It was early, but Tuxedopelt had already been out trying to snag some freshkill for the pile. He dropped the frog he had found on the pile and sat for a moment giving a sigh. He looked to the sky wondering when newleaf would arrive, he longed to be full again and was sure his clan mates felt the same.

Tuxedopelt looked towards the nursery wondering how Ebonyheart and the kits were. Pure clan kits, what precious things they were these days. Had every cat lost their mind, could they no longer find the beauty and love in their own clan? He wondered how Starclan still seemed to favor the clans, did they agree with merging of the clans? It can't be that that was what's to come?

Getting to his paws Tuxedopelt began to leave to hunt again. He stopped suddenly something pulling at his heart ever so slightly. His head turned towards the medicine cat's den.

Oh Larksparrow, why did Starclan have to choose you of all the cats? Why did Starclan wish to torment Tuxedopelt with such strong feelings for a cat he can never love. They were testing his loyalty was all Tuxedopelt could do to explain things.

Before he then it his paws had turned and was leading him towards the den. Tuxedopelt was a regular at the den visiting at least once a day even if the clan was very busy with work or through the years danger.

"Larksparrow?" Tuxedopelt called softly at the entrance. "Are you awake?"

Larksparrow's ears twitched as a familiar voice called her name, and she distanced herself from her dream of hunting. Sun was already filtering in through the dense thicket of leaves and branches that covered the den, and her apprentice was already out. Heartpool was gone too, but Larksparrow didn't give it much thought. The light grey cat was always out of camp these days.

She was still a little tired, she'd waited up the night before to ensure that Ebonypaw's kits were really asleep and not planning a moonhigh trek across camp, but the prospect of chatting with her old friend overshadowed any disappointment she had over a few more minutes in her nest.

Larksparrow stretched and padded out of the den, smiling at her visitor.

"Is everything well with you, Tuxedopelt? I hope you don't mind me getting a scrap of fresh kill, I'm starving."

She tilted her head at the pile as she drew closer. It was fairly full, but from last night's hunt, the most recent patrol hadn't returned yet. The food was still good, but she had the urge for some fresh meat after her dream. She'd almost had that mouse!

She frowned, weighing her options. Would Tuxedopelt mind hunting with her?

Tuxedopelt smiled as she came out to great him. Smiling wasn't something he did a lot unless she was around. He blinked his eyes as a caring gesture before speaking.

"I am well, Larksparrow. I don't mind at all, I have not eaten yet myself. How are you this morning?"

Tuxedopelt followed her to the freshkill pile, he beamed at it. Still so full and from the night before no less. This was a good sign for the clan indeed, but in a way he also craved a fresher kill.

"Would you like to do something today, Larksparrow? " Tuxedopelt questioned not sure if she wanted to go out hunting or if she had work to do with herbs and such. "We could go hunting and pick up some herbs on the way. I don't have patrol or hunting duty till tonight."

"It seems you've read my mind," Larksparrow purred. "Starpelt's been more than good about keeping the herb stores full, so unless by some miracle Starclan sends us catmint, which is always welcome, we can concentrate on hunting."

With the eagerness of a kit Larksparrow dashed out of the camp entrance, looking over her shoulder and mewing for Tuxedopelt to follow. She ran for the pure delight of it for a few minutes, being cooped up in camp all the time in case of an emergency always left her yearning for a good chance to stretch her legs. Thankfully Heartpool was still asleep and the white and brown cat had been the first one out. It was a very informal way of deciding who would stay behind, but it worked, allowing for the least amount of communication between the two. Unfortunately the former kittypet had been out more often of late, for what reasons Larksparrow didn't know.

Pushing the thoughts aside Larksparrow slowed, ears perked, listening intently for any rustling in the undergrowth. A frog croaked loudly off to her left, but she had no interest in dashing through bushes for a cold and slimy mouthful when there were better options about.

(I'm thinking they'll wind up at Fourtrees and start contrasting the latest Gathering/Windclan and the way things were handled with Gatherings they attended in the past etc. Then they'll talk about what they miss, the new leadership, and lastly Zira and Vitani will appear and try to get some info on the present Shadowclan, presumably looking for weakness or any way they might worm their way back into the clan to make a takeover from the inside. Then Tux and Larky can talk about their loyalties to the warrior code etc and how the two rogues don't care about it etc, and then they leave them and return to camp.)

"Sounds like a plan. How is Starpelt doing in her training by the way?"

Tuxedopelt smiled as he watched her dash to the camp entrance. For a moment he was in a trance from the feelings that swarmed in his heart and mind. He ran after her not feeling a single ache, when he was with her he felt young again and he hated himself for it in a way.

"So are you still having spats with Heartpool?"

Tuxedopelt really didn't like Heartpool much a kittypet did not deserve the same rank Larksparrow held, much less did it belong in Shadowclan.

After a moment he remembered they were hunting. Tuxedopelt heard the frog waited a moment and when he noticed Larksparrow wasn't after it he was. It wasn't long before dirt flew as he burried the frog. He had no interest in it himself, but surely someone in camp would like it.

"She's doing very well," Larksparrow answered. "Though we haven't had many battles, thank Starclan, so I haven't seen her in action, I know she has an excellent talent for remembering herbs. She's tolerant of Heartpool I suppose, but I think she's a loyal cat and when push comes to shove I think she'd do what was right in the eyes of Starclan."

"To tell you the truth I've not had as many fights with the kittypet over the past few weeks, it always seems like she's out. Probably wandering around some twoleg garden," the white and brown cat spat.

"Nice catch," she mewed as TuxedoPelt buried the frog, and it almost was like they were apprentices again, out on an assessment.

Larksparrow dropped to the ground as she heard a rustle off to her right. Slowly a scrawny mouse wove its way out from under some grass, sniffing. It froze as it caught the scent of the two cats but Larksparrow had already kicked off with her back legs in a pounce. She crushed the little creature and quickly killed it.

"The weather is so nice it would be a shame to eat in the shade of all these pines," she mewed absentmindedly. "It closer to Fourtrees than it is to camp, shall we set our paws in that direction?"
