It was late in the afternoon, and Mafunde was out hunting to help her growing family. It was amazing how quickly the cubs were growing, and she wanted to make sure that Lololi was recovering strongly. Depending just on Yanisin was not working out well, and Mafunde needed to stop being so selfish about gathering her required lavendar every day.

She had wandered far from the cave, tracking a herd for most of the day. It was hard finding a weak member, and she was still stalking them quietly trying to figure it out. Did this herd already get picked over lately? Perhaps, because it was so frusterating! Maybe she just wasn't cut out at being a very skilled hunter, but she did have to try.

Kisirani herself had been watching the herd for some time. SHe followed after them at a very leasurely pace, as it had been impossible for her to pick out a certain member that she could take down herself. She had hoped that they would lead to a crowded watering hole where she could find another herd that might prove more fruitful, but so far they seemed to just wander around in no particular fashion. The red lioness was frusterated.

She had first noticed the other lioness not too long ago, but it was obvious that the darker lady had not seen her yet. Was she ignorant, or just chose to ignore everything else around her? Sira decided that she must be a terrible hunter, or one that didn't possess great skills if she couldn't even tell that there was another lioness looking at the same herd.

Another amount of moments had passed. Finally, Mafunde noticed the other lioness. Was it because she had gotten closer to the other, or because Mafunde had finally realized just how far away from home she was? Perhaps both, perhaps neither, but none of it matters. What did matter was that she was hungry, and needed to try and bring some home too, as well.

She gingerly approached the other lioness, unsure if she would be hostile to that action or not. SHe got close enough to where she was sure that the red lioness could hear her before extending a paw. "Ummm, excuse me?" she asked softly. "Is there any chance that you might want to hunt together, to try and pull one of these down?"

Kisirani noticed that the other lioness had finally discovered that she too was following the herd. Finally, took her long enough! She waited somewhat patiently before the other finally said something.

"Yes?" she called out, letting her attention be pulled away from the herd in a show that wasn't needed. She strutted up to the other lioness with a grin, her red plet a stark contrast to the black and white one the other had. "Well, certainly, if we split what we catch. I do not need too much, no," she commented, always wanting to keep her thin figure, "but I am hungry. There's a stupid buck in there. Young, but has a hot head, he might be easy to catch if there are two of us going after him."

Mafunde smiled, happy that she accepted. "Alright," she said with a nod. She listened to the other liones spatiently, hoping to pick up a few tips as well. She looked to where the lioness motioned, her eyes scanning for that stupid buck. It took her a bit, because they all were pretty healthy, but soon enough she was able to see just what the lioness meant. "I see him."

She thought about taking a good chunk back to her family. It was early, and she had time to bring them back as well as bring back the lavendar she had already gathered. It sounded like a good play to her.

"Alright. I'll be ready when you are. I need to bring food back to my family."

Kisirani shifted a bit uncomfortably at the mentioning of family. That whole idea was jsut something that she didn't want to think about. At all. She shivered a bit, hoping that the other wouldn't notice.

"Alright. Well, that one buck is stupid, but with the rest of the herd together he'll be hard to get at. We should run at the herd in opposite directions, towards one another, and splitting the herd in half. They'll be panicked just on the fact that their numbers are so small, and we should have a moment to strike. How does that sound?" She thought it was a good plan, as long as the both of them could keep to their parts.

Mafunde was ignorant to the uncomforatable movements of the other lioness, as she was still a bit too busy digging in her thoughts about her family. They were getting older now, and much more curious about solid foods. Giving them some softer, younger meat would work well for them to gnaw on and wean off of Lololi's milk.

"Oh! Umm, yes, that sounds great, actually. I'll take the other route, just wait for me to get ready and give the signal." She didn't know what the signal would be, but she was smart enough to guess it when it came.

She hurried over to her side, ready for the signal to help start the hunt. She was nervous, working with someone else, but she knew that she would be able to do it.

Kisirani gave the signal, and she ran. It was obvious that the plan was going well, as the herd slowly began to cut into two, quickly running away from the two lions. She noticed that the buck they had signalled for ran with the smaller of the two groups. Perfect.

Kisirani cut to the left, following the herd. She noticed that the other lioness did as well, chasing some of the stragglers until they cut away from the herd. It was now down to 4 preybeasts. Ther buck was still there, though, which was good.

Her plan was going quite well, and the red lioness couldn't help but feel proud of herself.

Mafunde listened to the commands well. It seemed like the red lioness knew what she was doing, and the dark lioness didn't mind listening to her. Mafunde wasn't strong in hunting, especially if there wasn't an obvious weak prey in a herd.

As she was running, though, she noticed that the lavendar she had gathered earlier that was tied around her neck began to slip. Panic flooded throughout her body, as she knew that she wouldn't have time to gather any more lavendar before the end of the day as well as bring home the meat that she could carry.

She stumbled as she shoved it back tightly into it's holding area, knowing that she screwed up her half of the hunt.

Kisirani had no idea what had happened to the other lioness, but she was frusterated that she screwed up. Hunting wasn't easy! She quickly was able to catch up to the buck and take him down with one swift movement.

After she felt the crash of her and the beast on the ground, fatigue hit her like she was the one being taken down. She clung onto the wriggling buck for all she was worth, only daring to move herself when she felt the last breathe escape from her prey.

At least the other lioness didn't botch the hunt. If that happened, she would of been furious.

She patiently waited for the other to catch up to her. She had no desire to not share with her, for Kisirani couldn't eat the whole thing anyway, and it was better for a lion to eat it than a stinky vulture.

Mafunde stumbled towards the other lioness, embarassed. SHe felt like she had totally screwed up the hunt, and all because she was scared that she was going to lose the lavendar. To her, though, it did mean more than food. It meant forgiveness, and her life.

She dropped her head as she neared the other lioness, feeling very apologetic. "I'm sorry," she said hoping that the other wouldn't want to bite her head right off. She did screw up the hunt, regardless of how you looked at it.

She hoped that she wouldn't ever fail like this again, especially as it meant eating or not eating.

Kisirani shrugged, her maw still wet with blood. Her red coat covered the colour, but it was obvious that she was the one who caught the buck and made the kill.

"Perhaps you did mess up, but in the end, it still would of been impossible for me to make the kill. I wouldn't hav been able to split the herd by myself, and in that, as well as tiring him out, we were able to make the kill." She waved her paw like it was no real big deal.

"Besides, I can't eat all of this! I am far from a glutton." Far from it indeed, and she didn't want to act like a selfish hippo if she could help it.

Mafunde bobbed her head again. "Yes, well. That's very kind, but I'm still sorry for failing."

She thought again about the lavendar. It was very precious, but at least the other didn't seem to notice, or care that much. She waited patiently for the other to begin eating, so she could take whatever she could carry home.

Mafunde was very tempted to eat a little before she went. With another thought, maybe she would. She could eat to just before her fill, and then there would be more for her family once she returned home. It would just be a long trip home.

Kisirani waited a moment, listening to the other lioness. So kind! Perhaps even too kind, since she would be quite easy to step on. Kisirani could of easily deemed the other to not get any of the share, and send her along her way, knowing that she would listen. How odd. SHe shook her head, picking at the buck to split him as best she could and offer whatever larger portion to the black and white lioness.

"A name?" she said, nudging the carcass towards the other. Not that Kisirani might actually see her again, but it would be simple and kind enough to at least ask for a name. Who know what the future held, and she might run into this lioness again.

Mafunde was flattered, and greatfully took the carcass. She quickly ate what she could, making sure that she didn't dirty the lavendar around her throat. It was exactly what she needed, something of a fully belly to take the food home to her sister and cubs.

"Oh! My name is Mafunde," she said, surprised but pleased. "I thank you again, this will help to feed my family tonight, once I get it home."
