So, I finally caved and bought hair henna at lush today. Caca Marron is the color, it's supposed to be a subtle deep red. I don't want to go straight from dark brown to fiery red. [:

Many pictures to come and keep your fingers crossed. This will hopefully come out good!

(Once this is mixed and applied, it's supposed to sit for 3-6 hours)

Four hours and a half-hour of rinsing later I'm feeling worried that the color didn't take. Even though my hair is still wet and dark looking. I think there's some lightness at the crown of my head.

The best color supposedly comes in a few days later. Hopefully when I wake up in the morning it will look good!

oops. forgot about this thread. sweatdrop

This is a before:

User Image

And this is the after.

User Image

This was the first time I did henna and the result was more of a burgundy HUE than any actual red. I've applied henna to my hair about 4 or 5 more times since then and my hair is much more red, especially with the highlights. They're like strands of copper-red in the sun.

The best thing about it is that the color builds up (and fades) naturally the more you use it. I'm not so concerned with having red-red hair anymore. I like how it conditions my hair and the way it smells, and it makes for a good way to spend a rainy day.

I'll take a newer pic in the next day or so, so you guys can see the difference that several applications makes.

I've tried Henna once, but the color didn't take at all. I think I would have to leave it in for almost 5 hours to darken my hair. So maybe I'll try again, but I've also heard of vegetable based hair dies, I want to look into that again.

Mixing it with an acid like lemon juice or vinegar is supposed to help the color adhere to your hair.

Is the henna permanent or is it temporary?

It's temporary, but it lasts a long time. Henna is great because it fades naturally so you don't get root lines or anything. Also the more you use it, the more the color builds up in your hair.

I know this thread is old but but

I've been trying to look for a good brand to buy, and all the henna hair dye sites look so cheesy. This might make me a terrible person, but I don't trust cheesy websites enough to buy anything from them lol. So I think I've finally decided to try buying from here. I can't wait to give it a shot biggrin I've heard for some people their hair has been tinted green so... eeeek.

The green tends to come from using metal while mixing the henna. Stick to ceramic, wood, or plastic. The metal will react to the henna and cause that greenish tint.

Mountain Rose Herbs is an A+ site.

Does this kind of hair dye damage your hair? If not, i may be able to talk my parents into letting me use it! =D

it doesn't damage the hair, because you're not using chemicals to bleach or strip the hair.

The lush brand combines the henna with cocoa butter, so you get some natural conditioning while it colors.

Yes, my hair went green. -_-"

In patches.

Since I was working as front desk, I needed to remedy it which cost $200 (discount) and about four hours at the salon.

Lush sells it in blocks, right? I just remember having a thick mass of mud in my hair when I dyed it. I might give it a go again since I detest my hair colour.

They sell it in blocks, that you then grate and melt and combine with water to make a mud like substance to apply to your hair.

I've also heard of it reacting with chemically treated hair. You should read the Caca Faq on the lush forums.
