As the rift between fans of Japanese entertainment grows wider, what better way to throw a spanner in the works than to face anime and manga off against each other. Some fans reckon animation does it better, while others would rather see their stories on paper. It's all a matter of opinion and our opinions differ from series to series. So, in what cases did one beat the other, and are there a select few in which you believe they complimented each other perfectly? Oh, and let's try to respect each other in the process too (●⌒∇⌒●)

I like the manga for DNAngel better than the anime - and I think a lot of fans will agree that the manga for FMA is better as well.
Though I haven't seen all of it, I think they did an excellent job on the Claymore anime, I give it two thumbs up =3

Personally, this topic always gets me thinking about the mangaka, Ai Yazawa, and some of the notes she's written in her manga. Yazawa's manga has been adapted into anime since "Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai", and since then her next four works have all been animated too. Yazawa had her say throughout the production of the anime version of "Tenshi..." and later told her fans that the anime basically "completed" the entire "Tenshi..." series as a whole and she couldn't have been happier with how it turned out. Her next manga, "Gokinjo Monogatari" was made into anime while the manga was still being written and published, so the anime came out alongside the manga. Due to the detail the anime went into in some of the areas the manga ignored, Yazawa actually thought the anime was a good way for the manga readers to truly understand the manga.
I just love how in cases like these, the anime compliments the manga in a way totally intended by the mangaka. People often dislike anime adaptions for "ruining the original", so I like to read happy stories straight from the source XP

Isn't it just? Hehe XP It's all well that fans argue over them, but it's all about the artist's intentions in the end.

T'is interesting!
It reminds me of the Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna manga and anime, and X/1999 manga and anime. They had similiar expiriences, with them both coming out at the same time. X I never finished so i shan't say anything of it, but Spiral, the anime wasn't as great [ as in thoroughness, and it left a lot of questions unanswered] but it was still good! WIth a really annoying theme song.....Pretear, Matantei Loki, Princess Tutu and Eureka seveN have kinda similar stories as well.
I think there's only one series that I haven't actually liked the anime interpretation much at all. And that would be Rurouni Kenshin. However, sometimes they did a really great job with it! It's just, I think they added in way too many fillers. And you can tell it was put together in a rush because of the art sometimes....>_<
@Star - Don't kill me, but, I liked the DN Angel anime more >_>; It's a really stupid reason as to why, but it irks me that the manga was never finished. So I stick with the anime, which did have an ending >3< But hopefully the manga will be taken off hiatus sometime, and then I can finish reading.

And just as a side note, I don't think it's a bad manga [ if anyone got that from my first post D: ] it's just I'd rather it be finished >_<

I can understand why that would be an annoyance. When you get really reeeeaaaallly into manga, you just want the mangaka to hurry up and finish the next one XD ~There are certain series that would kill me if left incomplete ヽ(o`皿′o)ノ

Oh I'd be dead if a few weren't, Rurouni Kenshin, Spiral, Crescent Moon, MxM...the list goes on. xDDD
Speaking of mangas unfinished, I'm upset that hte manga-ka Hatori Bisco dropped Millenium Snow for Ouran [ I haet Ouran! D< ]. I loooove Millenium Snow though! >3_< Another one I want finished - well, finished translating - is Matantei Loki! They dropped it after two volumes of the second series D':

You read so many that I don't (^^;; ) I'd be upset if Ai Yazawa ever stopped writing, especially if Nana were to end (,,#゚Д゚) You get so dragged into a story, being left to hang is the ultimate tourture.

meGgi e s t A e R I a @Star - Don't kill me, but, I liked the DN Angel anime more >_>; It's a really stupid reason as to why, but it irks me that the manga was never finished. So I stick with the anime, which did have an ending >3< But hopefully the manga will be taken off hiatus sometime, and then I can finish reading. haha, I won't. That's a perfectly good reason! The ending of the anime was good, and I WISH they'd finish the manga - it's just so gosh darned cute! whee (besides, how could I hate you when you gave me your volumes?*hugs them* XD) Loki. . .well, I need to actually read it as well as finish watching it! and I wish I could read nana! ><;;; *looks for it online* there's sooo much stuff I need to finish @_@ and I think I like the naruto manga better. I read it a long time before it got popular - and the anime just kind of annoys me a bit. It seems to keep to the manga storyline however, though not having watched it I wouldn't know. >>;

Hellsing OVA is better than Hellsing Manga
most people will say they like manga because of the story line but if the story line was kept the same for the anime then people will enjoy anime more
Initial D anime is better than Initial D manga
also somethings are just not meant for manga, Initial D is one of them
