Maybe they did switch it. On the other hand, not to make the Corpse look bad or anything, it could have been real. I mean, it wouldn't be the first time US troops have killed a dog over there. They ARE wild animals, and there are quite a few reasons to kill them. Of course, throwing it over a cliff isn't the prefferred method.

eek *IS IN UTTER SHOCK* I didnt think a marine would actually give it the possibility of it being real.
Besides f those were the reasons for killing it he already touched it so he screwed up either way.

well, you know, Marines and other personell get bored over there. And dogs in Iraq are alot different from dogs in the US. I'm not gonna try and justify it, because it was wrong, but I would not be suprised if it were real. Honestly there were a number of times i wanted to shoot the damn things just to get them to shut up. Never did shoot them, but I admit, I wasn't above throwing a bottle of water at them.

Honestly it was pretty stupid of them to film that in uniform and put it in the public view (especially youtube) regardless if it's real or fake. What sort of image are they trying to give?
Anyway I do find it interesting how it didn't start to yelp until quite a few seconds after it was thrown, I would think that a dog would cry immediately when you throw them. Also it didn't appear to move, struggle or flail before or after the throwing.
However I do find it quite possible that it was real, as there is also a longer video that shows marines throwing stones and wounding a dog...along with (I believe, not sure) having sheep go through mines and watching them blow up.

So i was reading the paper, and this was mentioned in the editorials. Basically, and I agree, the only crime is that they posted the video on Youtube. Marine Commanders order the shooting of stray dogs all the time. They spread disease, they're distractions, and they give away troop positions. When I was their, a bomb dog handler gunned down 2 dogs for growling. A legitimate action on the handler's part. They are not pets, nor should they be thought of as pets. Even the term stray is wrong. In reality, they are wild animals and pests. While this may be hard for civilians to accept, it's life. The Marines in the video, while it wasn't the best way to do it, were likely following a legitimate, lawful order. Their crime was sharing their combat humor with a world that can't understand.
