The day was young, the sun just beginning to peek into the windows of the inn, but that did not mean that everyone was still asleep. Celebor had been up for a while already, still used to getting up before sunrise for his morning training - in fact, he didn't like to sleep later than the sun. It made him feel lazy now, despite the fact that he knew it was all right.

He was also quite excited for what he knew was about to happen. He was mentally an adult now, even if he was physically no more than a teen, and he was ready to enter the adult world. That meant that he should find himself an occupation - and after a year of training in Arda with the elves, he was comfortable with his mother's culture enough that he wanted to do something that was related to it. He had had quite a time convincing her, but he was to head out today with Donovan on a mission to rescue children who had been abducted by slave traders in the Four Lands. Someday he might like to travel or something, or be a bodyguard as Donovan had once been, but for now ... this was something like a test he had set for himself, the test of all his training, to see if what he had learned would do him any good in the real world.

He had finished packing and said his goodbyes to his mother and siblings the night before, knowing that he would likely be gone before they were awake, and he didn't want or need anything more - though it would be possibly a month for him, to them he would be gone no more than a day. At the moment, he was standing, waiting patiently outside the portal door for Donovan to join him. He wasn't sure if Kara would be coming along as well, though he suspected that Lin and Miyu might. To be honest, he was curious to meet the man that Miyu seemed so attracted to. It took someone special not to terrify her.

Lau Donovan was a man who liked to have everything organized, and liked to know the possible outcome of whatever he did. This time was no different, only he had one factor he didn't know what to make of. For the first time Donovan was going to take someone from Gaia along for a hunt. He supposed to an extent he should have expected it, after all it was only a matter of time before someone became old enough and interested enough to want to come along.

Which was probably why Donovan was waiting along side Kara and Lin (who had become a natural tagalong in the Ranch) for Celebor. Why on earth Miyu was coming he didn't know, he suspected it had something to do with Aragost. This really shouldn't bother him, Celebor had learned for a year, Seconds were fast learners and further more he was no longer a kid. He was a teenager who was just as learned as the mer twins (if one wanted to be technical about time).

He hated firsts... with a passion.

Kara was adjusting the bag over her shoulder, she was far more calm about this, but perhaps it was because she already had children who were in possibly life threatening situations, specifically Triton who had ended up in the med wing several times before becoming an year old. So she was use to this knowledge that she was going to have someone who she had seen grown up going off to fight. At least this time, it would be a bit more controlled than a surprise attack on the school.

Celebor smiled faintly and nodded to himself when he saw Donovan, Lin and Kara, and he adjusted his bag on his back so that it was more comfortable, then put one hand on his swordbelt.

"Shall we be off, then?" he asked cheerfully, reaching for the doorknob and opening the door for the others. "After you."

Donovan chuckled at that as he ushered the girls through the door. Taking Kara's hand he followed close behind, though he did not have to fear the children running off, he didn't want to be caught off guard if anything happened.

Lin ran through, she had brought with her a newly formed list of things she was so going to learn. It was a suggestion of her mother, since Lin didn't know what she wanted to learn (besides the usual and besides everything).

Kara smiled as she felt the fresh air that she would not find back home unless she traveled far from it. The moment she felt the soft grass beneath her feet she turned part way to make sure Celebor was coming in right behind them. She had not been here when Celebor was, and this would be a first for her as well.

Celebor took a deep breath as he passed through the portal. This was the air that he loved to breathe now, the air that was crisp and clear, void of any pollutants and smelling of nothing but nature itself. He paused for a moment after he was through and looked around.

It was mid-spring in the Four Lands, and all of the snow from that winter had melted away and the ground was already dry. The trees were filled with birds, singing their songs to the golden sun, and there was not a single cloud visible in the sky.

In the nearby trees, there was a squeal and a giggle, and suddenly Adanedhel, now six years old, ran into view with a two-year-old Alyse riding on his back, her stubby little arms wrapped around his neck.

When they saw the group, Adanedhel stopped in his tracks and broke into a wide smile.

"Mama! Papa!" he called over his shoulder. "They're here! Donovan-san and Kara-san and Celebor-kun and Lin-chan! They're here!"

A moment later, Aliya and Amdir appeared as well, with Adwin, now a burly two-year-old, riding on Amdir's shoulders.

"Hello," Aliya smiled brightly at the group. "Welcome back! We're just heading to the ranch, would you like to join us?"

"Would love to," Donovan grinned, "I see the kids have grown more."

And Adanedhel was still as active as ever he also noted. Not to mention it was time to get to know the kids again. Pity the mertwins couldn't come this time around.

"Adanedhel," Kara grinned, "You've gotten bigger since the last time I've seen you."

She giggled leaning against Donovan, waving at Aliya and Admir.

"And how have you two been doing?"

Celebor smiled easily at the lot of them and as they started off towards the ranch, he started chatting with Adanedhel, who was quite eager to chat indeed. It seemed he had learned a lot more since the last time Celebor had seen him, and his carving collection had grown - Celebor made a note to check it out before he returned home again.

The two grinned back at Kara and started to lead the way to the ranch.

"We've been doing excellently well," Amdir replied cheerfully. "You'll be happy to know, Donovan, that the herd is growing steadily, and we've actually sold a few of the horses. Got a good price for them, too.color]

Aliya moved to walk next to Kara. "Things have gotten a lot steadier as the twins have been growing older," she murmured with a smile. "They're easier to manage - for the most part. At least now I can send them outside to play whenever they become too much to handle."

She giggled softly.

"That's good," Donovan nodded, "And do you know if Celeborn and Elros had arranged those hunts without me? I know Celeborn had suggested it, and it makes sense for them to do so."

It would be better for the ranch and better for the children and fortunately the only people losing out were the slavers who lost lives and gold in the process of it all.

Lin ran ahead, she could feel a familiar tickling along her arm. Of course it had been winter back home, and it had been fading or winter when she had her last two visit. So it was no surprise to her when she looked down at her arm to see a butterfly crawling up it.

"So we meet again you annoying chatterbox," she muttered to it.

Kara laughed softly at that, she understood that need all too well, "Yes, I know all about that sort of thing. I still do that to the younger ones, though most of them are grown up," she replied wistfully, "The only time I couldn't do that was with Feng and Ryu.... though I tended to worry if I couldn't find her and Ryu."

They were all getting old, it was kind of sad to her.

Miyu, unlike Lin, decided to stay close to her grandmother. She had no interest in running ahead at all. She liked to stay close and play close unless she was with her favourite adult that wasn't her daddy of course.

Amdir nodded at Donovan's question. "Aye, they've been and gone a few times, the two of them, and left Aragost in charge of the fighters. Brought back a fair number of children as well, I might add. They've all been brought home again now, so it's just us regulars here for the moment."

Aliya grinned at Kara. "If half of what Feng told me about her exploits when she was younger were true," she laughed, "then I don't doubt that there was something to worry about. She was crazier than I was - and that's saying something, even I realize that now."

Not that it stopped her from having fun anymore, she was just safer about how she went about it.
