Hello! Catalina here!

My fiancee just found a place to live. He will be moving in on April 1st and I will follow with our daughter after we get married in May. Now, this will be our first time living out of the parents' house. (We decided not to live together until we're married. Yes, we already have a child together. But we still felt like that was the best choice.)

Any tips for us? Whether it's about money decisions (spending it wisely...) or things about just being on our own. I'd love some input.

I dont have much advice to offer. But when you pack, label your stuff so you know what is the most important to unpack first. and good luck! Im sure you two will be glad to have your own place

Yeah we will be amazingly glad to have our own place! ^-^ The downside is that we probably won't have internet in the beginning.

I agree about putting labels and marking boxes with labels so you can find what you'll need most. It allows you to quickly find things and not have boxes open of things you have no need for right away.

Also keep boxes of your emergency things, like numbers of other people, health things, medication, that sort of thing. If you need them in a rush, you don't want to have to search everywhere.

Plan some easy one person meals for the first few days that don't require much effort. Usually you're pretty busy moving and packing and some easy food is very helpful I found.

I just got finished moving into a new place (yay!) and I have a few suggestions. If you're looking for boxes, don't buy them.
1- Try the liquor stores. They ALWAYS have boxes.
2- There's a website, craigslist.com, where you can find practically anything, including boxes. Just keep an eye on the list of free stuff.. boxes pop up quite frequently.

If you absolutely need to rent a truck, find one that really suits your needs. And if at all possible, rent it for only one day. The less time you have it, the cheaper it is!

CONSOLIDATE! If you already have a few boxes packed up, try to fit more into those ones. And find clever ways to save space. Like using towels you already have to wrap your dishes in.. (It worked! Nothing broke on the move.)

Cheap labor always helps, too. Got any strong friends or family members?
(We had about 5 guys that showed up to help load everything into a truck.. All we had to do was feed them.. lol

Label the boxes for sure! And pack a suitcase of things for the first few days you are moved in. That will keep you from digging for socks or a shirt in the boxes!

Most defiantly on the labeling. Tape paper or use name tags and write whats in the box on the box. Don't buy plastic boxes, they are nice, but they take up a lot of room. Get cardboard ones and throw them away afterwards. Get family to help you move stuff if possible. If you attend a church or have coworkers or someone else you know who might own a trailer see if you can borrow it instead of renting one. Get the bed set up first, I know the computer might seem the most important, but you will regret it when you are tired (this is the problem I always have, lol).
