Have you ever heard a song and thought that it went right along with the Harry Potter universe? Well...I know I have. Loads of times. So now, in this thread, you can put the songs you have heard that would go right along with HP.
The Rules:
1. Please, try not to post a song that has previously been posted. 2. Keep the language at a minimum. Bleep it out if need be. I am sure there are people who are young readers who will see this. 3. You can post links to the videos or lyrics if you want to. 4. The songs can be to shippings, specific characters, situations (in canon or fanon), and whatever else you can think of. 5. Please, try to provide a description of what, to you, makes the song fit into the Harry Potter universe. 6. Remember to put the title of the song and the name of the artist in your post. 7. No WizardRock songs please. Those songs were written strictly to go with the books and using those songs defeats the purpose of this thread.
I shall start.
I think that In The End by Linkin Park fits into the Harry Potter universe in general because, if when you listen to the lyrics, it describes the struggle that Harry went to. It talks about how time is short, and there is never enough for what we all want. Though, I do disagree with the fact that 'in the end it doesn't even matter' because all the work the characters did to bring down the dark side did matter. But I can also see how this song can be put towards Dumbledore because Harry placed his trust in the man, and Dumbledore abused that trust.

Oh I love this topic! Prepare for allot of songs!
First off I feel that the song (Spoilers)Hey Jude (ATU), fits both Harry, and Ron's issues with girls...For one in Ron's case he has the lack of confidence to ask Hermione out. Or even confront her. "Hey Jude (Ron) don't be afraid you were made to go out and get her..." (Beetles ATU remix). Also "Hey Jude (Ron) don't let me down you have found her now go and get her..." (Beetles ATU remix). I can see Harry thinking that, or at least everyone else in the known wizard word! In Harry's case he was one, afraid to for himself, that he might hurt Ginny. But the truth was not seeing her was even more hurtful to her.
By the Beetles ATU version Hey, Jude, don't make it bad Take a sad song and make it better Remember to let her into your heart Then you can start to make it better
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid You were made to go out and get her The minute you let her under your skin Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, hey, Jude, refrain Don't carry the world upon your shoulders Well don't you know that its a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder
Hey, Jude! Don't let her down You have found her, now go and get her Remember, to let her into your heart Then you can start to make it better.
So let it out and let it in, hey, Jude, begin You're waiting for someone to perform with And don't you know that it's just you, hey, Jude, You'll do, the movement you need is on your shoulder
Hey, Jude, don't make it bad Take a sad song and make it better Remember to let her into your heart Then you can start to make it betterThe next song is an all time favorite of mine called These Days, by Chantal Kreviazuk. This song represents I think the whole Harry Potter Series in the fact of just having an unbreakable friendship. Just getting past today, and living for the future. Most of Harry Potters conflicts involved a fear for the future and what lies ahead.
What's this life anyway? What's it to you and me? What's it to anyone? Who are we supposed to be? Make me a storybook Write me away from here I need a different now
Where we can wear each other for awhile I'll len you my tears if I could borrow a smile I'll get through tomorrow somehow today Happy After...
Once upon these days
There's four roads to anywhere Four ways to everything We were unbreakable We spoke our destiny Let's take a moment out Go were we never go Let's make a new world now
Where we can wear each other for awhile I'll lend you my tears if I could borrow your smile We'll get through tomorrow somehow today Happy After...
Once upon these days
Then one day we'll find when we're looking back at this time Wondering how we've come so far from this When we close our eyes
What's this life anyway What's it to you and me What are we doing here Who are we supposed to be I'll take a better world I'll take anything I'll take our little world now
Where we can wear each other for awhile I'll lend you my tears if I could borrow your smile We'll get through tomorrow somehow today Happy After...
Once upon these days

Oh I have another one, sorry for the double post!
The last song for now is Let It Be, by the Beetles ATU version. I think the song goes for Harry, and most everyone who was affected by the final battle. It goes with out much explaining, in my opinion it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. But Mother Mary in these songs for Harry could possibly be replaced by all of the ghosts and spirits who visit him...
When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, let it be. For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see, there will be an answer. let it be.
Let it be, let it be, .....
And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, let it be. I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, .....

I think "BREAKING THE HABIT" applies to when Harry's mind is being invaded by Voldemort. It also applies to the 4th and 5th books, I think. Here are the lyrics:
Memories consume Like opening the wound I'm picking me apart again You all assume I'm safe here in my room Unless I try to start again
[Bridge:] I don't want to be the one The battles always choose 'Cause inside I realize That I'm the one confused
[Chorus:] I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream I don't know why I instigate And say what I don't mean I don't know how I got this way I know it's not alright So I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit Tonight
Clutching my cure I tightly lock the door I try to catch my breath again I hurt much more Than anytime before I had no options left again
[Bridge:] I dont want to be the one The battles always choose 'Cause inside I realize That I'm the one confused
[Chorus:] I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream I don't know why I instigate And say what I don't mean I don't know how I got this way I'll never be alright So, I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit Tonight
[Bridge:] I'll paint it on the walls 'Cause I'm the one at fault I'll never fight again And this is how it ends
[Chorus:] I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream But now I have some clarity to show you what I mean I don't know how I got this way I'll never be alright So, I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit I’m breaking the habit Tonight

SPOILER.. In White Well I think that Starlight by Muse can be applied to how Snape feels about Lily. How he loves her and always did until his death. This song is just perfect for the whole situation. Its a beautiful and sad song full of longing and loneliness that completely describes SnapeHere is the link to see it... Starlight by Muse"Starlight" Far away This ship is taking me far away Far away from the memories Of the people who care if I live or die Starlight I will be chasing the starlight Until the end of my life I don't know if it's worth it anymore Hold you in my arms I just wanted to hold You in my arms My life You electrify my life Let's conspire to re-ignite All the souls that would die just to feel alive But I'll never let you go If you promised not to fade away Never fade away Our hopes and expectations Black holes and revelations Our hopes and expectations Black holes and revelations Hold you in my arms I just wanted to hold You in my arms Far away This ship is taking me far away Far away from the memories Of the people who care if I live or die And I'll never let you go If you promise not to fade away Never fade away Our hopes and expectations Black holes and revelations Our hopes and expectations Black holes and revelations Hold you in my arms I just wanted to hold You in my arms I just wanted to hold

Oh, I am so happy to see a response to this subject!
And SuperPartyGal (if i got your name wrong, sorry, but I am not looking at then names) I agree that These Days does resemble life in the HP. Universe.
Okay. I have another one.
24 Hours by JEM
24 Hours - HP Style
I think that this song resembles how the world is during times of war. In general, this can apply to life. Its a countdown to the end of whatever. You could end up dead at any moment, which is what this says. I can imagine this is how all felt the hour before the fighting began (DH spoilers) with the hour that Voldemort gave them to turn Harry over.

It's not that great of a fit, but this song really makes me think of the general atmosphere during the first war. With the tension and quiet fear, and the knowledge that someone you know will die, and the uncertainy in the air.
Murder By Death - Steam Rising
There is steam rising from the gravel on the road There is black coal filling up our homes It seeps through the window cracks It slips through the floorboards The mortar is turning black The foundation starts to crack Honey, pack your bags and go
There is steam rising from the belly of the beast There is hell on earth there are demons beneath the sheets They see through the window cracks They slip through the floorboards The mortar is turning black The foundation starts to crack Honey, pack your bags and go
There is steam rising from the gravel on the road There is black coal filling up our homes It seeps through the cracks in the windowpane It slips through the floorboards and up through the drain
There is steam rising from the gravel on the road There is black coal filling up our homes It seeps through the cracks in the windowpane It slips through the floorboards and up through the drain

For my first pick I choose "Fix You" by Coldplay.
When I listened to this and put it in place of Harry Potter one view came to mind.
The Battle is over and won and there in the Great Hall are the lifeless bodies of many loved ones. Among them are the ones who lived, comforting one another trying to help.
I actually cried (all over again) thinking about the people - my (HP) friends - who died and their friends and family dealing with the loss of them... but yes ... I think this one fits. It's a touching song on friendship and love. Helping someone who is dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Fix You by Coldplay
When you try your best, but you don't succeed When you get what you want, but not what you need When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone but it goes to waste Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home, And ignite your bones, And I will try to fix you,
High up above or down below When you're too in love to let it go But if you never try you'll never know Just what you're worth
Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you
Tears stream down your face When you lose something you cannot replace Tears stream down on your face And I
Tears stream down your face I promise you I will learn from my mistakes Tears stream down on your face And I
Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you

@ SuperKoolPartyGal101, it's actually "Beatles" doll. Oh, and by the way, Across the Universe is just great ,isn't it! I love Jude, he was just the best thing, Jim Sturgess has a great voice whee
I guess i have to do another Beatles song huh? It would be very fitting!
"All you need is Love" fits very well with the Harry Potter books because of the underlying and vital message of the power of Love and how it affects everything.
The whole song fits, and I couldn't insult the beautiful lyrics of the Beatles by cutting bits of the song out. In all it's perfect completion. heart edit - ironically enough, the website did that for me xp
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love. There's nothing you can do that can't be done. Nothing you can sing that can't be sung. Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game It's easy. There's nothing you can make that can't be made. No one you can save that can't be saved. Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be YOU in time It's easy. All you need is love, all you need is love, All you need is love, love, love is all you need. Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love. All you need is love, all you need is love, All you need is love, love, love is all you need. There's nothing you can know that isn't known. Nothing you can see that isn't shown. Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be. It's easy. All you need is love, all you need is love, All you need is love, love, love is all you need. All you need is love (all together now) All you need is love (everybody) All you need is love, love, love is all you need.

Tric A Smile: Don't worry about the name, ( just call me Super!) These Days has quite an affect on myself. When I hear it I tear up sometimes!

Great topic and great choice of song posts, everyone!
watarrmelonz, your choice of "All you need is Love" is inspired!
It so fits the theme of the books (well, all you need is Love, and a wand that works, some good friends, courage, knowledge and a lot of luck perhaps).
I think the song works even better when you have the lyrics of one line complete. (You're missing a word)
I know the song by heart, but I wondered...and googled it. The first google lyric site I checked had the missing word version you posted, but the second one I checked had the version I have on my Beatles song CDs and the one I know by heart and alleged memory. Didn't have time to check more, I wanted to post and I'm running late to my class at the Apple store...and the temptations of Godiva chocolates!
watarrmelonz Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be in time" It's easy. The actual lyric is "Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be YOU in time"
Gives me goosebumps to think of all Harry went had to go through to learn his history and then found what he would have to do in the end to rid the world of Voldemort.

I should send a complaint to that website for not having the correct lyrics. I completely agree with you and commend you for editing my post to include the correct lyrics, it MAKES IT. mrgreen heart (five points to LadyHealingHands ^_^)

blaugh I think "Go the Distance" by Michael Bolton or Lucas Grabeel if you want the modern one.
I have often dreamed Of a far off place Where a hero's welcome Would be waiting for me Where the crowds will cheer When they see my face And a voice keeps saying This is where I'm meant to be
I'll be there someday I can go the distance I will find my way If I can be strong I know ev'ry mile Will be worth my while When I go the distance I'll be right where I belong
Down an unknown road To embrace my fate Though the road may wander It will lead me to you And a thousand years Would be worth the wait It may take a lifetime But somehow I'll see it through
And I won't look back I can go the distance And I'll stay on track No I won't accept defeat It's an uphill slope But I won't lose hope Till I go the distance And my journey is complete
But to look beyond the glory is the hardest part For a hero's strength is measured by his heart
Like a shooting star I can go the distance I will search the world I will face its harms I don't care how far I can go the distance TillI find my hero's welcome Waiting in your arms...
I will search the world I will face its harms TillI find my hero's welcome Waiting in your arms...
It's because they are struggling for their dreams. And they are facing their future with peril.

I think "Glittering Cloud" by Imogen Heap suits Remus Lupin's situation perfectly.
I'm not always like this It's something, I become A terrible weakness In my nature, in my blood Save me, oh save me, save me from myself Before I hurt somebody else again
Domino motion jump starts when we touch The blackout approaching Here it comes now, wish me luck It's all over, it's all over, it's all over in a flash I can't remember, What have I done now?
Go go faster wider More more get it down ya' Dance dance take me over Glittering Cloudx2
Oh, my head hurts Oh dear oh dear.
It's all over the papers On the TV, wagging tongues The artist's impression looks just like me only... better Don't blame me, don't maim me, I can't help what I am Oh, Lord knows I've tried to
Go go faster wider More more get it down ya' Dance dance take me over Glittering Cloud x2
The way I read it, it tells you of his situation as a werewolf and the pain and responsibility that follows. The name of the song, "Glittering Cloud" makes me think of the last cloud covering the full moon, and we all know what happens to him then. confused
