Here's a tip with those of you whose children (or those you know) with lice/nits/cooties. Even if you have them yaself. Buy a big bottle of vodka. Cheaper is better because you don't want to waste something like Smirnoff! You have to go outside in the garden for this one, and another person, if it's you who has them sad

Grab a chair, and, whilst the kid is seated. Pour the alcohol over the child's head, or, get the person to pour the vodka over your hair. This stuns and kills the lice. Some will drop off, but others do remain, especially the eggs. So grab a comb (prefeably white) so that you can see the lice, eggs and lice poo. I know, it's disgusting isn't it? Comb ya hair until the majority have gone.

Then wash hair in unfragenced shampoo, a sensitive type shampoo will do like Simple. Add 10 drops of tea tree oil to the shampoo (for a child under 5 use only a few drops), and really, really scrub hair well. Rinse. Towel dry. Comb hair again, whilst wet. Leave to naturally dry.

You will have to continue with the tea tree shampoo for the next 5 days, or until there's no lice to be found. Make sure you, or your child, doesn't touch heads with anyone. Have seperate hair towels, and hair grooming equipment.

You can continue using the shampoo even if you don't have lice as this prevents lice from coming back and is great on greasy hair without stripping any nessecary natural hair oils.

Also it's an old wives' tale that lice thrive only in dry, clean hair. True, they thrive better, but they can also be found in greasy, dirty hair. I think this was made as an excuse for people who don't wash their hair..eeww. But, having said that, if you can help it. Don't wash ya hair everyday. Every other day is best.

Well that's definitely a different take on it. I'd not heard that one before, but it meshes close enough to the one I have heard, and tried. sad

Several years ago when Rachel was little I'd set up play dates for her and one of my bestest friends little girl. Both are the same age. But the girl had an older sister who for some reason kept getting lice.

Because of this little girl my daughter brought it home 3 times in 2 months. I was upset the first time, angry the second, and downright livid the third. The first and second times I spent about 300 bucks and treated the whole household with Rid, but the 3rd time I was broker than s**t and angry enough to insist that my friend help with the cost.

Of course she was broke too and insisted that I could treat for lice by pouring rubbing alcohol over my daughters head (getting it all saturated) and then wrapping the hair up tightly in a plastic bag for an hour. This I did, and then I washed her hair and nit picked her under a bright light for hours. That poor little girl was starting to go bald by the time I was done, but damned if I didn't get 'em all.

Whether it was because of suffocation by alcohol or sheer determination to nit pick every ******** louse out... I know not, but they were gone and we've never had another case again. Of course that was the very last time my daughter was allowed to play with her daughter.

Sorry, but fool me once shame on you, but 3 times? I needed my head examined in more ways than one. wink

So yea anywyas, back to the point... rubbing alcohol cheaper than vodka.
