In the middle of the forest was a pool of water that flowed from a few small streams which fed it. Moss surrounded the leaf-litter and a large willow stood over the crystalline waters. Frogs chirped and turtles peered up from the deapths as fish circled and spun. The light was dappled at best and a cool breeze managed to waft through the trees.
A rather squat mare lay on her side, her eyes closed lightly, and a soft smile curving her lips. The skunk coloured female was merely enjoying a bit of solitude and listening to the early spring symphony of the dragonflies as well as the wood, leopard, and bull frogs.
The wood frog with it's reedy call, the leopard's more of a croak and the massive bullfrogs with it's deep, low, bellow. The dragonflies droned out a melodic hum. Their song, or so they seemed to be singing, was of the new season and the joy that it brought to them. A rabbit greedily ate a spring of clover as it reveled in the surrounding sounds.
The mare sighed contentidly and a soft, sweet melody escaped her lips.
"I follow the night. Can't stand the light. When will I begin to live again. One day I'll fly away. Leave all this to yesterday. What more could your love do for me. When will love be through with me. Why live life from dream to dream. And dread the day when dreaming ends. One day I'll fly away. Leave all this to yesterday. Why live life from dream to dream and dread the day when dreaming ends.
One day I'll fly away. Fly fly awaaaaaay." It was a soft melodic song she heard her mother singing so often when she was young. Her voice was a deep baritone, which didn't suit her compact size, and held an easy going English accent which didn't sound as formal as a Londoner's brogue.

Softly trodden steps were completely silent in their path through the unmarked terrain, silver irises focused disinterestedly on the sunny horizon before her as the unikalona mare meandered aimlessly through the empty forest. It had been only a few days since her last encounter with another soul, but the lack of conversation left her feeling bereft of the contact, despite her lonely upbringing. Perhaps she was simply wishing for actual companionship, rather than the casual, coincidental encounters that came on occasion- although that was not a possibility that she liked to consider. Attachment was not a good thing- at least not for her kind.
The soft notes of a melodic voice penetrated her wandering thoughts, onyx-furred pinnae flicking forward with detached interest at the familiarity of the feminine voice. After a moment of consideration, she stepped through the foliage in her usual stealthy manner, but took care to announce her presence- she didn't want to startle the little Usdia like she had before. Sparkling leathery wings folded back against her sides, and she lowered her head as cloven hooves stepped into the small clearing, silvery gaze rising to meet her own. "Konban wa, chibi," she bowed her head in lieu to the polite greeting, using the familiar words she had spoken the previous night in an attempt to seem unobtrusive.
"I never took you for a diva, Flower-chan." Glittering metallic hues shone with amusement beneath her celtic patterned mask, the tiniest of smiles adorning her ebon' maw- almost teasing in its appearance. She had quite the lovely voice for such a small creature- but Amaya would be the first to realize that appearances could be deceiving.

The mare hadn't seen the unikalona's approach so the voice was all she needed. She quickly opened her eyes and worked on getting to her feet. "Hello Amaya." She said dipping her maw slightly before getting to her feet. "A...diva?" She asked canting her head to one side in slight confusion. "I mean, I know what it means but, what made you think that? That song was merely something I heard my mother sing when I was younger." She explained.
She still couldn't believe that she had found a unikalona that wasn't dangerous. At least, she hadn't shown her true side if she were. But most would eat as soon as look at a Usdia so that was something...right? Flower hopes so at any rate. Besides, if she did really want to eat her, why not choose when she was lieing down, eyes closed? All of these thoughts flickered in the back of her mind.

The shadow of a smile remained even as her expression regained its stoicism, silver eyes alight with a small bit of affection for the tiny mare. "You have a lovely voice, chibi. It matters not what song you were singing, although that was lovely as well. My own mother used to sing me a lullaby not unlike yours." Her eyes lost their focus slightly at the mention of her mother, but a shake of her head cleared them again as she met the other's cerulean gaze.
Amaya took a certain measure of relief in the fact that the usdia no longer seemed tense and frightened around her, although in truth, she couldn't blame her. Soquili much larger than her had cried out and fled in fear before she could explain that she meant them no harm. It was a bit comforting to think that she could befriend even the smallest of creatures that considered her kind to be so dangerous.
There was a slight bit of discomfort in the fact that they were out in the broad daylight when she was so accustomed to lurking in the shadows, but she had to admit that being in the sunlight had a certain charm to it. It was a pleasurable feeling, to feel the warmth of its rays upon her back, instead of the chilling winds that she usually endured in the dead of night. She couldn't imagine Flower as a being of night, though, so it made sense that she would be out in the sun like this whenever she could.
