After the crushing disappointments which were the BAFTA nominations and the RTS Awards comes another glimmer of hope...
Doctor Who has been nominated not once, but twice in the Best Dramatic Presentation - Short Form category at this year's Hugo awards. Blink by Steven Moffat and Human Nature/The Family Of Blood by Paul Cornell are up!
And Torchwood also gets a nod! It's up in the same category for Captain Jack Harkness by Cath Tregenna.
The other nominees are Battlestar Galactica - Razor and Star Trek New Voyages - World Enough and Time.
This is the third year in a row that Steven Moffat has been nominated and the second time for Paul Cornell. Moffat has won both of the other ones he was nominated for, so here's hoping!
Best of luck to all nominees. The results will be announced in August at Denvention 3 in Denver, Colorado.

Hehe, good to see Treganna gets a nomination, but I still think Moffat should win. His stories are always brilliant. I wouldn't mind him losing to Cornell, though. That two parter was good. 3nodding

I'm not sure which I want to win!
I like Human Nature more...
But then again...it already got enough bouquets of flowers thrown at it in adulation back when it was a novel, so perhaps I'd rather see this go to Moffat's original story...
But then again, Moffat's already got a Hugo and I've been a Cornell fan for so long that I'd love to see him win something big...
But then again, Moffat won a Hugo for his contribution to Season One and another for his contribution to Season Two. How great would it be to see him make it three in a row?
But then again, RTD freely admits he stole the style of Welsh Who from Cornell's books, so he needs some sort of hefty acknoweldgement to reward him for being the new series' real creator. wink

And now there's some more BAFTA nominations coming Who's way... http://www.bafta.org/awards/television-craft/television-craft-nominations-in-2008,363,BA.html
The 'Craft' awards are the BAFTAs for behind-the-scenes talent and there's nods this year for Murray Gold's music, Stephen Moffat's script, the sound production, and the visual effects. smile
(Should we think about having an 'Awards' sticky for all these sort of things?)

rofl That awards sticky is starting to sound better and better... we've got two-four threads at a time right now, I think. xD
Murray Gold should definitely get the award for the music.. it was ten times better than last year and last year was brilliant. I'm just gonna go ahead and root for Who all the way since I have no idea what it's up against. mrgreen

3nodding That's why I thought I'd mention this crop of BAFTAs here rather than start a new thread (Hope that's okay TB!)
I'm nicely unconflicted on this one and cheering Who on across the board, since it's nominated in different categories from the other stuff I'm rooting for (okay, mostly just Skins again smile ).

Hey, tennantsbutterfly - I went ahead and created a sticky with the Hugo and BAFTA nominations listed.. it's basic, really, but you feel free to do whatever you want to it. 3nodding
I also have two posts saved; I figure one can be for who wins, the other for picture/video links or something. Also, I only put down DW, TW, and SJA nominations; not what they're up against... it's a lot there already. xD
After the first three or so posts, it can just be like a giant discussion thread. ^^

You're so helpful around here that I completely didn't realize it! whee Well, how about you post the stuff there and I'll add it, or one of the other mods can get poked into doing it.. I have no idea about UK awards shows, and this is the first year that Doctor Who was nominated for best Sci-fi show in a long time (Lost out to either Stargate or BG.. )
