What is in a spirit, and what is within their capabilities?Known by many different names across the globe, the spirit of Barghest is more commonly known as the 'Hellhound' (Or more easily recognized as such). Other names the deceased species can lay claim to are; Mauthe Dog, Gwyglli, Black Dog, Death-Hound, Gurt Dog, Old Shuck, Devil's Dandy Dogs, Wisht Hound, Padfoot, Hooter, Moddey Doo, Black Shag, Barghest, and many, many others...
A great many of the physical descriptions concerning the hellhounds differentiate between cultures but a few of the similarities tend to add up to an abnormally large, black shaggy dog, with glowing eyes, and a howl that forever warns of impending doom- be it at their design or anothers. Just what can he do? Abilities The Animal Basics; overall, he possesses the heightened senses of sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch. His 'sixth sense' is also much stronger than your average animals (predominantly pertaining to the areas of intuition, and an almost precognitive ability of 'knowing' things before they happen. Although he does not know specifically, he just has a heightened sense or feeling) In addition to these senses, Barghest has superior strength, stamina, and power to go right along with it- a more natural, animalistic, ability due to his physique and constant exercise. His 'otherworldly' abilities are few and basically indirectly offensive and defensive types of 'magics' or 'powers'... Shadow Blend; an ability common amongst 'dark' creatures in which the entity 'disappears' from within plain sight by stepping into a shadowy area. Depending on the species, and how dark the area, a creature can be capable of total invisibility and intangibility. But in most cases, it is a form of camouflage used to prevent predators from finding prey, as well as vice versa. Barghest himself is not particularly great at the skill, but he uses it passably well enough on a rare occasion. Gwyglli Howl; a canine howl or baying used to paralyze another creature in fear long enough to attack. It is often used as a scare tactic, intimidation technique amongst rivaling packs, or as a preemptive strike against an enemy or food. It is not a common ability or skill easily mastered by any otherworldly species outside of the Hellhounds- near impossible outside of the canid branch. Seele Blockierte is classified as a psychic talent, it is a natural ability that prevents others with or without mind/soul intrusive powers from gaining access/insight to the creatures mind or soul. If one were to attempt to get beyond the natural block, they would come across the sensation of being pulled up short or having run into some sort of barrier or wall. The level of strength of the ability varies between each species but ultimately grows stronger with age. The ability is most superior within the Hellhound species, possible reasons are many, but none know for sure. The last is a natural talent reserved strictly to the Hellhound species- and that's the ability to bring doom, death, or injury upon another creature by visiting them directly or just by being nearby. The extent of such an unusual ability varies from Mauthe to Mauthe- mostly this natural talent inflicts minor 'doom' or 'injury' upon the intended victim; usually displayed by an unexplained case of clumsiness by the victim or said victim becoming the target of accidents. The victims actual dying depends on the age, strength, and overall will/desire of the dog- and when it appears before the target.

He who cares for the child, no? Full Name: Desmond Lyeth Baits -------Sex: Male -------Age: 32yrs -------Hght: 5'9ft -------Wght: 215lbs Works For: *Left Kingdom Investigations (LKI "Nickles" / "Monster Police")General Appearance: Wavy, dark-brown hair, lightly tanned skin, and dark circles forever line his sharp blue/gray eyes. His build is fit, with noticeable muscle definition. Distinguishing Marks: Five ear piercings, three tattoos, and a tendency to dress in simple black(and occasionally varying shades of blue) clothing.Basic Personality: Once upon a time he was careless, overly rude, sarcastic, and spiteful to anyone and everyone out of sheer habit. Over time, that changed- Desmond became quieter as he aged, his tongue no less scathing, but used with more discretion. He does not waste words and has little to no sympathy for those in emotional crisis or turmoil for he often sees no reason in such asinine displays. Overall, he is described as a cold, cruel, and unfeeling b*****d who cares for nothing but his work... few have been wrong about such an assumption.Brief Historical Summary of a Sorts: Desmond Baits lives in a simple, two story house that looks like a very unremarkable apartment. He has no siblings, no cousins, no living relatives aside from his estranged father, and doesn't have any real, close friends outside of his coworkers. He has no pets- but has one, animal 'room mate' that does not pay rent, comes and goes as he pleases, makes a point to demand a considerable amount of food, is prone to randomly attacking him, destroys perfectly good house-hold items on fits of whimsy, and is the size of a Labrador despite having the appearance of your typical house cat. This cat is called 'Cylus', and Desmond does not exactly recall how they came to be living together, but instead remembers a particularly stormy night, bright green eyes, and a god-awful racket at three in the morning.
He has worked at LKI for a full decade in which he routinely worked out in the field studying and identifying a variety of otherworldly creatures. It has been a little over three months into his eleventh year at Left Kingdom Investigations, and Desmond finds himself to have been promoted to the head of LKI's newly developed branch- Detection & Detainment. Baits must now hunt and capture the law-breaking creatures he'd once merely studied and identified at a perfectly safe, and far-removed distance.
Cold and clinical facts aside, Baits has made a staunch habit of ignoring, or otherwise refusing to believe in the existence of spirits or otherworldly entities that could not be classified as 'real' or of physical being- although the why of it is currently unknown... This perhaps may relate to Desmond's being followed by the spirit of a long-dead species known as the Hellhound, since birth- but nothing has been proven thus far...
Additional: -pending- *LKI or Left Kingdom Investigations: A high ranking agency specialized in taking care of any unsightly messes, disturbances, and or law-breaking that occurs should any creature categorized under the Left Animal Kingdom be identified and reported. They are generally responsible for policing outbreaks and disputes amongst the 'monsters' as well as basic upkeep/cleanup duty when large-scale crimes or offenses are committed.
Over time, the agency has garnered a vast amount of nicknames for the work they perform; the most commonly used one happens to be 'Nickles', the exact why of it is still unknown but is suspected to somehow relate to the backwards pronunciation of the abbreviated name of the agency itself.

The beast who cares not. Full Name: Cylus O'Reilis -------Sex: Male -------Age: 74yrs -------Hght: 3.4ft -------Wght: 81 lbs General Appearance: A black and white, 'house cat' the size of fully grown lab. Has white from chin to underbelly, and matching 'sock' forepaws. He also possesses a stockier and more compact, muscular build than regular animals his size.Basic Personality: As far as Desmond can tell, Cylus is a temperamental, grouchy, and highly territorial beast that demands a certain level of recognition, respect, and 'perks' for living within the man's house.Brief Historical Summary of a Sorts: He is the only creature of his species and has been categorized as an animal somewhere between the Left and Right Kingdom. It's hypothesized that he's the resulting offspring of two similar beasts from both of the kingdoms. Such is unverified, his talents that have so far been identified- the ability to converse in several different languages, anything beyond that is unknown. Additional:
"There's something entirely too sinister about a cat with yellow green eyes staring at you while he's telling you how to kill something before it kills you."
-Desmond Baits

The space we take to live and breathe. Living in a completely unremarkable, two-story house that more closely resembles an old apartment building than your classic, two-story, white-washed, green-trimmed little house on the block... is where Desmond, Cylus, and now Barghest exist within. It was dirt cheap when he bought it and nine years later, it's worth even less than what he'd paid for it. Especially since the neighborhood went to s**t and the crime rate in the area sky-rocketed. The small lawn is in need of both a good watering and mowing, the house needed a thorough washing along with several new coats of paint (what was once a plain, slate-gray with charcoal trim, now had chipped paint, scuff marks and dirt smudges from bad weather, and far too much graffiti done by uncreative vandals. 'f**!' and 'Kahklick!' got old, yet the cheerful epitaph of 'The End is Very ******** Nye,' still made him grin.) Basement In this dank and decrepit dwelling, is where the washer, dryer, water-heater, and many other electrical appliances live. If it's large, clunky, and full of all sorts of sharp, hard, and unforgiving angles that make the house work and function- it lives in the basement. The stairs that lead into this dark hole in the ground are old, creaky, wooden, and evil enough to give you splinters through even the thickest socks and slippers (occasionally a sneaker too if it's feeling particularly spiteful,) should you dare tread upon it. Other than metal appliances, evil stairs, cold cement walls, and floors, the basement houses random junk in boxes that litters it's 'living room'. In the basement, there is one large room that is walled off and claims a good third of it's dark gloom. Inside this room is Desmond's extensive library and office, or study. The wall protecting this room from the rest of this house is cement reinforced with steel, as is the door(which also possesses three dead-bolt locks that require three separate keys. And a fingerprint and retinal confirmation scanner. It cost Desmond more than a godamned pretty penny, in fact, he was still paying it off, eight years later, and would continue to do so for the next ten.) Ground Floor In which you can enter the house through either the front door, seven different windows, or the back-door located off to the side of the living room (Sliding glass doors are surprisingly easier to replace then good, solid oak.) The ground floor of Desmond's house possesses the kitchen, the living room, the dining room, a pointless hallway, a decent bathroom (even if the sink had a habit of not shutting off and thereby flooding,) and a nice guest room that had far too many visitors considering that the owner of the house didn't exactly have a lot of close friends. The first floor is also most notably recognized as 'Cylus's Territory', where one must tread with extreme caution lest you feel so inclined as to visit the local E.R. that happens to not only know you by name and face, but also as to why you're there on that particular day. (Was it worth it, Desmond? Could you not just rent The Incredibles, instead of risking your legs -again- to watch the dumb movie on your television in the living room?) When attempting to make your way safely through this forbidden territory, you'd do well to carry offerings of large, uncooked slices of prime-choice meat. Second Floor The second and most unimaginative of all levels of Desmond's house- contains his bedroom, a large bathroom, the spare bedroom (which was more or less the computer room seeing as it had no bed, but three computers, a bookshelf, and futon couch that could have once unfolded into something closely resembling a bed- but didn't because the frame had rusted one night when he'd accidentally left it out in the rain,) and a moderately sized storage closet. A storage closet that would soon be emptied of all contents save a pile of pillows, blankets, sheets of newspaper strategically laid out on the floor, and two bowls. Whether or not it has become readily apparent or obvious, this is Barghest's new room. Or until the insufferable mutt learned to not immediately destroy everything and anything in sight.
