Honoka clambered up the wet bark of a fallen stree stump, her paws slipping on the dank lichen that had collected with the morning dew. Once at the top, she peered around with wide eyes, then turned to preen her mane, making sure she got rid of all the sticks and leaves that came with it. Her mane had to be just perfect, and she went through countless efforts to keep it so.

As she did, she gave a tentative flap of her wings, and stared at them curiously. She wondered: maybe she could fly today? It certainly wouldn't hurt to try, and if she flew first, Father would be so proud of her! Crouching low, she wriggled her little yellow toes then pounced into the air, flapping her little wings as hard as she could.

Somewhat expecting the result, she expected the sudden landing, and managed to make it on her feet, as opposed to the last few times she'd tried...which she decided she wasn't going to think about any more. Still curious, she silently began her climb up the tree trunk again, this time to peer out into the forest behind her.

Wasn't her family supposed to be walking with her?

Sighing, she jumped from the tree trunk again, and stoicly walked back in the general direction from where they'd been. She had a habit of walking ahead, too lost in thought to realize it. Chances were, they hadn't even noticed yet.

It was a very nice day, Entei definitely couldn't deny that. He ambled along the soggy grass, relishing the damp feel of the grass under his large paws. The great grey mane that billowed down his back swayed ever so slightly in the gentle breeze that rolled over the land. Spring was on its way and approaching fast. Spring was Entei's favorite season by far. It wasn't too cold nor too hot. Just right. The great cat's gentle brown eyes glittered in the soft morning light that managed to filter through the forest's thick green canopy that hung overhead. He was quite glad the chill of winter was nearly gone. The sight of new grass always seemed to bring peace to him as well as the song of the returning birds. Soon the forets woudl be alive again and his children could experience it all.

Being a father had truly opened his eyes to the wonderous beauty of the world. Sure, he'd admired it before, but not like now. Another odd thing was that almost every thought was accompanied by ' they should see this, ' or 'maybe they'd find that interesting. ' But he couldn't pester them all the time with the things he found fascinating for they were but children and usually found what he found interesting to be boring. He looked around to Espeon and offered a warm smile. He always loved taking these walks with her and their children. It was then he realized that Honoka, their middle child, was not around. At once he found himself grow tense. He didn't like it when they wandered out of sight.

Another thing about parenthood, the not-so-lovely side, was the constant worry. There were so many dangers out there after all. "Honoka," He called out, his deep voice easily cutting through the crisp air. Her perked up his ears, listening intently for a response. All at once however his attention was snatched up by the crazy brown furball who was now weaving in and out of his legs. Entei stopped walking. He was afraid if he continued he'd trip over the furball, or trample her. The small creature didn't bat a lash and came out in front of him, her purple eyes staring up at him excitedly.

"Daddy, pway tag with me!" She demanded in such a cute way it made Entei smile. Then he remembered Honoka was gone and shook his head from side to side sternly. He then took his right paw and gently nudged her aside, bounding forewards before she could have a chance to weave between his legs. She knew that was the best way to get his attention. Amaya huffed, a cute scowl crossing her small features. Her feathered tail twitched from side to side in irritation. Stupid Honoka was hogging all the attention! A thought struck her.

Getting up she quickly pranced over to her mother, looking up at Espeon with big round eyes. "Will mommy pway with meee?" She whined pitifully, doing funny little hops to try and snag her mom's attention.

The weather was exhilarating. The sunshine seeped in through canopy of trees. Light caressed the smiling faces of her loved ones. Warmth from their smiles and playful laughter consoled Espeon’s heart as she strolled behind the family. Her eyes were sparkling with overflowing emotion as she thought back onto the day when they first met. It was as if spring began that day and ceased to change. The beauty of this season of new beginning enchanted her. The scuffling smaller animals and twittering birds welcomed the family's jaunt. It was the per-

Espeon snapped out of her reverie when her mate called out a name. Parenthood came hand in hand with worry. If only the little ones understood. The purple optics searched ahead while trying not to think of possible dangers. “Honoka~ Don’t wander ahead.” The warning was stern and if she was not a mother, the violet feline might never have come up with such a tone.

But Hiei was used to listening to his mother scold them if they acted up. He’d much rather hear compliments, but grown-ups were strange sometimes. Now his two younger sisters were hogging all the attention. Daddy had his eyes on Honoka and even Amaya tried to snag his mommy’s care. Noticing his scowl, Espeon licked both her babies on the forehead before replying, “Of course Mommy will play with you two. But let’s get your sister over here so she can play, two.”

She flashed a glance over at Entei and gave him a look that said sh'll preoccupy the two kids temporarily.

"Coming, Otoo-san."

Honoka bounded back in sight of her parents, obediently looking up at her father as she ruffled her mane playfully. She wove her way through his legs, curling up close beside him, and looked out to the other three, her mother included. A somewhat hurt expression colored her face, and she stood still from under her father's protection.

"But Okaa-san, I don't want to play." She wriggled her way free to show off her small wings flapping on her back experimentally. "I want to fly. Can you show me how to fly?" Honoka's preoccupation with becoming airborn had been told before, though more exclusively to her father, and she looked back up to him with a trusting glance.

"Otoo-san, will you teach me how to fly?"

Amaya noticed a bundle of red off to the side and recognized it as her brother. When she chanced a side glance at him, he was scowling. She was about to stick out her small pink tongue at him when suddenly she was licked right on the forehead. "Ewww!" She squeeked loudly, stopping and starting to rub her forehead on the grassy ground. When she was satisfied she'd gotten all the icky stuff off it she sat her little rump down in a huffy manner. Why did Honoka always have to wander off?! If it wasn't for her, she'd be playing with her mommy right now!

Entei looked back at Espeon and caught her look. He gave her a thankful smile before turning around when he heard Honoka's response. Instantly relief washed over him. Perhaps he'd been foolish to worry so much. As soon as she came into sight Entei offered her a benevolent grin and was about to greet her when she wandered under his legs and came up beside him, beginning to speak. He watched her flap her tiny wings with a curious glance. He knew how much she wanted to roam the skies and this amused him greatly. He'd had the same infatuation with the skies when he'd been a child. He looked to Espeon.

"Would you mind looking after Amaya and Hiei while I teach Honoka how to fly?" He asked politely, his eyes asking her forgiveness. He didn't like pushing off two rambunctious little ones onto her but this would be a good chance to demonstrate to Honoka how to fly. He knew her wings were much too small for such a feat but trying never hurt anything right? He would definitely make it up to Espeon somehow. He'd think of some way.
