 So... Toastie bought Final Fantasy X the other day because she has x-2 and has been playing x-2 and wanted to play more of x because it's amazing... so she puts the disc into the playstation 2 and it goes all red and comes up with a message saying "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc" and she can't play the game...
Does anyone know why this is happening? It's a playstation 2 greatest hits game and her ps2 worked fine before, why is this happening now? why won't it let me play my game? crying
DDR works fine on it... just not this. It's a pre-played game, but it's from EB so it's been resurfaced, it's in amazing condition for the type of game it is, there's no reason it should be acting like this. crying

Can you trade it into EB Games to get another?
Even if its been resurfaced, you should try getting another disk and seeing if that one works.
I've had to trade in used games like 3 times till I got a working one. >.<

i did get the one year warranty... i should try seeing if there's another disk available i can trade for. I've never had a problem with used disks from eb games before though.☼ ìn my sσƒt sεrvε drεαms...

I think I've gotten that error recently on mine, as well.
What worked for me was to take out the disk (which was Kingdom Hearts 2, which was used before I got it, too) clean it, put it back in, and reset/turn back on the Playstation. That's what solved it for me.
If that doesn't work, clean it again, if you choose.
And, if it still doesn't work, well, maybe the disk is scratched or something. At which point, do what Fort says. XD
Oh, and you might enjoy FFX. I've played neither of the games, as in, picked up a controller and play one, but my brother has played X (not X-2, though), and really enjoyed it. I often watched him play it. And it looks good, too. So, it looks fun, and is, from what I hear. XD

i love it.
So problem solved... for anyone who's curious, it was a defective disk. I found a thread on google that told me how to get the ps2 to run an auto-diagnostic on the disc, and surprise surprise it came out as "unable to read disc" instead of "please insert ps or ps2 format disc" which is a much clearer error message in my opinion.
So we ran out to EB games and explained the situation, they didn't have any more versions of the game traded in, so they called over to the store across the city and managed to find one for me. Pristine condition too, i was ecstatic to say the least, it's not even resurfaced - it's just in that good of condition!
So after $2 for parking, $10 for orange julius' to keep my spirits up, and i don't even know how much for gas across the city and back, i finally got a working copy (i put it in and tested it immediately after getting home) of FFX and tomorrow morning bright and early, i plan on whooping the crap out of some grade A blitzballs. <333☼ ìn my sσƒt sεrvε drεαms...
