No it is NOT true, it is someone who is trying to hack. I have gotten similar pms saying that I will get banned for something that I didnt even do but I just report them and delete them and nothing happens to my account.

That's definitely fake. First of all, any messages from Gaia would come from "admin" or something like that, not a regular username. And second, if you were a hacker inside someones account, then obviously you know the password. So you telling the admins your password wouldn't prove anything!
The maintainers of a website have no reason to ever ask for your password. I'd report whoever sent you that message. sad

Count your blessings that you posted here first!! Like everyone said, Gaia will never ask for a password. And you had common sense to notice the stupid time limit. If Gaia is going to ban you, they won't ask for a reply, they'll just ban you. A friend (MinervaEvenstar) was banned last week for refreshing pages because of the error message that popped up after she posted. She went back to see if it posted and refreshed. I, personally, know the feeling of being scammed/hacked. It's a nightmare, to say the least. I don't wish it on anyone. And Gaia doesn't even send an aotomated email when you send the hacking report. I'm slowly recovering.
BTW - THANK YOU "anonomous benefactor" pirate I appreciate your help.

Crikey - why would they ban you for refreshing pages?? How is that a bad thing to do? I should maybe check out the rules and guidelines again, because I don't really know what they ban you for.
