The morning had dawned a beautiful crisp blue, the first hint of winter finally departing. Today Musketeer had decided he would bring his pups to the pack, they needed the love and affection that Necrala was clearly unwilling to give them. It broke his heart to think of their small family so torn apart. He still held out the hope that someday she would love him, forgive him? Couldn't he do anything to make her understand?
With a soft sigh he headed towards the den muscles warming as he ran. He paused outside the entrance to listen if Necrala and the pups were awake. This would be a difficult task, he could give the pups his love but he would be taking them from their mother.
Moranna gave a soft yawn and blinked looking around, she was an early riser but stayed with her siblings for warmth. The den had gotten so cold some nights that frost clung to the hard packed earth. She sniffed curiously her head perking up a bit, she could smell her father. How strange for he normally didn't appear in the morning only late at night to leave food. She glanced at her mother sadly still remembering her harsh words. Would her parents treat each other cruelly? Would they fight?

--- Never a sound sleeper the corpse-furred female lay in her den, head up and ears erect towards the entrance of the cave. Today would be the day, she hoped. No, not hoped. Hope was a foolish thing for misguided wolves to pull them temporarily out of their own wallowed misery. She didn't believe in hope. She knew today would be the day.
--- Blank auds swept momentarily over the pile of sleeping puppies, catching sight of the youngest looking at her for a minute. Just then something swept over her. Regret? Misery? Pity? No, it was deeper than those. Because she was the pup in the corner staring sadly at her mother. But she couldn't stand to have them near her, it was tear her apart. They were his children now.
--- A familiar scent caught her nostrils and once more she looked to the entrance of the den, craning her neck to see the brief outline of Musketeer. Rising soundlessly to her feet she slipped out to meet him, the sooner it was over the better.

Moranna almost called out to her mother not wanting her to leave the den, fearing the incoming sensation of change. A great change was about to happen for her and her siblings and she wanted her mothers love to save her from it. Only a soft whimper escaped her though.
Musketeer dipped his muzzle and slunk a bit closer as Necrala came out of the den. He was glad to see her despite the cruel way she treated him, his traitorous tail swayed slightly in pleasure.
"I hope your warm enough in there..." He murmured softly trying to stay pleasant.

--- When he moved closer the female lifted her head with a soft scowl twitching on her lips, positioning herself so that her body was covering the den entrance. He wasn't going in. She'd call the pups out and Musketeer would leave just as he came.
--- "It's fine." Necrala replied, defensive from the get go. She eyed the wolf, noting his wagging tail. Did he find this humorous? The thought sickened her greatly.
At her sister's whimper, no matter how soft, Mastilan awoke. With a soft stretch and a cooed murmur to hopefully soothe her sister before she was fully awake, the pup blinked, eyes adjusting to the lighting in the den.
Then she stopped, noting something strange. There were voices outside the den, her mother's and....her father's? Massy nudged a paw in her brother's shoulder, hoping to get him up so they could listen.

With the nudging of a paw in his shoulder Mahli rolled his head to smell the scent of the one nudging him. However, as the nose became untucked from his leg another scent came into his nostrols. Eyes popping open. What?
Looking over towards Mastilan and Moranna he moved to his paws and stretched his neck to look towards the entrance. What was going on outside? Oh, that was less concerning at the sudden need to stretch out all of his muscles demanded the release of fresh oxygen running through them.

Musketeer frowned a bit his tail drooping as he sat infront of her. "I cannot say or do anything to please you can I? I wish I had known your heart was made of stone before falling in love with you, but perhaps I couldn't have stopped myself anyway..." He sighed softly. "I had hopped the ice that seemed to coat it would melt away."
Slowly he stood and gazed at her determined to make eye contact, to attempt not to fall into the beautiful dark void in her eyes. He did not want to be lost to that world, he wanted to love his children and try to forget that their mother had spurned and blamed him. All that he wanted he was not to have, the moment he looked into her eyes he felt his heart constrict. "Necrala..." He murmured her name gently as reverent as a prayer. "Please my Necrala...you could come to the den too...come to the pack, you would be safe and welcomed..." He slipped a bit closer hope lighting in his eyes for a moment. Always the foolish hope that she would agree with him, and tell him she loved him as much as he loved her.
Moranna looked at her siblings with concern in her eyes, what was happening outside the den above them seemed so very important. She wanted to follow her mother out, her ears flickered at the sound of her fathers voice. Slowly she moved to huddle closer to her brother and sister. Was their father going to take them away from the dark and cold now? Would he let their mother come too? Was he bad like Necrala had painted him to be, or was he the kind wolf she envisioned who ensured they had food.

--- Her lip raised in annoyance at his casualty. The same tune played again and again grows deaf to the ear. As were his pleas, which had lost any genuine nature they ever had and turned to pitiful lies and moans.
--- "If you had ever wished to please me you would've left my field the first time you blundered in, you ignorant fool." The female snapped, brushing his words off for lies.
--- "The only one you wish to 'please' is yourself, as you have obviously done. I will go no where with you." Necrala didn't even need to raise her voice, but an aggressive snap kept him from scooting any closer than he had.
The femme watched her brother awake, for a moment grey eyes resting on the den's entrance before flicking towards Moranna, moving back so that she could nuzzle into them.
Whatever was happening up there, the loud, noisy mess that it was, was strange. She wasn't sure she understood it, and she knew she didn't like it. The air smelt of change, something different.

White orbs transfixed on the entrance, he perked his ears up to the highest degree they would go. What was going on up there? His father's voice was audible, but the danger and demand in his mother's was also.
Being rocked by the nestling going on beside him, Mahli looked at his sisters. They too could sense it, there was change in the air. With a comforting nuzzle to Moranna he then nosed Mastilan. "Stop moving around, and we can listen into the confersation above," he muttered, not daring to step near the den and get thwaped for spying...at least not yet.

Musketeer's ears and tail dropped at her words, he frowned and sighed. "Verywell..." He muttered softly. He took a moment to recompose himself still recovering from having his hopes dashed so quickly. Slowly his ears came back up and he looked at her steadily.
"Despite it all you're their mother, I won't allow you to neglect them, even if you despise me." It was not a question for her, but a statement, a promise that he would ensure she was part of her children's lives somehow.
Moranna stayed still against her siblings her ears pricked trying to capture the words being spoken above them. She was confused and worried, the speech that came from the den entrance was indeed borne on the wings of change. It seemed that they would leave this place...but not with their mother. A soft whimper escaped her at that realization, she did not want to leave her mother despite how coldly she was treated by the female.
