Stupid girl.

Thambo grumbled to himself as he stalked down his well-worn path, red eyes moving constantly. Even though he was bitching inwardly, he still had to keep on the alert. He had to be able to give a full and perfect report to his mistress when he returned, and she would be disappointed with him if he said that he hadn't heard anything because he'd been sulking. Yes, disappointed wouldn't even begin to cover what she would feel. Thus, he had to keep as aware as he could while he grumbled.

And he had every right to be grumbling. He had brought his mistress a female and the entire way back she had been pushing his buttons. Luckily Xibalba had been pleased, but that meant that he had to spend countless hours with Nanako while the orange hyena pestered him about meaningless topics. He had only been thinking of the immediate benefits, rather than what it would be like to have to work with Nanako for the rest of his career. It was just... urg.

(( xd This art better shows what she's like.

Not far from where Thambo was walking, a large purple female lurked. She had been hanging around this area for some time now, looking for others with which she could perfect her skills. The last fight she had had was with two hyenas. Although they had both come off worse, they had got the better of her in that they were able to escape. As she thought of this, a deep growl radiated in her throat.

Not a day had passed where Dubwana didn't curse those two. They had lived to tell the tale, the tale of how they were able to out-smart her. It sickened her to think that that weak male and prissy female were most likely able to get on with their lives, whereas she was not. "Augh!" Frustrated, she let out a loud roar, not caring who or what may be drawn to it.

Unlike Dubwana, Thambo was not that interested in conflict. Or at least, not the physical kind. He had been in enough scuffles to satisfy any of his aggressive urges, and he found that he liked insulting other creatures more than fighting them. Creatures like Utesaji, and even his little traveling companion Nanako. Utesaji was always fun to torment, that fool. Nanako was a little harder to get – she was more intelligent than she appeared – but that made beating her in a game of insults much more rewarding. He could tell Utesaji that he was a stupid lion any day.

At the outburst, Thambo turned to look, red eyes narrowing. That had been a little too close for comfort, not to mention he didn't like the sounds that were being made by this unknown creature. It sounded aggressive. Still, he would stand his ground and see what was afoot here. Ears pressed against his head, the black hyena called, "Who's there?"

Dubwana's ears perked as she heard the voice of another. Orange-yellow eyes narrowed as she looked around, trying to spot who the voice had come from. It wasn't like her to be snuck up on, so she was determined to find whoever was out there with her.

"I'm not that difficult to spot." She called out finally, her voice laced with sarcasm. It was true, her large figure made it easy for others to spot her, which is why she prefered to sneak up on them instead. With a vicious growl still radiating in her throat, she lowered her body to the ground and started creeping in the direction from which she thought the voice had come from.

Urg, that voice didn't sound very nice, not to mention it sounded female. He hated dealing with most females, and Nanako was included in that general grouping. Females were loud and bossy, not to mention they were generally bigger than him and a lot harder to take down. He was probably better off fighting Utesaji. At least he knew where that lion would try and hit him. Fighting female hyenas was never a good idea, especially not when his patience was short.

Her voice had at least given him a clue as to where she was coming from, and he turned to look in that direction. "I still don't see you yet, though I'm waiting. Are you friend or foe?" It was always a good idea to ask. Thambo would still have time to bail if she decided to be aggressive.

At the male's question, Dubwana let out a rather sinister chuckle. "Friend? Don't be foolish. Males are pathetic little bugs that deserve to be squashed." As she called out, she lifted her head to see if she could see him yet. In the darkness of the night, she managed to spot a bright white marking. Much like how her beige ears would sometimes give her away, this male's face was lit up like a beacon. Grinning, she lowered her head once more and edged forward.

At this, Thambo raised an eyebrow. Pathetic bugs that deserved to be squashed? He should have known that it was one of these females. Females who thought that they deserved to rule the world because they were larger. She probably had no idea what it was like to use her brain instead of her physical strength. It was a pity that Xibalba was not here. Though, a lioness against a hyena would hardly be considered a real match.

The black male narrowed his eyes further, talking several careful steps backwards until his back touched the trunk of a tree. This would be a good place to hold his ground, considering she was probably going to try and jump him. "You think so? Clearly you have never met a useful male. I pity you."

Dubwana sneered, thinking she had the upper hand because of the male's seemingly careless choice of direction to back up in. With him pressed against that tree, he had very few options. "There's no such thing as a useful male." She snickered. "Unless you count their inability to realise that females are superior. In that case, they're very useful, as it means I'm able to teach many a lesson."

At the mention of pity, Dubwana let out a sinister laugh. "Oh please. You're about to get ripped in two, and you pity me? Males are such fools."

"Like I said, you've never met a useful male. Just because you've never seen something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, you know." Surely the female knew that. She was probably one of those 'I need to see it to believe it' types though, something that made him roll his eyes. There was nothing wrong with being cautious or careful, but simply denying the existence of something without thinking about it was just plain stupid. Thambo, however, didn't have the heart to tell the female.

The black and white hyena lifted his chin definitely at her comment, resisting the urge to toss his ruff. "Even if you did rip me in two, what makes you think I don't have connections? I could be a very important member of a hyena pack somewhere who would surely hunt you down if you killed me. Though I don't doubt you have skill when fighting one on one, how would you fair against say... five?"

"Tell me then, foolish male, what is your use?" Dubwana was feeling almost playful today, and so she was willing to allow this male to indulge her. After all, whatever he said about the usefulness of males would only make her laugh.

"Connections you say?" Dubwana rolled her eyes. "Only weaklings feel the need to run in packs. I could easily take on a pack of weaklings." She grinned menacingly, her fangs glistening as she salivated. "I'm more than a match for you, or any of your kind."

Thambo resisted the urge to snort. "Well, one needs both a male and female to further the population of a species." That was basic knowledge. Even if this female thought she was better than males, they were still necessary for her if she ever wanted to have pups. "And I provide information. I have connections with several groups of vultures who tell me lots of things about the goings on in this area." Which he reported to Xibalba.

"What about a lion? I'm sure in your travels you've met a few of those. I have no doubt that would be a formidable foe in a fight versus others of your own kind, but what of other, larger species?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 03, 2008 4:01 am

Dubwana once again rolled her eyes. "Do I look like the motherly kind? Pups are merely another sign of weakness." She grinned wickedly. "Pregnant females of any species are much easier to bring down. I would never subject my body to such a vile thing." As the male went on, the large female's prediction of laughter came true. "Oooh, so you provide information?" She replied with a sarcastic snicker. "That's very useful."

What he said next though wiped the smile right off Dubwana's face. Despite her freakishly large size, she had never had the guts to take on a lion. She could be stubborn and head-strong at times, but she wasn't completely stupid. Growling, she snapped at the male. "I don't see any lions around here, do you? One move and I could snap your neck in two, then what?!" The purple female was clearly furious.

Ah, so pups were merely a sign of weakness? He should have known. "One does not have to be the mothering kind to have pups. They could simply do it out of duty or desire to have a pack of their own blood, nothing more." Though he was a male and thus had no mothering instinct whatsoever, Thambo was interested in father pups for his own personal benefit. His blood would become spies for his mistress, and thus further the network in more ways than he could alone. It was a very tempting idea. "It would depend on who wants the information," Thambo replied easily, not bothered by her sarcasm. He knew he worth to his mistress.

"Then my mistress would hunt you down." The male could not help but grin at the words, despite the fact that they involved his potential death. "You see, my mother left me at the mercy of a lioness, but she took pity on me and raised me to be hers and hers alone. If you were to snap me in two, the vultures would know, and thus she would know who to look for when she wanted to hunt down the killer of what is hers."

Dubwana's ears were pressed firmly against her head as she seethed, furious that this male was getting the better of her with words. Her temper had always been one of her many major flaws, as her anger practically blinded her when it came to a fight. In an effort to calm herself, she let out a loud roar and stamped one foot on the ground before raking it through the dirt. She was like a bull ready to charge.

"Have you never thought that she may just be using you?" She spat. "Males being males, they're easy to control, easy to decieve. You're not even an equal in your own species, let alone in the eyes of another." Dubwana struggled when it came to fighting with words, as her temper continued to make her blood boil to a point where she began to develop a headache.

The sounds that this strange female made had Thambo's fur on end, but he refused to budge. It would be unwise, at this point, to run away for she would surely chase him. She was ready to move at any second, and thus she would have the advantage when it came down to who would catch who. If she charged, however, and she missed, he would have the advantage and could probably get away. He would just have to bide his time and see how things would play out.

He tilted his head when she said that his mistress might be using him, before chuckling softly. "And if she is? If I am being used and I am alright with being used then nobody is at fault. She makes sure I am well fed and protected, and I make sure she knows what she wants. It really is a very beneficial alliance, for the user or the one being used, wouldn't you say?" Thambo already knew he was not an equal to Xibalba. She was special. Her blue lion pet on the other hand was lower than the dirt on the ground.
