This was a thread on another guild that i was going to carry over to here to see what you guys thought about it. Personally i think they -are- real, just not everyone who claims they are... really -are-, and it's tough to decipher for a few. The thread on the other guild said about Otherkin (being animals) and what not. I researched a little and found the site http://www.otherkin.net - Now i might just be crazy (which is totally possible) But I'm a fae. *sighs and waits* Now i've been awakened. I know about things and i forgot somethings, switching planes and what not. But i really don't think that absolutely everyone is an otherkin. I'm sure this will spark fire.... buuut, yeah. I could go on forever but i'll hold that back til i hear what everyone else thinks about otherkin on here. ~Ed

I don't think that you're crazy, but what do you mean exactly when you say that you're a fae? And how did you come to that conclusion? When you say that you're switching planes are you talking about astral projection or an alteration of perception/consciousness? I scanned over the website and read the intro a bit, but I'm just curious, because I've heard of this before but have never had the chance to talk to anyone personally about it.

Personally, I think it's crap. That probably isn't the best way to put it... I think it's possible for your soul to have been an otherkin in a past life, because there are different planes/worlds/dimensions/whatever you wanna call them... you know, why should our souls be stuck in only this dimension? Anyway, basically I think it's possible to have been one in a past life, but that it's not possible for you to be one physically if you're a human. If you're human, you're human. Does that make sense? Here's the url to an old thread on this subject... http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=11415917

Yeah, I mean, I think it's possible to have a spirit like a fae, but if you were a fae then you wouldn't be in a human form. It's really a simple concept. Personally I think that they live in a world parallel to our own and don't manifest and live in human bodies. I don't think that they go through a life/death process like we do on earth. I do think that it's possible that you may have been closer to that realm in some way in a past life or in passing over to your new one, but either way you are a human here and now. If you were a fae you would have the knowledge of one. I would still like to hear your explanation on this though.

Don't think that. Just like with everything else in life, there are some people who believe it and others who don't. And I know that there's plenty of people in this guild who do believe it and believe that they are otherkins as well.
But you need to be willing to hear both sides of it.
It's a cool idea, yes... but, I just can't bring myself to believe it.

I think if being an otherkin resonates with you, that is all that is important. I haven't really looked into it much myself, though I have heard the word before, so I can't really give an opinion, but if it seems right to you than it is right for you smile

I think the concept of Otherkin, at least the way it was explained to me, is like this:
If your soul started out on this planet, as human, no matter what planet or plane you travel to, the soul inside is still humanoid. If, however, your soul started out on a planet where their 'people' were Fae, or Dragons, or whatever, then your soul is more like that. Through death and rebirth, we then travel the planets and planes, experiencing life as others not of our beginning.
Sometimes, just like remembering past lives, your soul then remembers it's starting form, and perhaps longs to return to it's birth planet and plane. Perhaps from simple melancholy, perhaps from a desire to close the loop.
At least, that was the way it was explained to me, and it made sense. I mean, just like it's kind of full of ourselves to believe in this vast universe with it's limitless possible planes, humans are the only intelligent life form out there, I find it is also full of ourselves to think all souls start out humanoid, or that all souls reincarnate to their own world or own plane.
Personal opinion there folks.

Similar to Phoenix's concept, here's the one I've taken to. (I think this is also in the thread Maggie posted...) (Oh, lookie, I found my old post... XD ) StrawberryDaifuku I remember having this discussion in another guild of mine, and the theory everyone came up with (and also the point of most of these post here summed up) is the following: Souls are not species/organism/creature specific, but just exist. (It's up to the beliefs of the individual as to how these souls came into existance, but thats aside the point.) The term "otherkin", in this sense, refers to the feelings of the soul in accordance with past lives. Like Ich bin Nackt stated, if a soul has spent most of its lives as a certain organism, the soul will "mold" itself, per say, to that organism's traits, behaviors, etc. When that soul begins life in a different body than their previous lives, it's not used to having that kind of a lifestyle, and may feel more comfortable in the previous body, resulting in a sense of otherkinship as that creature. In this sense, a soul is like an extremely viscus liquid that needs time to adjust to a new shell. Or... something like that. That was our conclusion... XD

I was just wondering how you came to that conclusion. Because it seems really interesting...I just want more details..

Hm. Well I dont exactly believe you are Fae...that's pretty much impossible. However, I think maybe even though you yourself are not Fae, you may have been Fae in your past life or you have Fae ancestory. I have faerie ancestory--it's distant, but it's there--but I dont claim to be Faerie. Im purely human, nothing else.

Ok, hearing those explanations of otherkin is ringing bells in my head. it sounds similar to another term I have heard; "starseed". Either way I do believe that your soul can have a large imprint on it of it's first life. I don't think Otherkin people (and I could be wrong) think they are actually fae for example, obviously their physical body is human or else they would not be typing in the forums right now. But I do believe that your soul can feel like it is something else, be something else.

Again, going off the description I was given, the soul remembers it's starting form, or what they tend to call "true form". This is where I disagree with the concept, because I have my own opinions of 'true' soul forms, and personally, light has no shape. so...
Anyways... they remember their "true form", and for an example, we'll use a phoenix, and we'll use me! (that way, I'm only picking on myself razz )
So I remember my soul's 'true form' as a 'phoenix'... this means I actually feel like I actually have wings somewhere on my body... I feel hot alot of the time... etc. ( "dragon otherkin" feel horns on their head, You get the picture).
Now, the basic belief, if I was told right is this: I feel that I -am- a phoenix, because that is my soul's "true form" and therefore I am -trapt- in this human body. Some also express a desire to "go home" to the planet of plane they first came from.
Do I believe it is possible? Certainly. In my religion I fully believe that fairies and dragons and all kinds of other critters are out there, somewhere, disgusted with the way they were once treated by the human race, and now hiding, either out of fear for their lives, or anger at us... But they are out there. I also think it's fairly possible that, the souls of those who were killed by human hands, or died of their wounds might find it entertaining to reincarnate as a human, in an attempt to learn more about us... to either better understand, or eventually better destroy.
Anything is possible, though probability comes into play to change things. Still, back when I was talking to people about Otherkins, learning about them... they numbered very few. I'm not sure what their numbers are now. I know that the ones I spoke with had to fend off a large group of people who thought it was a "role-play" thing, and I'm certain that idea is still out there. Given the low percent of the people who had claimed it when I was studying it... I could see it as a probability.

I've always wanted to be a little more than human, but that's not otherkin, just my one fantasies of adventure rofl On the otherkin topic though, it's peaches own in my opinion. Just don't do something stupid to prove it.
