Loon pouted, glaring toward the ducks that glided across the lake. He was soaked to the bone and nursing his hurt pride. Apparently trying to walk on the water like the ducks was a bad idea. The young bobtail had put one paw out and fallen in with a startled yelp. Luckily, he'd been able to free himself, but now he was looking for someone else to test the water. Maybe everyone else could walk on the water and he just didn't know how to.. Hmm, who to ask?

Please stab my heart...
Gunner stood on a green bench, his paws planted on the back and holding him upright. As his tail wagged his whole body went with it and his whole head moved with the yips of his barks.
He was barking at the ducks of course, trying to get them to pay attention to him. They just swam by, not giving him a second glance. One time a ducking stopped and turned, but was soon herded along by it's mother.
Why didn't they want to be his friend? He thought he was rather friendly, and fun too! But maybe they just didn't see that.... maybe they didn't know how to have fun! How horrible that would've been; not knowing how to have fun. He would surely rather stick his head in a stinky shoe.

Ears pricked at the barking, and Loon lifted his head to watch Gunner. Hmm... His mother had told him to stay away from dogs, but certaintly she hadn't meant this dog. After all, the puppy was just a bit bigger than him. What harm could there be? The young cat climbed to his feet and gave a strong shake. Then, with fuzzy hair still dripping, he bounded over to leap onto the bench, smiling at Gunner. "Hey, what'cha doing?" This pup would help him out, right?

Gunner paused and flicked his ear as he heard a voice, plopping down to look at the black kitten. He certainly seemed friendly, maybe he would have more luck than he did trying to make friends with the ducks.
"I'm just tryin' to make friends, but the ducks don't seem to like me too much..." He pulled a face, then grinned. "Why are you all wet?" He giggled, poking the kittens soaked ear.

Loon flicked his ear, giving an embarrased grin. "I tried to walk on the water like the ducks and fell in. Can you walk on the water?" The kitten asked curiously, smiling. "And I can be your friend if the ducks won't." Mother would be mad if she found out later, but frankly Loon didn't care too much. "I'm Loon. What's your name?"

"I don't know... I've never tried. Seems like it would make sense though. If they can't do it, why can't we?" He smiled. "I can try." And with that he took a spinning step and leaped off the bench, landing with a thud on the sidewalk.
The blinked, looking up at the kitten with large eyes. "Really?!"

Loon nodded, grinning. "Yeah. I want friends too." The kitten smiled, landing silently besides Gunner. The youngster brushed against the pup in a friendly gesture. "You're my first friend." He grinned before trotting delicatly toward the water's edge. "But maybe we can get the ducks to be our friends too." He called.

"You're my first friend too!" He bounced excitedly as he headed towards the water. "Oh, I never gave you my name did I? I'm Gunner." He grinned, stopping at the water's edge and bending his head to sniff the water. "Smells kinda cold..." He meant that being so close made his nose cold, but it was all the same wasn't it?

Loon bent his head to the water as well. "It does? It just smells like water to me. I wish I had a good nose like yours." He said with admiration. How could his mother not like dogs? Gunner was so nice and so cool! The kitten lifted his head to the ducks swimming by. "Hey you guys! Hey! Come be our friends!" He called to them, giving Gunner a quick grin that faded only slightly as the ducks ignored him.

He smiled encouragingly back at Loon. "Well... maybe they're just not allowed to talk to strangers! Now lets try that walking on water thing..."
He placed one paw on the water, and grinned as it stayed on the surface. next was to try the other paw, put as soon as he lifted the second paw up he tumbled right in, getting soaked. It was then that he realized that he had been holding his paw on the surface, not letting it float.
He giggled, sitting up but still in the water. "Noooope. Can't walk on water. I wish I could swim."

Loon nodded. Yeah, that must be the reason. As Gunner set one paw on the water, the kitten found himself holding his breath. Maybe he was messed up and everyone else could- Nope. The youngster couldn't help a giggle. "Oh. Well thanks for trying." He said, offering a paw. "Do you get to come to the park a lot? Maybe we could hang out later then."

Gunner took the paw with a muttered thanks and got out of the water. Once on dry land he bounded a little bit away and shook out his fur, careful not to get any more water on the kitten then was already there.
"Yeah, I come here whenever I want. We have a dog-door. Least, that's what my human calls it. It's kinda like a little hole that we can get out of."

"You live with a human?" Loon asked in fasination. "I live with my mom by one of those buildings where humans get food. My mom says that humans are bad and that I shouldn't ever go near them." Of course, Loon was beginning to wonder if his mom was right. After all, she'd said that all dogs were bad too, but his first friend was a dog and he was really really nice. "Is it fun living with a human?"

"Yupp. She found me in a box on a rainy day, took me home, cared for me, and here I am." He wiggled his body to show that he was in good health. "I don't see why she wouldn't want you to go near them. Most are perfectly friendly. There's the occasional grump, but they ain't a big deal."
"It's pretty nice living with a human, and can be fun. there are a few rules to living with them, but they're easy enough to obey. It's worth it though. I've got a bed, there are blankets on the floor for me to sleep on by the fire, and she's very cuddly. Plus she's there when no one else will play with me." He nodded very matter-of-fact-ish and sat down.

Loon shrugged. "I dunno why either... Mom said not to go near dogs either." He admitted quietly, sighing before he rubbed against Gunner. "But you're my friend so I don't care. I just hope Mom doesn't find out. Maybe some day I could meet your human even! It sounds like lotsa fun to live with one..."
