PAPER MARlO

PostPosted: Thu Mar 06, 2008 1:03 pm

A good friend of mine bought a AzaLea bass from a pawn shop about a week ago and since then we have been trying to get someone information the the bass. We havent been able to find a thing about this bass and it's staring to confuse us.

So I was wondering if anyone here has heard of this bass or give me some information on it. smile

Thanks in advance.

Some pics would be great, but in all likelihood it's a cheap Asian Fender knockoff (likely Korean or Chinese), assuming of course it's a Fender style instrument.

I no its suppose to look like a fender but it might take a day or 2 to get a picture of it.

well I couldn't find any thing about them on harmony central, which was odd, I'd probably bet that its a knock off of some thing.

fender has a very generic shape. lots of cheaper guitars are that shape. i currently have a stagg that is "fender style". later this week i should be getting a fender fretless though.

Yep, they're popular mainly because people know the shapes and people figure they may be good enough to trick people into thinking it's a Fender. That and Leo Fender didn't have the foresight to trademark his designs, though some measures have been taken in the recent past (you'll notice Fender knockoffs and boutique builders of Fender like instruments like Lakland, Sadowsky, and Valenti don't use the Fender headstock, but a slight variation of it), it's also why you don't see Ric style knock offs, they trademarked every piece their instruments and prosecuted anyone that used their designs anyway to the furthest extent they could, they even go after people trying to sell their old 70's Ibanez, Greco, and Univox Ric clones on eBay, it's so hardcore that if you want a Ric truss rod cover, you have to send back the one you're going to replace to prove you really own a Ric. But anyway, Fakenders are easy to replicate, you can use 6-7 piece bodies, slap some paint and a pickguard on there, you've yourself a Fakender.
