I have an issue about painting emblems maybe someone can help with.
My chapter's emblem is the ultra U with a red skull over it. It looks really nice on my models, but there's two problems... There's only one of these transfers per transfer sheet, and I suck using transfers, so they keep chipping... I was thinking of making the "skull U" the "Dress" badge and having other marines without it using a standard U or simply the black-and-blue quartered pattern the emblem is backed with. Another idea I had was to use gloss finish to seal in the transfer, but I'm afraid it would ruin it big time. Any suggestions?

I have at least one for you, If your handy with a paint program there is a wonderfully crappy decal program that Testors puts out. It can be found in the hobby section, you can scan and import the icon you like and duplicate it like 30 fold then print it out on a decal sheet ! Its moderately easy to use and install and cost around $10-$14 3nodding

I was looking at that, but I was broke and the box was torn to shreds. Now that that's taken care of, know any good ways to make a decal stay better?

They don't happen to sell special decal papers for laser printers now do they? sweatdrop

Hmm... they might. Or I have one idea that may work. This is a long shot but,
there is a set of special tips for wood burning tools, one is a laserjet heat transfer tip, you might beable to print and hot transfer onto your models, although its risky to use a hot pen on a plastic model.

It basically works by reheating the ink on the paper and making it stick to whatever surface its pressed on. I'm still trying to think of other ways short of making a stamp set.

That's interesting, although melting holes in my shoulderpads isn't something I'm terribly keen on.

Burning? That sounds a bit too risky for me, I think I'll just get an inexpensive inkjet printer instead. HP is tossing them out at €25 these days, not much of a sting on the wallet.

Some Prinnies for my Marauder and some bat decals for the Valkyries and Vultures. Maybe some custom pinup art for a tank or two, can't have tanks without those these day.

The Ultramarine omega is kinda easy to do freehandedly. The skull is a bit trickier, although a bit of practice would help with that as well.

I'm actually prone to just modeling the emblems onto the shoulder pads with a bit of green stuff, although that gets tedious for whole squads at a time.
If you make a mold, you could theoretically put out a good number of emblems in a short amount of time, and just glue those to the shoulder pads. I'm looking into that, but I'll be gone for a while, and won't have access to my supplies.

I really like modeling skulls and laurels, which is what a lot of my sergeants and veterans will be sporting.
I just finished a shoulder pad that I may use on my chapter's honour guard, and I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. Combines imperial skull, laurels and iron halo.

another option for that is to use one shoulderpad as a master, and then get yourself some resin casting supplies (silicone mold compound and epoxy resin) It's not too expensive if you consider how many custom bits you can get out of a gallon of the stuff.
