[CHARACTER PAGE/ meet leslie sampson] Name: Leslie Sampson Nicknames/Stage Name: Les, Sam, Sammi/ Sammi Sabelli, the Escape Artist Meaning: For her stage name, Les figured alliteration would play well for her, and she liked the way Sammi Sabelli rolled off the tongue. Gender: Female Age: 17, but tells everyone she’s 20. Height: 5’7†Skin: Peaches and cream. Tan in the summer, paler in the winter. Eyes: Hazel green. Hair: A medium dusty blonde, with chunky lighter blonde highlights. She wears it in layers to her shoulders, and has a sweeping bang. She likes to experiment with temporary highlights in obnoxiously bright colors. Heritage: Italian, French, German, and a bunch of other nationalities.
Appearance: Les has a curvy build and a healthy body shape. She isn’t chubby, but she doesn’t have an athletic build. She has softly defined cheekbones in a rounded face, and a nose that is slightly larger than she’d like.
Sexual Preference: Men.
Usual Attire: Les loves fashion, and plays around with bright colors and fun pieces. Her wardrobe is amusingly eclectic as most of her clothing is from thrift shops. She loves mixing old-fashioned styles with newer pieces.
While performing: Wears a black, orange and teal leotard, or a swimsuit if underwater. Adjusts look to fit in with place of performance. If in an older era, she would cover up more, in a swimsuit look that was suitable at the time.
Personality: Leslie is usually bright and cheerful, but with a little attitude behind it. She has a quick wit, and is always ready to deliver a clever comeback. She is very outgoing and has no problems meeting new people. She LIVES for acting and the theatre. It is her niche, and she is most comfortable when she is in it. She doesn’t lose her temper often, and is more likely to get moody than angry. When she is faced with a difficult personal problem, she just can’t deal with it. She will push it away and avoid it for as long as she can, which of course, often makes things worse.
Strengths: Performing: Leslies doesn’t experience stage fright when performing. Even if something goes wrong, she manages to improvise well. Tech equipment: Thanks to a fabulous high school theatre program, Leslie knows her way around stage lighting and sound equipment. Unless a light is made out of some space-age technology or a total antique, she can get the thing set up and working. She is also adept at building sets and less complicated special effects, such as a trapdoor.
Flaws: Real drama: Les can handle anything the stage can dish out, but when it comes to real problems, she doesn’t know how to face them, and usually pushes them away. Organization:The girl completely lacks it. Her room eerily resembles the aftermath of a large tornado, yet she always manages to find what she is looking for. It just makes it difficult for anyone else who needs to enter the space. And, of course, never ask her to hold on to something for you. You will never see it again. Trust: Though she finds it easy to make friends, it is very difficult for Leslie to ask for help from someone she doesn’t know really well. She is more than happy to help someone else, but fears letting someone down or having someone get angry at her for not being able to accomplish the task herself. A visual/experience learner: You could vocally explain a task a hundred times, and Les would still have trouble with it. She needs to be walked through a difficult task before she is able to replicate it. A slight case of OCD: She obsesses a bit over things she can’t understand, like magic tricks. She will watch a trick over and over and will research it until she can figure out how it’s done.
History: Leslie was born to a rather typical family. Her father was a contractor and her mother a city official. She was second of two kids, being two years younger than her brother, Alex. She had a typical, happy childhood, taking part in gymnastics and dance. When she was eight, a community theatre held auditions for a children’s show, and she earned a small role. From then she was hooked, dragging her parents to rehearsals for the next two years. She loved her family, but of course, wished for a Hollywood family, full of fame and riches.
As she entered, her pre-teen years, however, she found herself wishing for her normal family back. When she was eleven, her parents went through a bitter divorce, from which the two children became separated, Alex going with her dad, while her mom insisted Leslie stay with her. Les took the divorce and the ‘loss’ of her brother and father very hard. She didn’t know how to deal with the sadness and anger, and her mother refused to talk about it. So Leslie bottled up her feelings and began spending more time at school and the theatre, the only places she could be happy.
By the time she hit high school, she almost felt like she was living a double life. At school she was happy, popular, outgoing, doing well in her studies and the theatre. At home however, she was remote and depressed, avoiding her mother, who had spiraled downward since the divorce, losing her job and bringing home less than satisfactory boyfriends. So Leslie just pushed her mom further away.
After she graduated, it took Leslie about a week to discover that she had no idea what her future held for her. Fate answered that however, with an announcement from her mom. She was engaged, and moving to Las Vegas. Les, fed up with her mother, especially after this cliché marriage, that she snapped, starting a huge fight with her mother. Les, doing the most spontaneous thing she had ever done, and moved out. Now, with nowhere to go, upset and alone, she dropped her belongings at a friend’s house and decided to take her mind off things. A trip to the circus seemed the perfect choice.
Likes: The theatre and anything to do with it! Comedy, tech work, especially designing sets and lights. Fashion, technology, magic tricks, Sherlock Holmes books, escape artists, history, science, FUN! Dislikes: Reading unless it’s for fun, math, people who think too highly of themselves, deceit, lies, insects, emo. Hobbies: Acting, improvisation, tinkering with mechanical equipment, dance, gymnastics, fashion. Talent: A flair for drama and a knack for performing. She is at ease on the stage, and can easily connect and draw in an audience. She can also dislocate her left shoulder rather easily and without too much pain, and is rather flexible. These two skills, combined with a love of trick machinery will make her into a rather entertaining escape artist.

[STAGES/ the act begins] Stage 1: Tech and repair work. Can set up and build sets and lighting for the various acts, and can assist wherever needed. Will further interest into escapology, begin working with smaller tricks, like trick handcuffs and ropes. Stage 2: Can do more tricks for escapes, such as straightjackets, chains, locked chests, etc. Adds a bit of humor and story into the tricks, and uses audience involvement. Stage 3: Adds more danger to the tricks, such as escaping a straight jacket while upside down, or while spinning, or submerged in water. *Will expand further with more research. Would love suggestions!! [INTRO] [CHARACTER PAGE] [STAGES][ART] [RESOURCES/LINKS]

Looks good! I like her history, strengths, and weaknesses. She seems like a well-rounded character.
Maybe try and go into a bit more detail on her performances. And since she doesn't cope with real drama well, can she handle otherworldly things? Like a transreality circus?

Nice concept! I was wondering though, you say she has lots of training in gymnastics and dance, but no where in her history does she develop a talent for escaping. Maybe except for mental escapes. Doing that kind of work takes years of practice, knowning how to move your joints without locking them up or dislocating something. Just an idea.
