Kya padded along silently, head cocked slightly to one side, paws hitting the ground in an odd sort of rhythm, bah bah bum bum bah, bah bah bah bum bah bah ...

Stopping suddenly, the young cheetah shook her head. No no no ... that wasn't right either.

Glancing around, she spotted a scraggly tree and padded over, beating paws on the ground and then smacking the tree with her tail, trying to get a different sort of sound. Dissatisfied with that too, she tried thumping the tree with front paws, but all that got her was a shower of prickly-skinned unripe fruits.

Backing away, she shook her head again in frustration and growled as if the tree was at fault. Darn it all ... why couldn't she get what she heard in her head to work in real life...?

The lioness was out on her morning prey scouting, having said goodbye to her children. No doubt they would still be sleeping when she returned, as children did. Shiri would probably be out daydreaming, but she could count on her sons to sleep in late. And even if they did wake up before she returned, Binafsi didn't worry about their safety. They knew where the Nchi'mahadhi lands ended, and thus they would only play in there. Kitambi would keep an eye out for them. She had faith in the pride's heir.

As Binafsi trotted along down her morning route, the sound of beats caught her attention. The lioness hesitated, head tilted as she listened to make sure she had heard right. No, the stomps were too co-ordinated to not be beats. There was someone out here with rhythm, and it was coming from over there. Curious, she followed the sounds, until she came upon Kya.

"That's a fine beat you have going there," Binafsi said, smiling as she approached the cub. By the looks of it, this little one looked like a cheetah, but it was a young one. It was rare to hear such musical talent outside the pride. The lioness was curious. "Where did you learn that?"

Startled by the lioness's sudden appearance, Kya stopped what she was doing, freezing in place, pink eyes going wide. She had quite obviously never seen a lioness before ... the only creatures other than her family that she had really come in contact with had been the small animals they ate, and sometimes larger prey.

After a moment or two, though, surprise turned to curiosity and her ears tilted toward the older female. "It's not that great. I can't get it right," she complained, tail flicking a bit.

"An' I didn't learn it anywhere, really ... just ... tryin' to make stuff in my head sound the same outside of it." That was maybe an odd sort of explanation, but it makes sense to her!

Binafsi hesitated at the look on the young cheetah's face, having momentarily forgotten how frightening she probably looked. There had been times in the past when she had startled full grown cheetahs, and this little one wasn't even old enough to defend herself yet. She could be lunch meat to a lion. The huntress tended to forget that not every lion shared her mothering instinct.

Luckily, the young cheetah didn't remain startled for long. The lioness relaxed when Kya did, glad that she hadn't scared this little one away. She wanted to know about her Rhythm, as it was a gift that she didn't see very often outside of her pride. "Quite the contrary. It sounds like you're on the right path to me. You just have to find something that makes a loud sound if you hit it lightly. Like... a rotting log or something. That'll give you a better sound." She heard it in her head? Then she was truly gifted! Nsundu would want to meet this one. "In your head? That's a pretty rare gift, little one. Did you know that?"

Eyes widened again at that, and Kya blinked at the lioness. She'd never thought of that before!!

"Really? I think there's a log close to here! I saw it once," she said, with a little smile. She would have to go and find it later and try that out. But she knew just enough manners not to run off right that moment and forced herself to sit still and listen to the lioness's next words.

"A rare gift? How come?" she asked then, in the curious manner of the very young.

Binafsi gave the young cheetah a bright smile, and nodded her head. "Exactly. When you're a little bit lighter than say, a full grown cheetah or a lioness, you need to find something that makes a bigger sound if you hit it lightly. If you hit rocks or trees or even the ground it won't make a big enough sound." To demonstrate, she tapped her paws on the ground, doing it lightly and then putting down more weight in order to make the sound stronger.

At the young cheetah's question she tilted her head, thinking for a moment before she replied. "It's not something you see very often, thus making it rare. You say you can hear it without any training. Where I come from, all of us hear the same sort of music, but we encourage our children to open up to it. Out here, you don't see many lions or cheetahs who can hear music on their own."

The little cheetah watched as the lioness stamped on the ground, eyes going round again when she heard the louder sound. She knew already that certain things made different sounds than others, but she just wasn't heavy enough yet to make a noise like that on her own. Definitely have to go find that log later and try it out!

Ears pricked toward the lioness then, when she started talking about a place where there was music everywhere - or so it sounded like to Kya. "Where is that place...?" she asked after a moment or two, instantly entranced by the idea.

Binafsi noted the interested expression on the young cheetah's face, and couldn't help but smile. She had her own cubs, so bringing another home would hardly be a problem. The huntress would care for the young cheetah as she cared for her own half-leopard children. Not to mention the pride would keep an eye out for her. Nsundu wouldn't mind, especially if the cheetah had talent. The Malenga herself had said that she liked musical cheetahs, and from what Binafsi had heard, Nsundu had a cheetah friend of her own. It would do no harm to tell this little one where the pride was.

"The pride where I was born. It's not too far back from here, if you follow the hunter's trail." Binafsi nodded back the way she had came. "The trail is pretty worn, so it's not too hard to find. If you follow it back along the river you'll reach the pride. I could take you there, if you'd like, but only if you ask your mother first. I wouldn't want her worrying about you suddenly disappearing or anything."

Kya thought about that for a moment or two, and then nodded eagerly. "I'd like to see it!" she said, bouncing up and down. It would be great to see a place where music and rhythm was important to the creatures that lived there.

There was one problem, though... she knew that her mother didn't really like lions, though Kya couldn't see why. This lioness, especially, was nice.

"I ... I could ask her," she said, sounding just a little bit uncertain.

(( Want to end this one soon, and then I can do an RP with Kya's mom and also start another with you~? I've talked to Kieko a bit about this, and I think she said her mother would probably disapprove... but Kya's going to leave anyway XD; ))

[ Works for me! <3 ]

Binafsi could not help but grin at the young cheetah's excitement. It would be nice to have such an enthusiastic youth in the pride, cheetah or not. Everyone was allowed to embrace the rhythm and the music in them, no matter what their species. Perhaps she could even take lessons from the male cheetah who came to visit their pride every now and then. Not to mention Kitambi knew quite a bit about teaching cheetahs how to dance. Having another cheetah around would hardly be a problem.

At the hesitation, the lioness blinked, but decided to say nothing. It would be the child's choice if she came, ultimately, but she hoped that it would not cause strife between the mother and this young cheetah. "Well, see what she says. You can always come and visit, even if you don't stay permanently. Perhaps your mother will join you on one of your visits, if she would like to come."

"Oh ... I don't know if she would, but I'd like that," Kya replied, almost shyly now, ducking her head a little bit.

Then she bounced up again and held her head high. "Anyway, I'm going to go ask her! I'll come and find the pride sometime soon, I promise!"

(( Aaand if you want, we could go on and start another~ Up to you though ^^ Shoot me a PM or somethin 8D ))
