I noticed how some items tend to be over abundant here on Gaia, especially things you can get from daily chance and whatnot. A lot of them sell for less than half their original value in the marketplace.

Do you still sell them in the marketplace for less than half their price? Sell them at exactly half price and wait until someone buys it? Or, do you sell them back to the store for exactly half the price? What about items that there are so many of (flowers/bugs/cans/etc.) that you can't sell back to the store?

I tend to sell them back to the store myself, thinking of it in some ways as reducing flooding of items so that maybe the price will go up someday. Man, I sound like an econ nerd. emo I don't even like econ! rofl

I sell the items back to the store, at least you are guaranteed to get half the price and you're not contributing to the flood in the market.

With the bugs and flowers and trash though, it's a different story! I think Earth Week last year showed us exactly how much can be made with only "useless items". I just wait until I have a decent amount of them, and then put them up in the marketplace a little lower than the average prices, and it's pretty rare for them not to be snapped up!

A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight...

I forgot all about selling to the stores. I've been selling stuff in the market, but no more. I don't know why Gaia thinks of the economy in terms of gold but not items. I mean, there is a flame shirt surplus we should be concerned about here.

...and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.

When I have a common store item that I don't want/need, I always just sell it back to the store for the half price. It's just flat out easier then messing with the market.

Uncommon items I will sell in the market, at or around the prices listed by other sellers.

As far as game items go (bugs, trash, flowers, tokens and tickets) I never use them soooo I head over to the gaming forums and find someone to just give them to, free. smile

luckily, i've found someone to take all the garbage and other non-resellable junk off my hands. i'm sure it's easy enough to just make a mule to dump it all on though.

i do the same with adnamac with the sellable stuff. marketplace for the rarer stuff, shops for the common.

well, i sell most of my daily chance items to the shops for half price. i'm holding on to all my flowers, trash, bugs, and inks just in case we have another earth week competition. be aware: there's a lot of junk in my... ummm.... err.... trunk? rofl

*laughs at Buick's trunk*

I was just going to recommend to Adnamac and iron-gumbi that they hang onto their trash! Earth Week was hugely profitable last year for all the place getters! If you are only giving it away, you should hoard it instead, and save it for the next Earth Week!

My trick with trash is to save up insane gobs of it and sell it dirt cheap-- thus being one of the culprits behind item deflation.

When I can I sell to the stores. The new marketplace really hurt my fish selling because boldurs were going for like 100 g, now some of them barely sell above the store buy back around 20 something or so.

Mostly I wish daily chance offered more neat items on occasion.

There only so many space bubbles, L blocks, and heart shaped candies we can take. Oh yes, and Snowman Masks

I'm going to put up an inventory of things I am willing to give away to a good home. smile

It depends on the items, I sell the common items that you see everytime you click on the dang on daily chance back to the shops, since you get more from there than selling it from your own store.

Hmm, I guess I will save up all that junk in case there happens to be another Earth Day contest. xd If not, I'll give it to someone who wants it.

I dunno, sometimes I have the inclination to want to sell things for cheaper than 50% in the market just in case someone REALLY wants something. But I guess since those are the more common items, they'd probably get one of their own sooner or later through daily chance or whatnot.

I think it's interesting to look at the way we think about the "economy" here in Gaia...saving money here and there, very similarly to real life. I know I still have yet to buy any "luxury" items on Gaia, and I don't think I ever have in life either. Maybe some day. 3nodding

There will be another one, the last one was such a massive success! I think we held it in October last year? We might have to have some secret mod discussions on the topic, and start brainstorming...

I sell crap back. It was free from the DC, so really I am ahead no matter how little I get for it.
