Forewarning, if you're touchy about religion, you probably don't want to read.

Well last weekend my mom started hitting me with the whole 500 questions about the girl I've been trying to hook up with. The first 400 actually went well, almost approving... not that I care, seriously, just appeasing her so I can stay at the dorms in my college. Then we got to religion... sweet Jesus... my mom is devout Protestant, the girl I'm infatuated with is Catholic, guess why mommy doesn't approve? I could seriously care less, but I finally meet a girl who's not trouble, and my mom hates her because she's catholic. eek

Oh well, guess I've secured my spot in hell in her eyes, now to get back to preparing for my date.

Wow, that is something. I have never understood this whole the Protestant hatred of the Catholic. I can understand disagreeing with a religious fracture but honestly there is no need. Why can't religion be about the person and not how they practice their faith or the denomination they are in.
Well i hope the date goes well. good luck!!!
P.S. i will probably see you in hell, so you won't be alone. whee

Something came up so we won't be seeing each other until Sunday, and our friend Z is coming along. xp Not really a date no more.

Hey, if I really gave a ******** what my mom thinks I would call off spending time with her. Emily is the best thing to come into my life since... air and a pulse.

My mom dislikes catholics... but it's more their attitude. At least the ones she's seen, and I've noticed it as well.

I've had co-workers tell me they can do whatever the hell they want, 'cause after they get out of confession they're cleared again. The protestant view is to try to not sin, but some catholics don't view it that way anymore.

My mom told me of a girl when she was younger who said she loved being catholic so she could wear the rosary and it would draw guys eyes to her boobs. Thumbs up for that girl, it's not very hard to get guys to look there in the first place.

My boyfriend happens to be southern baptist, even though he lives in the mid-states. I happen to be Bapeterian... that is I was raised presbyterian and now I go to a southern baptist church... but my church now is very presbyterian, lol.

I would rather not date somebody outside of my religion, as I want kids and when it comes to having kids... religion is a big deal. Very few can balance out raising their kids one religion or the other or even both. People become more religious as they get older, especially after having kids, and it strains the relationship... you want your kids to go to church, but daddy doesn't so why should they. It's just very difficult.

But for just dating, I don't see a problem. My cousin was presbyterian, now she's catholic because of her husband. As long as you try to work it out before getting married, religion shouldn't be the reason a parent dislikes a person.

i cant stand most catholics (ghostys point on confession is one of the more grating attitudes i cant stand. .....and i am catholic....well....im pretty sure i think i am.....hell i dont know anymore haha.)

i personally cant stand the over zealous ones who cant comprehend that it is possible for science to not contradict religion and viceaversa ('nother disscussion for another time.)

ive noticed religion being more of a nerve striker for older generations than the more recent.

i believe my first girlfriend was a catholic (in the best naughty schoolgirl way, in the worst devout way) but my grandmother approved (well the one who is a hardcore catholic/christian). the second was scorned the moment she said she was protestant (though she scored points for getting my a** back in a church)

my parents never had that much of an issue with it, at least what i can visibly tell. then again, i wont truley know till ive dated a jewish or islamic girl.

Should I have mentioned she was only raised catholic? She's more or less nondenominational like me right now. Hell she dropped out of her high school simply because she hated dealing with a catholic high school, she got a jump on college though, she's already a Junior and she's just a wee bit older than me.

Good grief. x_X

Christians are christians.

None of this "catholic", "baptist", "presbytirian" stuff. You guys worship the diety known as Yaweh, Jehova, commonly referred to as God the Father, and believe that jesus christ is god's begotten son who rose from the dead so you could hunt for chocolate bunny-eggs.

Ouch, harsh words but true. At least we don't eat the a real bunny covered in chocolate *ponders for second*. To be honest the religious zealous who say things like Gays shouldn't marry because its says so in our bible and my favorite "Christians are the most prosecuted people in America." really annoy me to the point of atheism but i am nondenominational and spiritual.

Sorry to hear it isnt a real date. Umm i hope that doesn't mean she isn't into you, cause it does sound like something a girl might if she wanted to indirectly say this isn't a date.

That's like trying to say Mormons are Christians.

Catholics and protestants are christians, but it is a bigger deal going down into denominations and ways of worship. Hell, the catholic bible is different from the protestant bible.

If somebody tells me mormons are Christian, I'm sorry, I'm going to laugh in their face.

Islam believes in Jesus, and that he was a great prophet... Jesus was a jew, his first followers were jews... so one could argue Christianity is just a jewish sect. There's a lot more to it than what God you worship and believing Christ was the saviour...

I mean, they still have different sects of judaism and muslim, it's not an uncommon practice.

It's always hard to say with Emily, she goes so far out of her way to be nice to people. She's really got a lot on her mind this weekend and I try not to dig to deep when someone just wants their space, so I told her my phones always on if she ever felt like talking. She thanked me for being supportive and we met up today, had lunch and I said my good bye until Sunday. It's all kind of iffy wether or not Z is coming, she kind of invites herself to anything we do alot of the time. sad

Well did you tell Z you were hoping to have some one on one time with Emily like a date or that is was a date. I am sure if you told her that you wanted to be alone with Emily cause it was/is a date she would understand. I mean who wants to be the third wheel or the blocker on someones date or in this case iffy date? No one i tell you, no one(except for mean people and you friend doesn't sound mean).

Totally, nobody wants to be a third wheel.

Unless they misunderstand and do it anyways.

Or are assholes, which I doubt your friend is.
