " I am ready demon, show yourself."

Instead of bounding into the open, Ruusk bounded to the left. The trees would provide protection. He was fast on all fours, always keeping an eye on the hunter. Perhaps, if he kept this up, he would lose interest and move along.

Jack heard it. It bounded to his right. He imediately turned and pointed his weapon. He wasn't going to fire until he could see the beast. Something like a crossbow took to long to reload. Jack then wondered if it was even a werewolf at all. He shook the idea out of his mind. A wolf didn't move that fast. Jack listened intently, something was here and he was going to get it.

He kept up the dodging and weaving for a moment before hiding behind a huge pine. Damn. He's not going to leave. Perhaps he should have expected that, but that was besides the point. It was time to try another tactic.

Hesitantly, he brought himself to stand in his monstrous form, sticking his snout out. Ruusk let the hunter see him. He did not growl, he did not bristle his fur. As much as he wanted to do that, he stayed calm. His eyes were almost glowing with the message he wanted to say to him.

I will not hurt you. I am not a demon. I will not hurt you.

Jack saw the beast. He restrained himself from shooting his crossbow when he noticed the werewolf's behavior. No threatening demeanor, no growling or posturing. The beast did not want to fight. This benefited Jack. A lone wolf, and Jack currently had the upperhand. " Beast! What the name of the pack that you follow?" Jack took a step toward the demon, never letting his arrow stray from pointing at his head. " And if you even hint at attacking me I will kill you in an instant."

Never. Unless he wanted the whole of his pack dead, he would never tell the hunter. Ruusk stood proud and tall, but did not move to attack.

"I am not so stupid as to tell you," came the gruff voice that accompanied the wolf form. Such a voice was helpful to mask his human one. Somehow, it was surprisingly easy to stay calm, even with an arrow pointed at his skull. "I will take that to my grave."

"I never thought you would demon. At least you creatures have a sense of honour when it comes to your own kind." Jack took another step forward, his eyes never leaving his target. " Is there anyone else here I should now about?" Jack couldn't shake the feeling that he was still being watched.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 30, 2008 9:07 pm

"...no." He would not betray the strange female's presence. Perhaps she would take this time to run off, like he would have if someone else was distracting such a hunter.

Ruusk was well aware of that arrow. "I am no demon. No more a demon than you."

Jack hated it when they said that, and all of them said it. "Only a demon evaids the eyes of god, I am his instrument. And god himself has deamed you filthy creatures as abominations. You who kill from bloodlust and steal from greed." Jack lowered the arrow to the creature's neck. " I could make your death less imediate, or do you wish to continue debating me on what is and what is not a demon?" Jack kept his cold demeanor, but inside he was laughing.
