Ok, I have always viewed art as my hobby, the thing I did when I was bored or stressed and such. My family and teachers have always been on me about drawing in class, yet this habit has persisted into my college years. Some teachers get upset, so I've found that if I draw the first few classes, then if the teacher gets upset about it I stop. This has worked pretty well for me thus far. My computers class is a class I took purely for an easy A, I'm highly computer literate; I built my own computer from scrap peaces, and have owned several machines that I've tampered with... Anyway, I was sitting in this class, bored and drawing, not even paying attention.. and he sees what I'm working on, and comments that it's good. I laughed and said "Not really, this one's good..." and opened a pic I had done a while back and had finished. So a few weeks later he tells me that he's got a job interview for me, and that his boss is working with a medical imaging company, and that they are looking for a student to work with them and learn these programs, both 2D/flash and 3D Maya. He asked if I was interested in getting paid to learn these programs.. YES!!! So he contacted me this week, and I'm meeting with them next week, to discuss/interview for this, and he says the projects span two years, and they would like to discuss long term opurtunities with this. I have a week to make a portfolio... *gulp*
So discuss, have you ever thought your art could be your job? Any thoughts/advice?

Well, art teacher was what I was wanting to be... despite the fact that there are NO art classes at my school... and I've never had a college art class....ever....
Ya, and that's fine... I was just confused when I didn't find it at first LOL.

Sounds like you've had a great career door opened for you! I highly suggest living and breathing that portfolio....it's one of those things that just never feels finished. Here's wishing you luck on that interview!
I actually do have a career with art. I'm a graphic designer. Where I work, we design catalogs, signage, forms, advertisements, and just about everything else for the retail store I work at. It's a very satisfying feeling to have your actual work become something real.

Congrats to You! It nice when it comes that way smile My little story. After school I didn't pass my entry exams to art university. I was very upset and didn't know to do. But suddenly on another day I was standing on the street and hardly could think. My most unreal dream came true - I started my first steps in the big world of animation. It's all doing for the good. smile
