RP Event This is our "St. Pat's Day Event" but obviously, since neither Ireland nor St. Pat exsist in the Avatar world, a different holiday is being celebrated on March 17th!
So here it is:
It’s time to head over to the Fire Nation, to celebrate the birthday of our dear Prince Yu and Princess Yan, as well as the formation of the Yu-Yan Archers. On the 16th/17th, there will be a small celebration for the Prince and Princess, which will involve numerous tournaments, including archery, sword play, martial arts and firebending.
What does this mean for you all? If you wish to participate, have your character head on over to the Fire Nation, if they need a ride, Ina has graciously volunteered to let them hop a ride on her parents’ boat! Once in the Fire Nation, they can watch the tournaments, or if they want, can sign up for one. Anyone can participate in the contests, except for the firebending, where, obviously, you’ll need to have a firebending character. (If there’s enough interest, there may be some smaller bending events).
This is a small RP event, we hope to get up the activity around here with it, but if you enter into any of the little RP Contest Tournaments, there is a minor prize at the end! ((OOC: In this thread you may RP your character traveling to the Fire Nation, wandering the town, interacting with other characters and practicing for any tournament they wish to enter. Around Sunday the tournament RP should begin, so look for that!)) Just a few rules for this event: Follow all rules from the Main Shop. Please keep OOC to a minimum, if you need to though, please put it in brackets. Obviously, you must have a character to participate.

When Chao-Shi's feet touched solid ground again, he was so happy he could've kissed it. He didnt, of course. But the thought was still there. Seriously, the old hag could've at least booked a solid boat to get the troupe to the Fire Nation.
When he had first seen the boat, it had rust on it. Rust. Now, granted, he didnt know much about boats, but Chao could at least put together that rust + water = NO GOOD. And it didnt. Thank goodness his cards had been with him, and not stowed away in his luggage, otherwise they wouldve been damaged beyond repair.
By what? A leak, of course! He rolled his eyes at the thought of it. It was, however, the very last straw. Chao-shi was leaving his troupe for good, and he wasnt looking back. Then again, he might have had a cleaner brake had he not stolen the majority of madame-old-face's money. But in all honesty, most of it was his.
The rest was just for emotional grievances. The Fire Nation port town in which they had docked was small, more of a stopping point than anything else. It did, however, give him some very pertinent information. A poster hung up on a post told him all he needed to know- A royal celebration.
It was perfect. As soon as he got his bearings in the city itself, he booked the soonest coach out of the small town, and into the main city.
Chao-shi had a feeling it was going to be a rather profitable adventure, and that thought made him smile.

The one good thing about what had occured the night the Ringmaster was attacked was that nobody was working on the circus. And with nobody working at the circus, there was plenty of opportunity to goof off and enjoy life. Qiao was doing just that. It was such good luck that the Circus was still in the Fire Nation otherwise Qiao would've missed the Festival of...something. It had something to do with the royal family or fire or something, right? Who cared, there was probably gonna be games and food. She didn't have to go far to reach the main city and once there, she took her time wandering around to find something to buy, but everything was so....tacky. Not to mention expensive. But that didn't stop her from buying a dragon-shaped finger trap. She'd give it to Tingzhe and he'd get his fingers stuck in it and look like a total dork. ....Just as soon as she figured out to get it off herself.

Throngs of people milled around everywhere, around the docks where citizans of the Fire Nation were coming to the capital city, in the streets where the shops had opened tents to try selling their food and wares and in the taverns, people were crowding to get in.
In all the hustle, no one would have notice a man standing quite still, watching almost everything around him. To call him young would be a strech, by any definition, as his black, neatly kept beard was speckled with spatterings of gray. Although his short, military-esque hair had not started to recede from the forehead, a small bald spot was visible from the back. Although his face was smooth, his rich brown eyes reflected a long life, that had seen and done much. He had broad shoulders, and still appeared to be in top physical condition. The man watched a boy disembark from a rather questionable boat with some interest, then turned towards the stands.
He moved effortlessly through the crowd, smiling here and there benignly at children with their candy or lovers walking arm in arm. He came to a stand where a young girl was trying to free herself from a finger trap.
"Those things always were quite pesky, if I remember," he said, laughing heartily. "I always remember thinking, 'if I just pull harder, I'll be free!' But that never worked. Funny that, isn't it? Brute strength should always work, shouldn't it?" He bent down and lightly pushed her elbows together, so her fingers touched briefly inside the trap, then let go, so she was still stuck. "But sometimes, things don't work the way we think they should, and stubbornly going at it, when it's clearly not working, well...that won't get you anywhere, will it?"
He straightened back up and took a few steps away from her, then turned back and waved. "I'm sure you'll get it," he called and was gone into the crowd.

Ina jumped off her parents' ship, tying the moors same as the sailors they'd hired. She was definitely no stranger to work, though she still looked spoiled anyways. Her clothes were of the finest fabric with the most intricate embroidery one could imagine finding. And here she was, tying ropes!
The boat next to them looked to have sprung a leak. She laughed. Her parents were always -very- careful to make sure their ship was thoroughly inspected before heading out to sea-- after all, their merchandise was their livelihood.
After the ship was settled in, she waved to a tall, severe looking woman on deck-- her mother, judging by appearances-- and headed into the throng. She loved Fire Nation holidays, and this was certainly no exception. She wanted to make sure she made it in time for the Fire Dragon dance, because that was her favourite. All the fire benders would dress up like one huge dragon and bend fire in the audience's direction, startling small children and making the bigger ones laugh with delight.

If it hadn't happened so fast, Qiao would've had to to gasp, jump in surprise, and possibly freak out about some old guy touching her. Luckily, that wasn't the case as the man was trying to be helpful even though she was still stuck in the finger trap. Geeze, his solution seemed like it would work, too. He was right, tugging certainly didn't help, it fact it hurt like hell. Nobody else was around, she had to follow him. Maybe he owned a hammer or a big rock to smash the trap with. With that in mind, Qiao dashed into the crowd, occasionally bumping into people as it was hard to run without the use of her arms, hoping the man didn't get too far.

The strange man hadn't gone far into the crowd. Up ahead he had suddenly swerved as his nostrils caught the smell of food. He waited patiently in the line as a boy at the front dug through his pocket for change.
It seemed that he couldn't go anywhere without running into someone he knew and he was soon caught up in a friendly chat with the man and woman behind him, parents of one of his students.
"Ina!" Lei called, bounding down the plank. As her feet hit the ground, she said a silent prayer of thanks. Although her boat was the safest one on the water, and handled by excellent people, she had still been nervous. She waved at Ina's mother, and continued to chase after Ina, her braids bouncing on her back.
Lei hadn't known Ina very well, but she rememberd her sister mentioning that if she ever needed a ride outside the Earth Kingdom, Ina was the one to go to. Now that Lei was less sick, she wanted to see other parts of the world, and the Fire Nations celebration was the perfect excuse. She knew her sister had gone here, so she was hoping to see her, it had been a while now. And if she didn't find her, she'd just go home with Ina and wait.
The boat ride had seemed like no time at all. Ina knew many stories and tales and Lei had spend many of the nights sitting at her feet listening to her retell the stories.
"Wait up," she called again. She had originally told Ina she would stay behind, but had changed her mind. It was suddenly very quiet after Ina disembareked.

Yeah, that was typical of the boat-- it usually -did- get a lot quieter after Ina left. The girl turned around, grinning. Then she waved to her to hurry up, "C'mon! You don't want to miss the dragon dance-- it's fantastic."
And after that she'd see about some of the other contests. She was sure she wouldn't get far in the firebending tournament, but it might be fun to try anyhow. And there were foods to eat and acrobats to watch and everything too, so there'd be plenty to keep the girl occupied.
"It's too bad your sister isn't here. She'd have a blast. I'll have to give you some stuff to take back to her."
Avani was probably about the closest thing she had to a friend, possibly along with Toshiro and Dao Rui. This meant that whatever funds she had went towards an attempt to keep such friendship-- which, as far as Ina could figure, meant a lot of gifts.

Well, hopefully Avani would show soon.
Tsai Shen and his older cousin, the dangerously attractive Dao Rui were attending the festival together. After destroying the men attacking Ina's ship, they'd reached shore safely and the mercenary had gone on her way, returning to the home of her aunt/surrogate mother Khutulan.
Her earthy cousin had reached the training school about a week after she had and the two spent the next two weeks in fierce training, sparring with one another constantly. That is, until over dinner, Tsai Shen met Avani's mother. The one she'd been looking for.
He had immediately set a messenger bird to her, requesting that she meet him at the festival.
That had been one week ago.
Tsai Shen was now attempting to charm his favorite cousin, juggling rocks in the air [to the amusement and delight of a few local ladies] and grinning. She, however, was more interested in scanning the crowd for potential trouble.
They made a striking pair, the two.

Lei looked up curiously at Ina. "She...she didn't tell you?" the young girl asked. "My sister's...I mean, Avani IS here. She and Tsai Shen traveled to the Fire Nation almost a month back now. She came to look for our mother."
Lei smiled. "She was supposed to write when she found her, but she hasn't yet, so I guess.." She shrugged. "Well, I'm hoping I can find Avani and visit her, we've never been apart this long, but it seems so much bigger here!"
------------------------------
Avani streched in the little bed that sat in the corner of her even smaller room. She was quickly depleating what little money she had at this inn. It was the cheapest one she could find, and it was still nicer than any in the outer ring she had ever seen!
The bender walked down to get a nice early afternoon breakfast. As she moved through the front room, the owner motioned to her.
"There's a letter here, I hadn't seen you the last few days, but here you go," he said, handing it over. Avani took it and thanked him, knowing the handwriting well. She opened it and as she read it, her eyes got wider.
"I'vegottogo!" she cried to the man and dashed back upstairs.
10 minutes later, she was out on the streets, looking around for Tsai Shen

It didn't take long for Qiao to catch up to the man she'd be persuing. Running took a lot out of her, especially since it was through such a large crowd. Thank goodness he'd stopped for food. He was talking with some people, though and it'd be rude and a little strange if she openly interupted them. So she got into the line and waited, she was hungry anyway and maybe he'd notice her. It was kind of hard not to.

Out of the corner of his eye, the teacher saw Qiao moving through the crowd, it wasn't hard to miss, though, so he couldn't use his attention to detail as a reason for spotting her.
Now at the front of the line, he bought his favorite finger food, teriaki chicken. Pieces of chicken on a long, thin stick, roasted and flavored with teriaki sauce. He bought 4 sticks, holding 3 in the wrapper the woman handed him and munching on the fourth. He politely excused himself from the family and approched the young girl again.
"Would you like some?" he smiled in a generous fashion, and held out two of the chicken sticks, as if he didn't notice her fingers were still trapped.

Tsai Shen wasn't fortunate enough to spot Avani, however, Dao Rui's sharp gaze had been on the docks and she eventually found the girl that she was looking for. Ina. They hadn't seen each other in a few weeks, and surprisingly, the airbender was pleased to spot her again. They'd had an interesting goodbye.
Her fingertips briefly brushed Tsai Shen's wrist, wordlessly alerting him to their directional change. The two weaved through the crowd until they approached Ina and...
"Lei!" Tsai Shen's handsome grin was large. "Everytime I see you, you've grown more beautiful! Lei, meet my delightful cousin, Dao Rui."
Dao Rui gave Ina a wry smile, barely lifting the corners of her mouth, and shifted so her back was toward a crate, dark blue eyes scanning the crowd continuously. "A pleasure, I'm sure." A hand was offered to Lei in greeting.

Lei had drawn back as a woman called out to Ina, a little scared by her appearance. Tentitavly, she took the offered hand. "P-pleased to meet you, Dao Rui," she said, trying to smile and ducking her head quickly in greeting.
"Thank you, Tsai Shen," she said, smiling widely. She stood for a moment longer, then couldn't seem to hold it in. "I've missed you!" she cried, jumping at Tsai Shen and wrapping her tiny arms around his neck. "Where's my sister, is she here with you somewhere?"

Oh cruel fate! To be trapped at a time when she had a perfect excuse to eat free food. He was just asking for a crying fit, holding it out in front of her like that while her poor fingers were still encased in the evil finger trap. Honestly, where did he get off? Still....only two of her fingers were trapped. It's not as if she didn't still have her thumbs or her other fingers. Now that's an idea! Qiao folded her other fingers together as best she could and held up her hands to the man. "Yes please," she finally spoke up, "just place the stickbetween my other fingers, I'll hold it like that."
