Hey you...

strawberry then wanted a watermelon.

"But Wolfy, what is the point of all this?"
Rest assured, folks, there is a point! Very sharp and pointy, point, to be
exact. : D
Of course we've all read the BJ series, the question I pose to you all, is
have you read any books with a similar theme? : ) I'm an avid reader
and always looking for good titles, so please, post some. smile

Piratey/Strong Female leads:
Piratica
Pyrate
Song of the Lioness Series by Tamora Pierce
Protector of the Small Series by Tamora Pierce

Ooh, I love Piratica! My sister had me read it and then I was so happy to see that there was another. (Not that I've actually read it yet, mind).

One that I can advise against is Pirates!. Ech. Sorry if anyone likes it, but I did not. It went absolutely no where and I thought the main character was rather pathetic and not in a redeeming way.

*runs to her bookcase*

Okay, here's a long list for you, and a bit of explanation for some I feel need it:

The Immortals Quartet by Tamora Pierce (You probably know this one already, but the main character is a bit squishy)
Witch Child & Sorceress, the sequel, by Celia Rees (A witch in colonial U.S.; the sequel is a bit wonky, but the series is very good)
Tithe by Holly Black (Lots of people are talking about this one, and I really enjoy it because I love the real faerytales; it's very good! I haven't read the sequel though, and Valiant, the other book (series?) by Holly Black has a sort of wishy-washy character as well)
AVP: Prey by Steve & Stephani Perry (Written by a father-daughter team, it's very good as well, though I don't reccomend the sequel: the main character's personality gets messed up by the other author. And yes, I am an extreme geek, thank you very much. whee )
The Blue Girl by Charles de Lint (Another modern faerie tale, but this one has another wonderfully strong protaginist. : D ...I have kind of a fairytale hint if you can't tell)
The Changeover by Margaret Mahy (Kind of hard to find... Well actually, extremely hard to find. It's published in New Zealand, Australia, and the U.K., last I checked. : D But it's a very good tale that involves witches, magic, youth-stealing monsters, and a girl taking care of her little brother. It's great!)
Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill (A fairly new series ((The Icemark Series- I actually haven't read any of the other books)), but this first book is very good. Set in someplace far north with magic, knoweledge, the Oak King & His Brother, Talking Snow Leopards, and Veni Vidi Vici ; ) It's a good, rip-roaring read)
The Folk Keeper by Franny Billingsley [I may have spelled that name wrong. sweatdrop ] (I admit, it has sort of a low reading level, and the main character suddenly turns into a swooning heroine towards the end, but a worthwhile read, indeed! It has a captivating plot with orphans, lies & deciet, plots & pride, cross-dressing ((in a good way- as if there's a bad way! ; ))), and the mysterious and vicious Folk. And a boy who sails and builds boats! : DD)

I also know of plenty of books that cater to any specific lead, type of coupling, subject, reading level, and maturity level. : DD

...

Yes, I do realize I read far too much.

But, may I ask- What are the books Piratica & Pyrate about (besides the obvious)? And who, pray tell, are/were they written by?

And just to put in my two cents and be contrary, Pirates! by Celia Rees (if you feel dubious about Witch Child now, don't. The main characters' personalities are infinitely different) is a good book if you are 11 or even 12 and trying to get into historical fiction or slightly more difficult books. I know I enjoyed it when I first read it, but I did hate how it just left off at the end.

But anyways, do please ask if you have any questions about the books I reccomended. : DDD

I have no classes with friends, so there's really nothing better to do.

And it helps that I'm just a regular ol' bookworm. : P

All of those books (except Pirates!) sound interesting.

I have to read The bloody Chosen by Mr. bloody Chaim Potok and all next year i will be reading the most bloody boring books (thanks alot shakespear...) and...

*takes calming breath*

ne wayz, if i do have time (which i probably bloody won't) what are Piratica, Pyrate, Song of the lioness, and Protector of the small beside the obvious? and is Vampirates really a book (im kinda confused... long day) because that one really does sound interesting.
