I've been taking back a couple times on what makes Sora and Riku so perfect together. Whenever I see pictures of them, my heart flutters. Sometimes when I read fanfiction, I'm brought to the point of tears because it's just so perfect.
But why? A lot of other yaoi couple, I really had to ease into. Like Leon And Cloud weren't always a match made in heaven for me, etc. etc.
The only conclusion I can draw is the oh so famous "opposites attract". While Riku is off being the sexy bishi with a calm, cool attitude, silent and strong type, Sora's being a big goofball and flashing off his trade mark grin.
But what else can you see that makes them completely destined to be together?

I... Don't know why I'm drawn to certain Yaoi couplings. I just... Am. Some yaoi couples look either totally KAWAII (Like Sora x Riku) together, and others are just the secks. I like the KAWAII type more, though.
I like Sora x Riku because... Well... I don't know why. KeaLe turned me on to it. <3

It's a perfect couple because they are both great guys. This isn't like normal couples that people create where they are ONLY really good as a couple, OR where one is the focus of the relationship and you simply want to see that person happy with whoever.
Riku and Sora are two of Square's greatest characters. Anyone would be lucky to be with either boy. There are few downfalls to being with either because both were created to be practically perfect. They are both the personifications of what people want heroes to be. (Riku made some mistakes, but it is who he BECAME that matters.) Therefore, if they are both together, they can both be looked at as strong individuals who create the perfect couple.
Pretend you were in Kairi's position. Sora travels everywhere and does everything he can, no matter what the odds, to find you. He will even do so if it means turning into a Heartless. Riku finds you early on, protects your body, and desperately searches for your heart even at the cost of his own soul. Both are good friends who stop at nothing to reach their goal.

Yes, but that says nothing about the connection to -eachother- that makes them a good couple.

KeaLe the Yaoi God Yes, but that says nothing about the connection to -eachother- that makes them a good couple. That was kind of the point for me. I'm tired of Square characters who only carve an existance through being with another character. And it happens a great deal in those games. But when it comes to each other, it would appear to be mutual interest to do all that is good. They both want the same things, they both practially share a heart. They may go about things in different ways, but they know each other better than anyone else could know them. And they balance each other out so well that where one weakens, the other grows stronger until they can stand on equal footing again. I've noticed that with a lot of fics or fanart, people have to find a way to ease other Square characters into their roles when it comes to couples. But with Riku and Sora it's already believable because the players picked up on their rivalry as well as their mutual understanding.

I think this couple is the best because they kinda complete each other. Sora has all the goofiness and Riku calms him down with his "icy chill" temperment. Riku acts more mature than his age, and it seems like Sora should be five whee But always in a good way ( he's just too cute xd ) Now with the hotness. Sora has a child-like demeanor which makes him appealing to the kid somewhere deep, deep, deep (still goin' ) deep inside Riku. And that's what makes him so appealing to us, the viewers, too. Riku has the smexy "I'll save you if it kills me" thing about him, and that to me is the very epitome of hotness. He's like the big protective blankie you can run to and cry with ( or at, because I don't think Riku cries... sweatdrop ) They are the exact opposite and complete each other. You have to take everything in balance, which is exactly what their relationship has. That is why they make such a awesome couple.
Course... it doesn't hurt that they are both the smexiest guys Squaresoft could ever make 4laugh which I totally kiss their shoes for. *claws at pant legs of the Squaresoft people*

I agree with Stion. They just seem to "fit", in that oddly perfect way. Like, they could be two halves of one whole...
Plus, they've got a history together. They've been best friends ever since they were little. What's the saying? "Friends make the best boyfriends"? Their shared past creates a bond, kind of a passion, I guess. And of course, everyone knows what passion can lead to...

Hmn. Okay...where to start..?
Let's start with the fact that they've been best friends since they were little. They've had a very long time to get to know each other, their likes and dislikes, and such. They also know each others personalities well.
Next, we'll move to the fact that they always get along. Although they fight in Kingdom Hearts, that is because Riku was slowing being devoured by the darkness. If Maleficent would have never stuck her nose where it didn't belong, none of that would have happened and they would have remained friends. They wouldn't have a reason to quarrel.
Now, moving on to the Paopu incident. Riku threw a paopu fruit to Sora, then explained how it is rumored to function. Perhaps he wanted Sora to have to first half? Perhaps he was just using it as a hint that he loved Sora? All ways, it points to the same thing.
I believe these three points should answer the 'Why So Perfect?' question.

Ah, I'm afraid I have to disagree with a couple things Stion said. D: Stion I think this couple is the best because they kinda complete each other. Sora has all the goofiness and Riku calms him down with his "icy chill" temperment. Wait, 'icy chill'? Hmmm...I don't know...When you say 'icy chill', it makes me think of someone with a personality like Squall or Cloud...Not so much Riku. I'd say that he tries to come across as somewhat aloof, but I don't think that's his true personality. Take a look at the 'Sora's Memories of Riku' cutscene in Final Mix. It shows a smaller Riku and Sora sitting on the dock, and Riku is supposedly telling Sora a joke. (At least, that's what it looks like to me. ^^) It also has a scene of fifteen-year-old Riku hooking his arm around Sora's neck, and pulling him into an affectionate headlock. Every time I watch that cutscene, I can't help help but stare at the broad smiles on both boys' faces. They just look so happy and carefree...Judging on that, I just can't believe that Riku has a cold demeanor. =/ Stion Riku acts more mature than his age, Probably because he sees himself as Sora's main role model, and he wants to impress him by acting like an adult. (Lol, that's the way I've always interpreted his behavior, at least. ^^; ) Stion Riku has the smexy "I'll save you if it kills me" thing about him, 'I'll save you if it kills me'? Hmmm...Perhaps if the person he had to save was someone like Kairi, but I don't think he would hesitate for even a moment if Sora was the one in danger... >.> <.< Stion He's like the big protective blankie you can run to and cry with I agree with that. :3 Riku probably wants nothing more than to hold Sora in his arms and console him if something goes wrong. I have a feeling that that ties into the whole 'mentor/role model' thing. Or maybe he just wants Sora's attention. Lol. XD; Stion ( or at, because I don't think Riku cries... sweatdrop ) While Riku really doesn't like to show his weaknesses, I very highly doubt that he doesn't cry, simply because it's pretty much impossible to do. Everyone in the world experiences sadness, and the body's reaction to that particular emotion is to produce tears and cry. No one is excluded from that. (Not even cocky, arrogant, silver-haired fifteen-year-olds with crushes on their best friends. wink ) Stion They are the exact opposite and complete each other. Opposites? Eh...I don't know. I sot of see them as foils of each other. Riku's main role in the game (as much as we hate to admit it D smile , is the antagonist. Both he and Sora have the same ideals and goals, but because Sora is the hero, Square exploits Riku's faults, and they wind up as enemies ( gonk ). Does that make sense? =/

Very nice analysis. Although we must also note that Riku and Sora are opposites in the sense of the storyline. The protagonist and the antagonist. Other than that, they do have quite a few similarities.
Kairi being with either one of them wouldn't do very well. Along with the whole concept of her characters being very hollow in the storyline, she seems to not have that much of a personality that is very compatible with the situation of the story. She couldn't serve a signifacant position in the storyline unless she would have had her heart stolen. She wouldn't be able to tag along with Sora. They couldn't let Riku tag along, so why would Kairi be able to? She wouldn't be able to stay with Riku either, because she would try to keep Riku from going all... darkness-controlling-psycho like, and that would interfer with Malificent's plot, therefore causing her inevitable death. 3nodding
In that sense, the only possible combination during the whole...evil plot o' the Disney characters. The only way they could keep her alive would be to get her heart stolen.
(( Wow...that kinda went off topic-ish, but I still established a good point ))
