It wasn't sunset, and he wasn't up as far on the mountain as he tended to go, but none of that mattered. He knew his sister would come. It was his opinion that Amary was the best one of his family for Gemma to meet first. Amary would be thrilled to meet his new mate anyway, and truthfully, she was the one he was most comfortable presenting his news to.
So he stood proudly beside Gemma as the run rose over the horizon, a fresh morning breeze ruffling their manes. Amary always came when he needed her. He had no doubts it would be any different this time. "Amary is winged, like you," he spoke softly to his lovely mate, using his low tone as an excuse to lean closer to her, reveling in her nearness and in her scent. "She loves to fly, and it quite good at it." He paused to think about what else he should impart about her. "She isn't a mare to choose a mate, though. It would be like binding her wings." His sentiment was matter-of-fact. "At least for now, that's how she sees it. But she is a very loving soquili." He beamed, and his glow was twice as bright, for thinking of his sister while standing next to his love. Until Gemma had come along, Amary had been the light of his life. Eagerly, he returned his eyes to the skies, to search for a sign of her approach.

"I'm afraid I'm not the most skilled at flight, so she rivals me in that," Gemma answered Leon's description of his sister's flight aptitude. This much was true as Gemma usually had her feet firmly on the ground, using her wings instead for her chosen work rather than soaring with the clouds. As for the other information, while she was certain her father would not approve of such things, it was not her place to judge whether or not the female would take a mate or be 'free'. A choice was a choice, and it was not hers to make. "I'm sure she is, Leon. I doubt you'd be so fond of her if she wasn't."
Still, despite the reassurance of how loving she was, Gemma was nervous. And why shouldn't she be, considering she was meeting her mate's family? At least it wasn't all at once. That would have been the most frightening thing in the world - not even Leon had to do that!
"Do you think she'll really come? Have you sent her word?"

He blinked at Gemma for a moment, broken out of his reverie. "Ah... well, no," he confessed slowly, his expression implying surprise at himself for not having done so. "I just... wait, and she comes." When he stopped to think about it, the very idea was rather baffling. "I don't know how or why. It's just how it's always been." He blinked at his mate, then broke into a huge grin. "Silly, huh?" Chuckling, he turned his eyes to the sky again.
"Somehow 'Mary and I have always been close, almost like you hear twins are." It was something he'd treasured since he was a small foal, too. His close relationship with his outgoing sister had provided a balance for his own withdrawn, shy nature. "She's always seemed like another part of me, as if she's all the things I can't be." He tipped his head at her then, an almost bashful smile curving his muzzle. "But you are what completes me." Sighing happily, he leaned into her and breathed in her scent.
"Now if only she'd come before I get... distracted." He gave her a suddenly wicked grin, then blushed right to the tips of his ears, and hastily changed the subject. "Are you close with your siblings?"

"Silly, yes," Gemma said, being the practical mare that she was - but Leon was a dreamer and that was something she fiercely loved about her mate. Someday it may get on her nerves, but she could never imagine that day truly coming, thankfully. "But a lot of things in life work and are silly, so there's not much room to say on that, is there?" The mare laughed and slipped a wing against him, nosing at him lovingly when he leaned into her.
"Close to my siblings? Very. Our family is very close and we were raised with the most loving parents you could imagine. Aedelstan was always a wee bit standoffish with us, but we're still close...Raphael, on the other hand..." A smile split across her muzzle, "He's my best friend in the world, and my protector. He'd be the first to come running when I got hurt on my adventures to save animals even though his healing powers were less than mama's or Ae's. He's who I went to when I met you, he's the one who always looks out for me. I love him so very much. So, I know what you mean, but maybe not to that extent you have with Amary."

Though she'd always prided herself on many things about herself up to and including her perception, Amary wasn't the sort of mare that spent a lot of of time wondering 'what if'. Even if she WERE the sort to wonder 'what if,' the idea that her dearly beloved brother was standing out on THEIR mountain talking about her to a mare, his MATE, would likely be far from her mind. And it wasn't that she lacked confidence in her brother or his abilities; on the contrary, if there was anyone that had any reason to be truly confident in Leon's charm, it would be his sister (at least in her own mind).
It's just that, for all her dramatic and romantic and exciting notions, Amary was in many ways a creature of habit who tended to expect some sort of constancy in all things.
And that was part of the reason why Amary was once again winging her way mountainwards, her brightly colored body dancing along through blue sky. As always, she flew with a bright and sprightly energy, twirling and diving and flipping about like an aerial acrobat.
Though it had been a few weeks since she'd last seen her brother at their usual meeting place, she hadn't given up hope; after all, Leon was nothing if not dependable; besides, after an absence of THIS long, just think of all they'd have to talk about!

Something made him look up just then, and there she was, dancing on the wind, as beautiful and graceful as ever. His heart always swelled proudly when he set eyes upon her. Quite honestly, though it just wasn't the same kind of ecstasy he had when he saw his love. "Look Gemma, here she comes!" He gave her a quick nuzzle along the jaw and again tipped his head skyward.
Meanwhile, his mind was clicking in the background about her brothers. He suspected his slight twinge of jealousy at the closeness and time spent with Rapheal was something akin to what she might feel about him and Amary. Mentally he gave a nod of agreement and acceptance. At least it showed they both loved deeply, and long. It sent a shiver of delight up his spine to consider the many years of love stretching ahead of them. It made him want to rush through these introductions so that they could begin their life together properly.
"Amary! Come down, lovely peacock, agile hawk!" His voice carried laughter and beckoning up to his sister while he pawed the rock impatiently.

Gemma raised her head upward, watching the female wind soar through the sky with a slightly nervous look upon her face. Oh dear, now that she was here it was a bit of a nerve wracking experience. But it'd be okay. Actually, it would be more than okay, because Leon had just nuzzled her and her worries kind of fluttered away into the wind.
The mare in the air was actually quite good at flight - better than she was by far, anyway, and it made her smile while watching her. Maybe she could get some aero-acrobat lessons. That'd be nice. Then again, most of her wing usage was on the ground.
"Well, here we go," She murmured softly, waiting for the other to land upon the rocks.
