Magical Friend

PostPosted: Sun Mar 09, 2008 8:43 pm

So, Brawl came out today at midnight.
YEEEEEAHHHHHH.
Me and my friends looked all over for it.
We even went to two different Wal-Marts and GameStops.
Cooler thing was, at one of the GameStops, they were letting people who pre-ordered the game to try it out.
So of course, I went there without pre-ordering anything.
The thing was, if you answered a question right, you could play.
All the questions were about games.
So of course, who had the upper hand?
Yours truly.
I answered all questions when I walked in there, but I was in the back, so a** bicycles stole my turn.
But when I got to the front, the guy asked "___ ____ ____ Are Belong To Us."
So yeah.
I yelled "ALL YOUR BASE!!" at the top of my lungs.
And then I played Brawl.
Glorious Brawl.
Funny though...
We bought the game at Wal-Mart.
At 4 in the morning.
They announced on the PA system that it was at register 15.
Naturally, we all hauled a** there.
Moral of the story, we played Brawl from 4 to 10.
It rocked.
Rocked so hard that I fell asleep at 11 and didn't wake up until 9:30 in the evening. =D

I don't get brawl...

I mean the Wii is a great system, I'd love one.
The gamecube was awesome as well. Loads of really great games for that. biggrin

but..

I've NEVER liked any of the Smash Bros games that much...

Sure, the IDEA of Smash Brothers is awesome. It practically gives me wet dreams just thikning about it. A beat 'em up with a shitton of your favourite previous videogame characters. Who get to pummel the s**t out of each other for no reason, other than the fact it's AWESOME to do so.

How awesome is that???

However... They're... they're just a buttonmashathon... Unless you've got the button pressing skills of Michael J Fox hopped up on amyl nitrate with super hardcore breakbeat rave music playing, then you're going to get own3d pretty fast.

If I wanted to mash buttons like a rabid fool, I'd just eat the controller. e.e;

so yeah... I ... don't really see the gameplay appeal. Though some of the scerenshots that can be gained are pretty hysterical...

I'll stick with the Guilty Gear series...

Heh. Good to know that misc. Gamer knowledge comes in handy, eh? I'm getting mine on Thursday. I'll be happy to exchange friend codes and murder/by murdered by Kira. cool

You fell asleep that long? That's intense. xd

I think I know Kit's sentiment, but I think I may have to disagree, despite how hilarious it is.

Button mashing really only gets you stuck in awkward situations where the opponent could easily roll behind you and strike you out with a good smash attack. My brother could effortlessly murder me if I tried to button mash against him. I think there's a success formula to brawl:

1/3rd character knowledge, 1/3rd roll dodging skill, 1/3rd luck.

Plus, I think part of it's core elements is that it was meant to be a bit of a party game, where 4 friends could just make mayhem on a T.V. Screen and laugh their asses off.

And as if Guilty Gear in all it's glory, can't be button mashed or spammed? 4 words to disprove that: Chipp Zanuff, Sol Badguy.

Ah, didn't say spamming. That happens in EVERY fighting game. It's unavoidable. And it doesn't ever work. Except in Street Fighter 2. e.e;

Where games quickly devolve into a special move only fight.

As for Button Mashing, that's easy to break. Because the special moves require some skill. Sure, you can get off one or two, but that's through pure dumb luck. If you button mash and don't try to fight properly (gattling combos aren't considered spamming or mashing becuase you have the press the buttons in a specific order. Chipp's juts really, REALLY good for the gattling combos because he's so quick, and Sol's a close second purely on how his moves work.) then you're going to get mauled.

Even by the computer.

Hmm... I think I may have miscommunicated.
Anyways, I look forward to destroying you, Veggie...
As soon as I get a Wii and the game itself... ;_;
