Chukiwa hadn't had the best start to life. The second she was born her mother had tried to kill her and it was only by luck that her half brother had been near by had saved her. She was sure he would be close by but wasn't sure how close. Nuku had promised to find some help in bringing her up and that was good enough for her. Chukiwa didn't know why her mother hated her so and her brother had tried to work it out but it had left them both clueless.
She had wandered abit away from her sleeping brother. She wanted to get away and she didn't want him to bring her up either. She was planning her escape but she knew there was no point in doing so while she was so young and it was by pure luck she had survived so far. Her body had to eat solid foods before it was ready to and so it made her ill for a while but Nuku had kept her alive. Now she just had to wait till her brother had taught her how to survive on her own and she would be off, away from here and free.
Stretching a little she clambered onto a near by rock so she could see a little further then she could in the long grass. She couldn't see Nuku anymore but she could see where she had come from. She could find her way back easy enough.
She curled up on the rock allowing the sun rays to bathe her honey coloured coat. She never knew it was because of that beautiful coat that her life had started off so terribly.

Ekundayo had wandered away from her siblings and her grandmother, following what looked to her like three dung beetles racing. Eventually she grew tired of that, especially when they decided to roll their little balls towards her. And that left her to find other entertainment. In the long grasses, it wasn't too hard...The cub pretended to stalk something, she wasn't really sure what it was but it was fun, and occasionally pounced for good measure. Or attempted to pounce. Her second try nearly caused her to come face first with a rock.
She growled at the rock, tail lashing. Stupid rock had come out of nowhere to thwart her fun. She went to clamber onto it in order to better thwart it back, only to find it was already occupied. Ekundayo blinked and twitched her tail. Then she decided the rock wasn't so bad. It had brought her someone to play with!
"Hullo!"

Maybe she just wasn't in the mood but the annoying sound that came from the cub bashing into the rock made Chukiwa far from happy. She gave out a slight hiss and opened one eye to see a cub staring at her. It then spoke. Well she wanted to get away from Nuku, granted she had wanted some time to herself but not everyone can get that now can they?
"Hi." She sounded rather bored in the way she spoke. She was far from being exactly nice. It was probably the state of her unstable family but she really couldn't be bothered to be nice. This cub probably had a lovely life and didn't know what it was like to be despised by your own mother.

The red-eyed cub just swished her tail, a little oblivious to the other cub's...dislike. She didn't exactly have a reason to notice...or want to notice, for that matter. Play was on Ekundayo's mind. And curiosity. She wanted to know who this cub was, where she was from, why was she one the rock, did she have any family? Of course...she remembered that asking all of them at once could...annoy the cub a bit. Or a lot. It seemed to annoy others she knew. So...she started with one question and a statement...and then another question tacked on for good measure.
"What's your name? Mine's Ekundayo. Wanna play?" She didn't climb further onto the rock, not wanting to crowd the other cub...at least not yet. She could do all the crowding she wanted when they played. Especially if it was tag. Ekundayo loved tag.

Chukiwa yawned in response to the questions and statements.
"My name is Chukiwa and no I don't want to play." She might have been a cub but she wasn't an ordinary cub. Maybe she should have taken the time to just relax and play but there was something that was stopping her and so of course she just sat there on the rock staring down at the normal cub that Chukiwa had taken an instant dislike to.
It wasn't nice of her to do what she had just done but then again, she wasn't necessarily what one would expect a cub to be. She had more reason to hate other cubs then someone may normally. She expected all cubs would have a loving home, not imaging that there were others out there whose parents had died. Chukiwa was selfish, it was the only way to describe it.

Ekundayo just blinked. She hadn't gotten that answer from another cub before. Sure...there were lots of times when adults didn't want to play. But...
She looked a bit dejected, dropping off the rock for a moment before hopping back up. "Why not, Chukiwa? Do ya get in trouble for playin'?" That was the only reason Ekundayo could think of for a cub not wanting to play. Didn't help she'd only really seen her siblings before now. But this made her even more curious about Chukiwa. And Ekundayo would follow her curiosity to it's end, for good or bad.

Chukiwa just stared. Oh dear were all cubs this stupid? Granted Chukiwa had to grow up fast but still she looked like a cub and was technically a cub so she felt she had the right to turn around and moan at others. It made sense after all!
"Because I don't want to. Can't you hear properly?" She stared at the cub a little more then turned her back on it and curled back up. Stupid cub. Hopefully if she closed her eyes for long enough when she opened them again that annoying cub would have gone. Oh she could hope!

Ekundayo seemed to shrink a bit, matching the fact she felt a bit small under the other cub's gaze. She dropped back to the ground when Chukiwa turned her back. The dark cub paced about a bit, confused. She had so much to ask...but the lighter cub seemed to be annoyed with her. Annoyed was bad.
Maybe if she asked nicely to join Chukiwa on the rock and stayed quiet, she might get a chance...Ekundayo danced about happily. It was a perfect idea! This time, she didn't jump up, trying to be polite.
"Uhm...Chukiwa? Is it 'kay if I'm up there with ya? I'll be quiet!"

Chukiwa could hear that the cub was still there and it was clearly not good, why could the small cub not get a hint.
"Get a hint, get lost." She growled as she spoke a little annoyed that the cub really didn't get the point.
No wait, telling her to get lost clearly wouldn't be a good idea it wasn't doing much now was it? She got up and turned around to see what the stupid cub wanted.
"What do you want?"

"Well..." Ekundayo paced a bit as she talked. "I wanted ta know more 'bout ya." She stopped pacing and looked up at the other cub. "Because ya seem interesting. And I like learning 'bout others..." She sat down, still looking up, then turned her gaze down to the ground.
"But I can leave if ya want."

Chukiwa looked at the cub and sighed.
"There isn't much to know. Why don't you tell me about you if you really want to stick about." She so didn't want to talk to this cub but then again her brother did go on at her about socalising. At least this way she could keep her brother happy, for a little while at least.

Ekundayo thought for a moment, then smiled up at Chukiwa.
"Well...My sisters and brother and I live with Mama Phye'li...And...I like new things and animals! There's a whole big world...and I wanna explore it someday!" And that was really all she could think of to say. She hadn't really done much yet, except maybe get into trouble for wandering off too far at times...
But that didn't count.

"Your life is just so interesting..." Her voice was full of sarcasm. She hadn't met anyone so boring. She thought Nuku was boring but this girl was even worse then him and she didn't even think that was even possible. Well she had been proved wrong it seemed.
She wasn't going to ask anymore questions, that surely was the end of the conversation wasn't it?

Ekundayo pouted and turned to leave, either finally getting the message or getting bored. She padded off a few steps, then stopped and turned to look back at the rock and Chukiwa.
"At least I know so." And she continued on her way, heading back to her family, feeling more than a little frustrated. She hoped not everyone outside her family was like that...
