Hey there! W.I.P
I'm doing this self portrait project in my computer art class in Photoshop, and I was hoping you all could be fresh eyes to tell me what's off/wrong looking in this picture. I've been staring at it way too much and I'm blind to anything. Also if there's any tips you could suggest to help me along the way I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't get a chance to work on photoshop very often so I'm a bit of a nub.
Things I see:
+The lips look a bit off to me, then again I haven't started on them. + I need to smooth out my shading, it's too blocky +Make my overall shading darker, too much light.

(If you're wondering how the picture was taken, it was by scanner.)
Also, I was wondering, for anyone that may watercolor in here, if there's a good paper for doing line art on, that has a decent absorbency that isn't cold press.
I've heard of some cotton based papers that colored inks can be used on, but I have no clue if watercolor would hold to it.
I like to ink and watercolor on my drawings.
:[ I don't have too much stuff in photo form but here's some watercolors/random crap of mine

This one's older:

Hand doodles:

Apologies about the camera ;__; I know some of them are blurry.
That's all x]
Please rip apart or comment! I enjoy any help or suggestions.

the nose is huge and bulbous thats the first thing that popped out at me...
your water colors look childish/unfinished it looks like youre painting it all in one sitting without a lot of planning
i like the shadow/light on the left hand pulling on the chain

You need to really push the whole light/dark aspect of the self portrait. the shadows aren't deep enough and the form of the face is getting lost, as is the angle..so that the features are just looking sort of deformed.
Also, pay closer attention to the angle of the eyes an lips, which you seemed to have changed from the photo. the angle your mouth is at is important in conveying the angle of the face.
it'll look more "right" if you stick to drawing it how it actually looks in the photo.

D: Yeah the nose does stick out a lot @__@ I'll try to go back and fix that the best I can.
On top of adding overall darker shading and more direction of light, I'll go back and work on the lips too, and the eyes, I see how the eyes are off now. Along with how the angle looks of because the rest of these are lacking.
@ Avoirdu: Yeah, most of them are painted in one sitting. I haven't sat down in the longest time and actually WORKED on a painting with planning of some sort. Most of my paintings have been spur of the moment. Due to my lack of time and patience. Which is something I'd like to get better at. Though I was happy with my hand/chain one xD;; Har har.
Thank you for your pointers! :B
